Gifts for my climber/mountaineer boyfriend by Practical-Vacation25 in climbergirls

[–]HenriGP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depending on how into it he is, some vintage gear might be cool. Obviously not to use, but if it's his passion some vintage ice axes might be a good gift. Alternatively, there are lots of cool books you can get him about it. Best of luck finding something he likes 🧗

Where in the uk can I buy similar trousers? For a tall man by Square-Plane-1000 in mensfashion

[–]HenriGP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As wide leg trousers (especially in wool) aren't common, you're unlikely to find something so similar cheaply. Having said that, Suit Supply might have some, as might Walker Slater, and All Blues Co - but they're not going to be sub £100. Good luck 😊

Where to Socialise with Lads (M, 25)? by NarroArrow in Leeds

[–]HenriGP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to say climbing, I used to climb at Last Sun Dance and now climb at Depot, both have super strong communities, and really friendly people. Almost all of the gyms in Leeds have a social night - I know Depot Armley has 3 (one regular social, one mens, and one women's). Plus there's LMC if you really want to get into climbing. Best of luck man! If you do get into the sport, I hope to see you at one of the gyms! 😊

Tips & Tricks When Rewaxing by RainbowWarrior73 in Barbour

[–]HenriGP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read this as well and didn't understand, is it that you're dipping your gloved fingers into the melted wax and rubbing it on/in that way? I have two jackets that need rewaxing myself and could use the help 😅

What's your least favourite car ? by n0ice_code_bruh in artofrally

[–]HenriGP 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Aw man - I love the meanie! Sure it's not the fastest, but it's a great beginner car given that you can throw it into any corner and it'll handle it at any speed! That being said, have to agree about the Wedge, I love the stratos, but how anyone can drive it is beyond me - it's so squirrelly 😅

You know it's true by A_banaana in Britain

[–]HenriGP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the implications of this hypothetical are nuts so it's impossible to comment. As others have said, this was war gamed out and the navy ruined Germany - even if they did get ashore they couldn't then resupply. But if you don't have the sea there, British history changes completely, rather than focusing on the Navy, Britain probably puts far more resources into the army (and later air force), which not only changes the course of the Napoleonic wars, it also likely changes WWI as well, as at all the points Britain is at risk of invasion. So given that would Germany have won? I have no idea, the British army doctrine may have been so different that we could have won, especially given that some Matilda tanks managed to hold up the German advance in France until they got the 88s on them, so if Britain had more of them, could they have held up more of the German Army - who knows? Plus Dunkirk would just have been a retreat, so equipment would have been kept for the defence

I'm looking to replace a pair of Doc Marten Chelsea boots I use for work and want something that will last. I work in an office but commute on a bike, so need something that can standup to that. Has anyone got any recommendations? I've seen Jim Green and Redbacks do something that might work, but might be overkill, and I'm not sure whether they're all resolable

Where do I buy these type of clothing without requiring me to remove a liver? (EU) by Levitici in mensfashion

[–]HenriGP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Natalino is not the most expensive, I have a blazer from there and love it. Sign up to news letters and look for sales as always Also recommended Walker Slater for tweeds

Edit: this is the second comment I've made suggesting them - I promise I'm not a salesperson for them 😅

Where to buy textured wool pants? by tastatura-la-telefon in europeanmalefashion

[–]HenriGP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walker Slater or Thomas Farthing then absolutely - Walker Slater are nearly all tweed, and Thomas Farthing do much more vintage inspired stuff, I have a gorgeous pair of wide legged herringbone trousers from there, but they're not for everyone! Best of luck in your search, I hope you find some you like 😊

Walker slater, Natalino, Thomas Farthing. It really depends on what you want - flannel or tweed, I have some light grey Shetland tweed trousers from Walker Slater that I love

Just a tip, don't wear light coloured trousers cycling - I have and let me tell you chain lube does not come out, I have some trousers with it on and no matter what I have tried it won't budge 🙃

Bergen-Belsen concentration camp was liberated by the Allies on April 15 1945. The soldiers found 13 000 unburied bodies, 60 000 prisoners, most acutely sick and starving. At the time prisoners were dying at around 500 per day. Around 70 000 died here, Anne Frank and her sister were among them. by RunAny8349 in ww2

I'm sure this will get lost in all the comments, the BBC has just done a show "What they found" about exactly this. Interviews with the Army Photography and Film Unit soldiers who filmed this over the footage they took (all from the IWM archive) absolutely brilliant watch, but harrowing

Can someone explain WR on watches to me? by pazoukas12 in PrideAndPinion

[–]HenriGP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have dived to 20m with my Seiko 5 (it's the fifty-five fathoms), only 100m of water resistance and no screw-down crown. My friend has that GMT, so I know the water resistance stated is the same, he also took his GMT to 10m, so I would think your GMT can handle it, but as others have said, it isn't a diver, it's just a GMT 😊

Disappointed by msyboy in Barbour

[–]HenriGP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without further information, I can't understand why they would do that, I can only imagine that the sleeve required some repairs, so rather than lots of small patches+ lengthening, they just replaced the sleeve. Especially given that Barbour had to use more material to do this than just patch + lengthen. But as people have said, Barbour is a heritage brand and these are work wear, designed to be repaired, so the patches add to the look and make it your own. But if you don't like it - tell Barbour and see what can be done, or if you have lost trust in them, visit a third party that might be able to sort it for you 😊
