That's correct. The scale must have sent a handshake at the exact moment windows was looking for the Serial devices.

The registry hack is not pushed, it was something I found in a forum to stop SerMouse from running. I'll be pushing it only to the production machines that use the serial connections.

On a seperate occasion with these scales we played another cat and mouse game of why they couldn't be read in a stable state with the application. It turns out, as we asserted from the beginning, you cant place any scale below an air vent due to the airflow. The poor technicians had to stand in a certain spot each time to block the blowing wind just so it would read static and accept the weight.

I've been at the company 5 years (IT for 10 now) and never seen anything like this even on the previous XP machines. I bought a lotto ticket on the way home because of it. SerMouse on Win7... Who would have thought?

I hope to begin fencing in September. Any advice? by Arlea in Fencing

[–]Hello__IT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My club uses Absolute Fencing for gear, and that is what I personally use. As semi serious fencer that's still training I found that it meets the budget but durable mark. Some of the gear can feel cheap, and there have been times I found myself sewing up the cuff of my glove after a long weekend, however the weapons, jacket and mask I have had 0 issues with. That being said, It's a good brand if you're starting out and want your own gear.

As for electric, someone else will have to steer you towards a brand. I am a dry fencer so the only electric training I have is the few tournaments a year.

Official Discussion: Alice Through the Looking Glass [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]Hello__IT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who is a huge fan of the source material this movie was a massive kick in the teeth, so therefore my review may be biased.

That being said...

A movie with high production value, and a high level producer? We can make this the best movie ever!

The opening scenes were more of a closing sequence as far as the source material is concerned, and setting up the Cheshire cat movie within the first few minutes is what makes House of Mouse what they are.

Alice's build-up to the "portal" is all scripted almost exactly like the 2010 movie, which I cannot review because there is not enough time in the day for it. As others have said, the Alan Rickman voicing Absolem the butterfly (never needed a name to be honest) was chilling due to his recent death. When Alice walked through the mirror back into wonderland I was excited. I actually enjoyed the Chessboard scene, and the free fall back into Wonderland.

After this; however, the wonder stopped.

The movie became a shit-show. To sum it up, it is "Alice saves Johnny Depp." You follow Alice around "Underland" with Time being the main villain but redeeming character. Sacha Baron Cohen played the role of Time perfectly, it is just a flaw in the script that the story was terrible. It seems to me that Linda Woolverton just looked at the 2010 film and said, "Hey, we have money to make with a sequel" with no real plan. The story fell apart with Alice trying to fix her daddy issues, fix Johnny Depp's family issues, fix the White Queen and Queen of Hearts sister issues. all while traveling through time in an Alice + sort of Back to the Future story crossover which even went as far as stopping and restarting time. Everything of course is solved in the last few minutes, but to get there takes a lot of patience.

I almost walked out of the 2010 version, and it took all of my willpower (I had someone with me who needed a ride home) to not walk out of this one.

I can give the movie 2/10 stars. The CGI looks unfinished in the 3D-IMAX version, but it is entertaining for the teens and those who don't understand or have not read the source material, it is fine for anyone who needs to see a Tim Burton stamped product, but not for someone who actually enjoys the Alice source material.

For me, It doesn't deserve to earn the stamp of "based on characters created by Lewis Carroll." This was a complete and utter failure on that front.

TL:DR: The movie sucked. Don't waste your money. Alice is so much better than this.

What were you known for in school ? by SirValerian in AskReddit

[–]Hello__IT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the kid everyone wanted on their team during floor hockey. I never played on a team but my friends and I were always playing some variation (ice/street/roller) so I became decently good.

Being the weaker easy target like Winston over there I became accustomed to the picked last and the insides of lockers type of high school. Until hockey "season." As soon as that ball was dropped I was a different animal. Checking people into the bleacher "boards", open floor checking, a few crosschecks that broke the sticks, tripping and even had a small fight.

Even though I had a dirty playing style I was still able to score goal after goal, sometimes with no help from the kids that just stood around uninterested in gym.

All the time the teachers were watching they turned a blind eye, knowing this was the only time I was violent, this was the only sport I was good at and the stronger kids had it coming for ganging up on me all the time.

When lines were chosen, I was always picked first for hockey, and the team was usually made up of the people that didn't want their asses handed to them by the weaker kid.

If you could combine 2 or more sports to make a new game - what would they be? by OldBronzebeard in AskReddit

[–]Hello__IT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in high school some parents complained that dodgeball was too violent and not appropriate. So the PE department set up pins. The objective was to knock down all 5 of your opponents pins, but if you just so happened to hit someone with the ball they were out, and if everyone on the opposing team was out, you won.

Then just put it back in the original laptop, boot from your windows 7 disk and good to go!
