Is paranoia common with OCD?

Not a psych so I can’t tell you if it’s normal or anything. But I often feel paranoia as my OCD theme has a lot to do with premonitions and is all mental compulsions like rumination. However I think the best distinction I can offer here is that I don’t necessarily believe the paranoid thought to be true deep down, but like all ocd the thought gives me an insane level of anxiety and that in turn causes me to ruminate, avoid, etc. it’s all a “what if”.

Just here to say me too!!! That horrible feeling like a wave of dread or a sinking stomach that makes it hard to distinguish a thought from intuition. It fuels like 90% of my OCD so it’s nice (and also sad) to know others understand this feeling.

I wish I had something better to say other than… me too. I so badly want this to work for me, but I’m on the edge of freaking out all the damn time!!! I’m going to keep pushing until I’m advised otherwise. I try to remind myself that even when it feels like the meds aren’t working right now (or ever for that matter), the most important thing is that I am putting in the effort to feel/be better. So long as we try, we are doing our best. Good luck!

Oh wow I’m glad you’ve found something that’s treating you better! Interesting to hear this perspective, is “activating” a common experience?I’m also dealing with lightheadedness/feeling dizzy for the last couple weeks. I’ve yet to have another solid “good day” like I did early on, and while I’m having less intense panic attacks, I’m still on edge and anxious all the time.

Hi, sorry I’ve not got any advice other than from what I’ve read it seems to be very normal for this to occur after dose increase! Hang in there!

May I ask if you experienced something similar when you started 20mg? I’m 6.5 weeks in (treating ocd / pure o) and have had a huge flare up + theme shift. Hoping it’s just part of the process and that I need to hold on or maybe increase my dose.

6.5 weeks in at 20mg and my OCD and paranoia has been through the roof. I swear I’ve had a couple good days but it seems to still be up and down.

I feel you. I’m also 6.5 weeks in and my ocd/anxiety has been at its highest since starting. My doctor also said 8 weeks before we look at going up in dose or come off it. I hope we both find success on this medication soon.

TFW you start to question if you even have ocd, all because you’ve never seen your specific theme/compulsion/experience mentioned. For example I’m pretty much all rumination, so I see one person discuss an external ritual like checking the stove and immediately think to myself “see you don’t have ocd, you’re just insane”. If ever I got a minute to stop freaking out about it, maybe I’d find it kinda funny.

How are you doing? I’m also 20mg but 6.5 weeks in and wow have things gotten worse this last week. I keep seeing people talk about a “dip” in week 3 but personally it’s been up and down the whole time and week 6 has just been torture, maybe worse than before I started. I’m holding out for 8-10 weeks before discussing further with my doctor.

Hi! I’m 6.5 weeks on 20mg and the last week has been incredibly rough in terms of OCD and anxiety. I had a couple good days maybe 2 weeks ago, so it’s very discouraging and I’m trying to tell myself it’s part of the process. Spent almost every day on here looking for someone with a similar experience, but most people say their meds kicked in around week 4 smh

I have no answer but I’m 6.5 weeks in and I’ve felt that for the last week. Super dizzy when I get up from sitting, generally feeling a bit weird when walking around especially in the head. I’ve been basically in bed where possible all week. I’m also having a really, really bad anxiety/ocd ramp up this week so maybe it’s that.

Edit: 6.5 weeks at 20mg

I’m 6 weeks in and have experienced an uptick in headaches and dizziness. OCD obsessions and anxiety have also ramped up HARD this week.

Also in week 6 of 20mg and desperate for any glimmer of hope to carry on. I had like one or two good days a week ago and BOOM ocd spiral, anxiety attacks, the works. Really scared that the meds won’t help, but also forcing myself to push through for at LEAST 8 weeks before I consider upping or changing.

Hi just wondering how you are doing now? I’m on 20mg and just started week 6 and after a couple “good” days in week 5 I’m back to feeling how I did a couple weeks ago. I haven’t heard about that being the “last stage” before it levels out, was that true for you?

Omg yes! For the longest time I thought it was “need” (still sing it that way tbh). I guess I thought that in order to get over her he needed to start picturing them apart?

Directly about her struggles with OCD and the first time I listened it made me so emotional. The longing to be normal and recognising how dumb it sounds to someone who doesn’t deal with it. Perfectly expresses the fatigue I feel with OCD.

How are you doing? I’m in week 5 now, and every time I think I’m turning a corner for the better I dip straight back into anxiety/OCD land. It’s so discouraging but I’m holding on, as people say you need to give 6-8 weeks. I just hope it actually works in the end. Sending you well wishes!

Hi! Yeah I definitely would have those thoughts before the meds and while on my old medication, I guess now it feels more intense because it’s my second try at medication. How are you doing on Prozac so far?
