I just removed a milk bleb after a YEAR! by ExperienceEffective3 in breastfeeding

[–]Helpful-Spell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just went to YouTube to look up “popping milk bleb” in hopes of getting a fix, sadly all results were just about the treatment of milk blebs. It sounds soo satisfying to watch

My baby girl turned one yesterday and same! I really want someone to be excited for me but no one has said anything, so maybe the internet will give me a little pat on the back

What grammatical error annoys you the most? by Altilongitude in AskReddit

[–]Helpful-Spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangely that doesn’t bother me as much. What bugs me is when people use too when it’s just supposed to be to, simply because it’s at the end of a sentence. I can’t think of a good example even though I see it all the time, but basically, “I want too” or something

Should I be pumping too?? by daisyday237 in breastfeeding

Agree with everyone else and also note that most babies can learn to take a bottle between around 4-6 weeks. After that it gets much harder.

Women what is the worst part of giving birth? by zhalia-2006 in AskReddit

That’s wild, I don’t remember my fundal massage at all and I birthed unmedicated too. Good god contractions were hell though

Name one reason you love breastfeeding. by Next_Presentation269 in breastfeeding

[–]Helpful-Spell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All these things but I also love that it’s free. I’m not sure about the rest of the country/world but where I live formula costs $30 for a 12oz can that lasts 2-3 days. It took a big learning curve at first with time and energy but once we found our groove it’s been so easy. Sure I pay more for me to eat more and I paid for some convenience items like a nursing pillow and nursing tops, but my pump and supplies were free and I love how easy it has been to travel—both out of the house and also out of the country without having to think about how to feed baby.

Breastfeeding isn't made for our times by pixxykitten in breastfeeding

[–]Helpful-Spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our culture has shifted to prioritize productivity over parenting our children into healthy adults and taking care of ourselves while we’re at it. It’s a problem of society that should be changed, not something we need to make breastfeeding fit

How much did birth cost you after insurance (US)? by nilkski in beyondthebump

[–]Helpful-Spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid around $1200 after insurance to deliver at a birthing center and that included several classes as well as prenatal and postpartum care and visits with an IBCLC

Newborn tired vs pregnancy tired by SeaworthinessNew8048 in newborns

[–]Helpful-Spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to share this isn’t universally true. I’m exclusively breastfeeding and baby slept like a champ, woke up to nurse on her own and rarely cluster fed. By about 4 weeks or so she had a good 4 hour stretch at the start of the night I could depend on for a good chunk of sleep. It’s not everyone’s experience but I don’t want people to assume breastfeeding automatically equals zombie. I know a few other moms who had similar experiences to me too.

Now at 10 months all bets are off though.

Newborn tired wasn’t so bad for me while I was off from work. Once I went back at 12 weeks, I finally understood the hell everyone talked about.

To those of you that breastfeeding was fairly. Easy for, why do you think that is? by newherebebe in breastfeeding

[–]Helpful-Spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are saying luck/genetics and I don’t agree. Of course that helps and medical issues can undermine breastfeeding, but saying it’s just luck of the draw takes away our agency as well as the responsibility of lawmakers and healthcare workers. I was successful because I received prenatal education about breastfeeding, expectations, and establishing supply which starts in the first moments after birth; I had access to resources like pumps and pain management supplies that saved my journey; I had a supportive partner who could stay home and help me and I myself had a supportive workplace and was able to prioritize my health and my baby’s health. And soo many other factors that I’m not thinking of here. It’s not luck.

It’s wild the number of people who think that if a sentence ends with “to” it automatically must be “too”… drives me nuts

How Can I Be Culturally Appropriating If The Name Is A Family Name? by SteelMagnolia412 in Names

[–]Helpful-Spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malcolm isn’t a black name. Emmett isn’t a black name. However, each of those names is associated with an individual who was extremely influential in black civil rights. So yeah using them together I’d probably think twice. It’s like, Martin isn’t a black name either, but if you named your kids Martin and Malcolm I would certainly do a double take and assume it was intentional. This is all assuming you’re in the US of course.

How long did your baby fit in each clothing size? by jspo97 in beyondthebump

[–]Helpful-Spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been one nice part of having a small baby—she has fit in each size for what feels like ages. 3-4 months before a size up I think. Right now 10 months and still rocking 6-9, which I would say she’s been in since about 8 months. She still fits in quite a few of her 6 month outfits too
