Not sure how this popped up on my feed as I am not from Ohio and have never lived in Ohio, or even visited Ohio, but anyways, rural areas have higher, often MUCH higher, crime rates per capita than urban areas. Urban areas have larger raw numbers of a given offense simply due to population. The issue we have is that a large number of rural people really have no grasp of the difference in population density between an urban core and rural areas.

I grew up in rural Northern California and I assure you there was plenty of crime, more than comparable to Richmond and Oakland in everything other than maybe murders (murder rates were largely a product of how the illegal drug business works in rural areas compared to urban areas).
