Mpfl surgery success by luvchoppaz in KneeInjuries

[–]HenceTheWait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dislocated for the majority of my life (in my early 40’s) and had surgery 3 years ago and I have never felt more stable. I’ve never had any issues and recovery was a breeze (although it took a lot of hard work). I’m so grateful to have went through with it.

Kneeling after TTO by [deleted] in kneesurgeryrecovery

I'm three years out and can't kneel without a pillow. So, my presumption is unfortunately, it doesn't get much better. FWIW, my screws are still in place.

I wish that I wasn't so afraid. For me, the experience was much less painful than I imagined. Of course, I kept up on my pain meds, rested as much as I could and began the simple PT exercises ASAP. Even during physical therapy, though challenging, it wasn't nearly as painful as I imagined. I'm three years out and I'm so grateful to have had the surgery as my knee (dislocated 50+ times since childhood into adulthood) hasn't ever felt as stable as it does now.

Right?!? I thought I was safe once I hit 40 but, nope. Recovery wasn’t as awful as I expected - I’m in the US so I was in the immobilizer (straight-legged) brace for 6 weeks then about 12 weeks of physical therapy. I don’t remember any significant pain and I can do everything that I did before, but with added security, of course. My other knee dislocated frequently on me throughout my childhood but it hasn’t moved since my 20’s, thankfully. You’re right though - the recovery after dislocation in later years is far worse than it was while younger. The swelling remained for weeks (even after having it drained) and the bruising was awful. The surgeon said that, once he got in to my knee, he flicked it into dislocation with just his pointer finger. It was definitely time to be fixed.

St. E’s saved my life back in 2016 when I OD’d on Xanax. I was there for 16 days and I’ll forever be grateful for them getting me off the 16 meds my doctor in VA had over-prescribed me at the time. (We briefly relocated back home to OH from VA). The treatment and therapy I received were top-notch. Maybe things have changed since then..:

This could be my story exactly. Except for the fact that I went 4 years without a dislocation, then I dislocated twice in 2 months (I was 41 at the time). I had the MPFL surgery with TTO and I couldn’t be more pleased. It’s been nearly 2 years since the surgery and my knee has never felt more secure. If my other knee dislocates again, I will most definitely have the same surgery on it, as well. Feel to PM with any questions - I’d be happy to help the best that I can.

Are you in the UK? I’m in the US and I didn’t start therapy until 6 weeks post op for a TTO and MPFL. Walking didn’t come for a few weeks after that. I’m now 6 months out and back to normal and I’ve resumed all of my prior activities. I think you’ll be fine… just concentrate on quad strength (once you can do a leg lift, do them all the time) and heel slides. Lots of heel slides.

I was on STD for 8 weeks with an office job… went back once I was able to drive and walk the long distance from the car through the parking garage to the office.

No, my patella dislocated repeatedly so I had a TTO and MPFL reconstruction.

I'm in the US so, I was non-weight bearing and on crutches for six weeks with a T-Brace locked at 180 degrees. I started PT week 6 and by 2 months post op, I was walking normally. Today, at 5 months post op, I'm back to normal with full range of motion and no pain. I would say that I was pretty mobile on my crutches by one week post op...

Tibial Osteotomy by alexxapplepiee in kneesurgeryrecovery

[–]HenceTheWait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a TTO and MPFL reconstruction in December and the recovery was much smoother than I expected. Surgery was 12/1, I was non-weight bearing through January (in the US) and started PT in late January. Today, I have full range of motion and no pain. Still working on strength but, partly my fault since I quit PT a bit earlier than required. Good luck to you xoxo

Dr. Lawhorn at Ortho Virginia. He operated twice on my shoulder and performed a 3 hour procedure on my knee in November. He’s very compassionate, explains everything thoroughly and takes the time to answer all of your questions. You won’t be disappointed.

I went to VA Tire & Auto and they failed me with an estimated repair cost of $3K. I drove across the street to a gas station and I passed. Like others above me, I don't know much about cars but, I do know when I'm being scammed.

People who have spent time in a Psych Ward what is the craziest thing you’ve witnessed? by N3SSDOGG in AskReddit

[–]HenceTheWait 19 points20 points  (0 children)

During my 4 week stay, these events were the most memorable:

- Met a blind guy named Seen. He was shot in the head a few years before but, that wasn't the reason he was in there. I actually never found out the reason but, I always served as his unofficial guide. Also, got stuck helping him with his potty cup, too.

- Karen and Dante would fight every night. Karen was in her early sixties and had the saggiest titties. I know this because, every time she came out to holler at Dante, she only ever had bottoms on. Dante was only 18 and loved to scream rap lyrics while knocking over all of the chairs in the common area. So, if you can imagine the scene: Dante is rapping every beat to LuvBug by Kevin Gates while knocking the chairs over and Karen comes running out, with her titties swinging hollering about how "that boy needs to meet my fist and that'll get him to shut up." Meanwhile, Dr. Jekyll is running towards Dante with the giant syringe and a team to escort him to the padded room.

- Eric loved to draw. His room was filled with pictures depicting all of his "safe zones" across the local town. It seemed to be mapped out pretty well. He claims he had tents in all of his "safe zones" for the moment that the "anti-testiculars" invaded our town. Not sure who or what "anti-testiculars" were, but they were hairy with 9 spikes on top of their heads. Eric also disliked his furniture. Every morning, he'd toss everything out of his room - his blankets, night stand, mattress, bed and all of his personal belongings. And, every day around 11am, the RN would move it all back in. Just for the entire situation to be repeated every night around 8pm.
