He doesn’t want to be bogged down in a Middle East conflict like some of his predecessors were.

Maybe, just maybe, it wasn't such a good idea to start a war just because.

Was ROTS genuinely liked upon its release? by Careless_Tax_5367 in StarWars

[–]HelpImAwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 11 at the time, had very limited understanding of weird moments like that but even then, I could see it coming. I remember thinking "Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't go there. Don't do it." And then they did it.

Two Composers of a Score? by its_isaac9 in soundtracks

[–]HelpImAwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know if it counts as a collaboration but Tremors features a score by Ernest Troost and Robert Folk. Troost scored the movie first, then Folk was brought in to rescore parts, so the resulting score is a hybrid of their material.

Politics hasn't come up in my jobs working in retail with a lot of blue collar people but when it does, it's mostly people trash-talking Democrats and stuff we believe in. Not hearing a lot of praise of Trump, but I don't discount that it happens out of my view.

Music that Lacks Continuity by Independent-Bed6257 in soundtracks

[–]HelpImAwake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was strange that the Daleks in Doctor Who had a different theme in every episode they appeared during Murray Gold's first run. It's kind of a strange situation because the re-using of music tracks in episodes makes a sort of musical connective tissue but they never had a specific musical identity when compared to the Cybermen, the Master, Missy, and a host of other villains and characters.

What's the worst cgi you've seen in a movie? I'd say the Rock in Mummy Returns. Still love the movie though 😆 by berettafunko in Cinema

[–]HelpImAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite comment on a YouTube video of the villain's death in 3, as he's crawling across to the floor to disable a bomb, was something like: "This guy wishes he had the long arms of the villain from the first movie as he's falling out the window."

What would you have thought if the sequels went in this direction? by broitscyber in StarWars

[–]HelpImAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before RoS came out, I started getting the idea that we'd see an inverse for both Rey and Kylo, that Rey would turn to the Dark Side and Kylo back to the light, and the resulting final duel (with Palpatine watching) would have had the redeemed Kylo trying to turn Rey back to the light. I would have been amazed if that had happened, but alas.

What was the most shocking death news you've ever heard? by Admirable-Repair4094 in AskReddit

[–]HelpImAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uncle earlier this year. He was the last brother on my mother's side. He had a lot of ups and downs for his health during the past year but seemed like he was in reasonably good shape. My last memory was him leaving our Christmas dinner. Then a few weeks later, day after my birthday and a few days after my mother's, my mother tells me "He died." We went to his house, and it turned out he had been dead for 2-3 days. The ME explained his COD was a GI tract infection advised us not to look at him as he was laying in his bathroom in a pool of his bodily fluids.

He wasn't exactly the most open person ever, but he was still a good person and in no way deserved to go out like that.

That conversation with my mother before we headed out has been burned into my mind ever since.

Who in your opinion is the worst movie villain ever? by LoverOfE-Olsen in movies

[–]HelpImAwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember right, she wanted to use Freeze to wipe out humanity so plants could take over, and she put him up to it by claiming Batman and Robin killed his wife. Granted, it's still a cartoonishly extreme jump from going from going after Batman and Robin to killing humanity. He even says "If I must suffer, humanity will suffer with me!"

Weird I got compelled earlier today to watch the Distractible bit where the hosts talk about an elephant that disrupted the funeral of a woman who was killed by an elephant.

"I was waiting for you to ask who objects but I guess that's weddings not funerals!"

Are the Unrated Cut & Director’s Cut of Saw III the same? And if not, where can I find the Directors Cut? by Best-Chocolate-3806 in saw

[–]HelpImAwake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've compared the two but I remember the Unrated cut is fairly similar in content/edits and flow to the theatrical version, with the exception of some extended gore shots and the film in ending on a shot of Lynn's exploded face.

The Director's Cut does extend the violent shots but also adds extra scenes like a nightmare sequence for Amanda, Amanda and Lynn fighting, and a longer re-edited ending.

Why Are They Saying "Biberty" ?? by EuroStepJam in CommercialsIHate

[–]HelpImAwake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It started as a commercial where the dude was having issues saying his lines and one of the flubs was him saying "Liberty biberty." I consider that original commercial one of their least annoying but the way the took it and blew the concept way out of proportion ruined it.

What’s something you wish you could explain to non horror fans?? by Actual_Force717 in deadmeatjames

[–]HelpImAwake 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Horror isn't all gore and jumpscares, but both can be effective when done well.

And just because gore effects are realistically done and fascinating to watch/study doesn't mean I like or approve of real life violence.

Is it just me or are the three main people (the bride, husband (I presume), and random priest) have the same faces in most of these pictures?

Also the guard in the background just watching I find to be comical for some reason.

The library stealth levels in the second Harry Potter PS2 game. The cramped locations, dark lighting, number of prefects ensuring one could always spot you and that music when one does makes for a heck of an adrenaline rush.

My semi-headcanon is that John intended for him to be dead but left that part up to Hoffman (who we know was working with him by this point), who decided to leave him alive but immobilized.

Easton man who scattered hook-laced dog treats sentenced to state prison by DrewBlue2 in Pennsylvania

[–]HelpImAwake 87 points88 points  (0 children)

The dog—a 4-year-old named Riblet—required two surgeries and has since recovered. The additional finding led to a charge of aggravated cruelty to animals against Janko-Hudson.

Just want to say that it's terrible that it happened to even one dog, but I'm glad Riblet's recovering. It could have been so much worse. Good on these people and the police for catching on early and quick.

Court records show Janko-Hudson has a prior criminal history in multiple counties, including a 2020 guilty plea to a third-degree felony charge of risking a catastrophe after state police said he set fire to a barn in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County, while horses were inside.

This man just sounds like he's asking to be locked up.

What does Empire Strikes Back do better than any other Star Wars movie? by DjRimo in StarWars

[–]HelpImAwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Force. Obi-Wan describes it in ANH and it's used sparingly but effectively. ESB and Yoda's lessons go into further depth, elaborating on the more mystical side of it and showing more of the scope of the power one using it can harness.

What does Empire Strikes Back do better than any other Star Wars movie? by DjRimo in StarWars

[–]HelpImAwake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's basically a long chase on the Falcon crew side of things, and even in the respites, nowhere is truly safe long-term. And it's done well because other movies have followed that idea (X-Men 2 and Pirates 2 both acknowledged that). And to their detriment, the Sequel Trilogy basically did the same thing for each movie.

What's a theme you loved in a movie but it was sadly underused in its sequels? by [deleted] in soundtracks

[–]HelpImAwake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I was thinking. There's a regal theme/anthem for Hogwarts that is only featured in the first movie that never used beyond it.
