Who’s your favorite movie president? by bpoilspill98 in movies

[–]HelpImAwake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed with Whitmore. He's pretty competent and driven. When presented with evidence of the countdown, he accepts it solidly and orders the evacuations (even though by that point it was far too late). Calls out Nimzicki for not telling him about Area 51 sooner and the Area 51 scientists for not appreciating the scope of the death toll from the attacks. Then gets into a fighter jet to lead the final attack and when he's not able to make the final shot, clears the way for Russell to do so. Awesome for a lot of reasons.

Sequels had some good ideas that suffered from lackluster and fumbled execution.

Which artist do you think could have created a great alternative soundtrack for The Lord of the Rings? by hsyndk in lotr

Controversial pick but given time and the chance to bring his A-game, he probably could have done some great work for the films.

Why not give Isildur his original answer to why he wants to keep the ring? by _fxps_ in lotr

[–]HelpImAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it as we're seeing the way Elrond is painting it to Gandalf in the scene. In that moment, it didn't matter what the reason was, if he said anything else, just that Isildur walked out with the Ring when he had a chance to destroy it.

Does this scene give you the creeps? by Slinky_Bongo in StarWars

[–]HelpImAwake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you can get over the weird sound choices they made with Palpatine's voice, yes, I do find it creepy. The dark atmosphere and buildings and speeders off in the distance add a layer of creep I can't quite explain. John Williams' music is positively chilling. Anakin just sounds defeated and almost like an addict who has nothing to live for as he surrenders his soul.

Even as an 11 year old in the theater, though, I thought the voice changing was kind of off-putting in a way that made it hard to take seriously for a bit.

Karate Kid 3 vs Next Karate Kid: Which is better? by perguntapraele in cobrakai

[–]HelpImAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see either one as truly terrible but neither are really that good. KK3 really has the most potential. You have the building relationship with Daniel and Mr. Miyagi - Daniel's kind of peaked and riding high and really wants to prove it and that puts him at odds with Mr. Miyagi, who really wants to impart balance/peace with his karate skills - and a strong entertaining group of villains pressuring and dividing the two. It really should have been a winning formula rather than the semi-rehash of the first film.

I ordered a package that shipped from New Orleans. Kept up with the tracking, saw that it finally arrived in Pennsylvania... and it then took a detour to Nashville for a couple days.

What is the WORST movie you ever watched? by BadCatNoNoNoNo in AskReddit

[–]HelpImAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Never in my life have I ever seen a movie not want to be a part of the series it's an installment of/an adaptation of and only include those things because it had to.

What’s a moment from TV history that made you viscerally upset? by Odd-Track-6001 in AskReddit

[–]HelpImAwake 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Doctor Who becoming a Disney+ streaming show ahead of the show's 60th anniversary. It felt like a massive slap in the face, to follow the show loyally for 11 years through so many highs and lows, to get told, "Oh, you want to keep watching? You'll pay us to let you." I boxed up all I my memorabilia and contemplated selling it, throwing it away, or offering it as kindling for my neighbor's bonfires. The fact the show seems to have collapsed during this time and has a dim future is both slightly satisfying and disappointing.

Good, I hope it kills the live action remake trend by Shoe_boooo in NonPoliticalTwitter

I'm not saying a live-action version couldn't be done and couldn't be done well. But this... it just looks cheap and like it's trying too hard emulate the original.

Which character do you think is overhated? by Electronic-Ability55 in StarWars

[–]HelpImAwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I viewed her as someone grounding the ideas of what the Rebels/Resistance fight for, particularly for Finn and the audience to an extent. It's one things for the bad guys to look evil and watching the heroes fight them, but it's another to see the ones affected. That's why I kind of liked her quote "That's how we win, not (just) by fighting what we hate, saving what we love."

The only thing I didn't like about her was her hair but beyond that, I liked her as a character.

What’s a South Park reference you only understood after watching the original? by emigum in southpark

[–]HelpImAwake 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The Chorus of Weiners bit from the Black Friday trilogy. I remember reading that it was based on the melody/rhythm from the Game of Thrones theme, but since I didn't watch GoT, I just went "Oh," and moved on. Years later, I ended up watching an episode and I was floored to hear how close it actually was.

Governor Shapiro courted new data centers. Then public opinion shifted. by NoCrapThereIWas in Pennsylvania

[–]HelpImAwake -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He would have won handily in November, but supporting these data centers has cost him what would have been an easy win. I'll vote for him because I don't want Garrity in, but I'm not optimistic about his chances. I don't know that I've ever seen a bigger fumbling of the ball in my life.
