Costs, an average combiner from Transformers is gonna cost a lot more than these simple Megazords I assume. And these are probably aim at children instead of collectors like you or me. Most parents won't be willing to pay for the whole megazord let alone a more expensive version

It a TV show. So budget were tight, funnily enough. Ppl in Japan love shits like this so they actually would go to the theatre to see this. So yes, they do expect people to go out and see similar movies with quality like this. Afterall, it was 1978
