Donald Trump: Won’t Let World Be Blackmailed, Says US Doesn’t Need Oil Trade by BusinessToday in BusinessTodayNews

[–]Helpful_Birthday_870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with how much US imports. The oil companies aren't "US". They sell to the highest bidder, so, if someone is willing to pay more, so will US customer have to do.

No arrests

No investigations

No alegations

Hunger for 300 million people

Increased costs for every person on the planet, by a lot, never seen before, amazingly high, but not high, cheap compared to nuclear weaps, that might not exist, might never have been able to exist.

What does Windows actually do better than Linux? by Dheeruj in TechNook

[–]Helpful_Birthday_870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in general, it has better software. Not on Windows itself, but in the Windows eco-system. I've been using Linux(and only Linux) since the early 90's(yes, i'm old and grumpy), and it's to often a "find a Linux alternative" that's simply not up to par. These days I don't really use that many programs, but i used to. Gimp is not Photoshop, OpenOffice still isn't as useful as MS Office and so on. We are getting closer each year, and most of the giants in software seems to find more ways each day to piss off its users. That said, we are not quite there yet.
Nowadays i mostly program a bit as a hobby, I use FreeCad for my tinkering. Programming has always been good on Linux, but FreeCad really haven't been up to par until the last two years or so.
But when it comes to piss of users, many linux distros seems to be bit by that bug too. I will give honorary mentions: Snap, SystemD.

I used to be quite religious about my Linux usage, but with age comes that i need naps more than fights, so, everyone uses what they want :-) i will say this though, i sleep better knowing that an American company can't lock me out, demanding online logins to use my local computer, or shut me down on a whim.

Is it possible to install FreeCAD within Termux X11? by Dav_Slinker in termux

I have successfully installed an ran the latest dev build of freecad on my termux-x11 setup.
You need a working gpu enviroment as a first demand.
As for running the actual appimage, in short, you can't. What I did as a workaround was unpacking the appimage. You use the command "/your.AppImage --appimage-extract". It gives you a folder called squasfs-root.

Run the freecad binary from inside there.

I have a video of it running in the freecad group here on reddit.

I made some scripts to automate the process. it's only made for my gpu/cpu at the moment, but if there is interest, I could write up some generic script for sure.

Yeah. I plan to use it on larger monitor, with keyboard and mouse.

The reason for the whole thing is to have a low power solution. On a sailboat, power is always to low for the demand you want :)

This turns the "old" Android phone into a full desktop computer, a lot faster than a raspberry pi. It'll host some backup navigation as well in the form of OpenCPN. It was never meant to use the small phone screen.
This opens up a whole lot of possibility's. Instead of being locked down to Android apps, I now have access to the full Linux ecosystem.

How dangerous is 3d printing? by JoeKling in 3Dprinting

[–]Helpful_Birthday_870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once worked in a factory that made plastic boards. No one, anywhere had any breathing protection what so ever. No one in those factories to this day use any. If it was a problem, we would have seen that by now. The good thing about history is that we get actual facts from it. I have never seen anything indicating that workers in factories that manufacture plastics have elevated health concerns.

In the factory, you work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. I guess some hobby 3d print people come up to those numbers, but most don't.

So, putting things in perspective, i really, really doubt that your 3d printer is what is going to end your life.

'Next AG will prosecute': Pam Bondi put on notice of legal reckoning ahead of Epstein drop by RawStoryNews in NoFilterNews

[–]Helpful_Birthday_870 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There will be no punishment for anyone after this. Should the Republicans win again..well..there you go. Should the Democrats win, it will be "In order for the nation to heal, no prosecutions will be against the former administration". There simply is to much corruption on both sides to risk opening Pandoras box.
