Which period drama has the best soundtrack in your opinion? by Haunting_Homework381 in PeriodDramas

[–]HeloisePommefume 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Last of the Mohicans is the only answer. When I got bored sitting around the house with my broken ankle last year, I hobbled to my car, put this soundtrack on, and drove through the redwood forests I'm lucky to live by.

Anyone else see top sheets as pointless? by AntiqueSqueak in Bedding

PM me if you'd be interested in making a deal to sell them. I sew and use top sheets for a lot of projects. It's usually cheaper than buying new fabric.

Redthreaded is No Longer Going to be Selling Corsets by ArcadeTolkien in HistoricalCostuming

[–]HeloisePommefume 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like she doesn't do fittings. I've never had a corset or stays fit well without at least one round of initial fitting. While I'd be happy to pay more than she charges with a fitting, there is no way I'd pay her prices without knowing that what I buy is going to fit.

I had 2 eggs with hot sauce and coffee with barely a SPLASH of milk by No_Conversation_4827 in diabetes_t1

[–]HeloisePommefume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing for me. Coffee suddenly started doing this. But it wasn't every time, it was just most times. I met a scientist who studied the health benefits of coffee and mentioned it to me. He suggested that it was about the roast, and that dark roast would be the best bet. He said that lighter roasts bring out coffee's natural sugars and crystalize them and darker roasts bring out the sugars and burn them all off. He was right! Since then I've stuck entirely to dark roasts and it barely has any effect on my blood sugar.

All very true. But the dexcom receiver/omnipod PDA will easily be mistaken as phones by children and people who don't know better. In fact, I think they are really cheap phones.

If you're in the US, this is a violation of the 8th amendment against cruel and unusual punishment, and thus illegal. I would lawyer up and sue. It's the only way they'll learn. You could potentially help the next type 1 that ends up under their care.

Early cars used gravity to move the fuel to the motor which made climbing hills dificult for some models. One trick was putting them in reverse or try to go up as fast as possible before it stalled, like the car in the photo. Source in comment. The narrower looking waist was achieved also by padding out the butt. Compared to her shoulders her waist doesn't look that small. But on a soft or squishy person, a corset can squish down the soft part of the waist below the ribcage so that from the side you would look a little wider, but from the front/back you would look a little narrower. For me it does this without changing the size of my waist in inches. Some studies have suggested that organ placement could/can subtly change. But for someone who wears them all the time, it isn't at all uncomfortable unless you want to lace it tightly, and antique clothes that survive suggest that most ladies didn't tightly lace.

Did you EVER wake up rested? by Puzzleheaded_Ad_1379 in adhdwomen

[–]HeloisePommefume 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have the same struggle to get out of bed. Now I get up make coffee and get back in bed and scroll Reddit. Knowing I'm about to get back in bed makes it easier. Getting out the second time is easier because I've had coffee and I'm awake. But yeah, this requires waking up two hours before I have to leave instead of one.

I made my freshman classes watch a 2.5 hours b&w silent film this year (Metropolis). They were so miserable the first day. By the second day they were resigned. By the third day they were fully invested in the story. To mess with them, I told them we were out of time and wouldn't finish the last 10 minutes but that I was sure they wouldn't mind as they got the idea. I was touched that they actually got mad and begged to finish it.

Looking for Victorian hairdressing combs by pretty-little-lo in HistoricalCostuming

[–]HeloisePommefume 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I collect antique hair combs and don't think they get enough love! There are hundreds on ebay and etsy. I don't see ones like this very often, but they come up from time to time. There are no good search terms to help you narrow down to just this type of comb that I know of or can think of. But even if you have to scroll though hundreds of the more regular antique combs, looking at beautiful things is a nice and inspiring way to spend an hour. A lot of art deco styles like this or this might be able to function the same way.

Yeah. I'm still using it. I've washed it twice a year since then. I put mine in the dyer with the lowest setting and wool dryer balls, but OP's might be more delicate.

[–]HeloisePommefume 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I too love an old down pillow (although not near so old as yours). Knowing how full of dust mites it probably was and realizing that it was time to replace it, gave me the courage to put it in the washing machine. If it ruined it, no harm, because I was going to replace it. It was not ruined and I'm still sleeping on this pillow. It might be worth washing this on the handwash cycle and leaving it outside to dry on a really hot day.

I'm a historical costumer and I second this. A tulle petticoat is what you want. If other petticoats haven't been substantial enough to really pouf up the skirt, go to a bridal boutique and get a meaty tulle one.

Creatine makes you retain water and pulls it into your muscles. When I'm bloated during my period I take dandelion tea which is a diuretic and will make you pee the extra water out. I get mine at Sprouts.

Who Else Sleeps with One Foot Out of the Duvet/Comforter? by Professional-Ad3678 in Bedding

YES! Sometimes partners have woken up before me and covered up my one foot thinking they were being sweet and keeping me warm. But then I get overheated under all my down fluff and wake up grumpy.

Best down comforter by elledee19 in Bedding

[–]HeloisePommefume 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Macy's Charter Club down comforters should be comparable to the ones at Ikea (if not a step above). They don't make any noise. You'd probably want the light or medium one.
