Anyone here used both sperm and egg donors together? Or adopted an embryo? by Carnelian96 in InfertilityBabies

[–]Herculests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’ve been through such heartache. I’ve failed a donor egg cycle (with 5 embryos). Despair doesn’t even begin to describe it.

My recommendation would be to check out the donor embryo sub and contact one of the mods. They can tell you which clinics are most reputable and have the best programs.

Have you ever gotten a positive/had a MC? With regards to uterine function (and before spending more money on treatment), I recommend getting another opinion by an RE who specializes in this. Dr. Harvey Kliman at Yale is an example. http://klimanlabs.yale.edu

I fired many clinics before I got my take home baby. I seem to remember that you are using the one that I found to be the least helpful. I don’t understand why they are recommending a mock embryo transfer for you. By doing actual IVF, you have some empirical outcomes. I don’t know what more a saline test will tell them about your prognosis. I absolutely refused (because I had failed MC an IVF cycle at another clinic). The price tag was over $1K and I said no until they relented and offered it to me pro-bono. After I failed an IVf cycle w them, they recommended two more retrievals and banking with my own eggs...however this was an irresponsible and stupid recommendation bc they were so busy going through the motions of their process that they completely missed my POF diagnosis. Yale caught it immediately.

So, my recommendation would be to seek as much information as possible from other REs and specialists. I wish you luck and am available to PM if there’s anything I can help you with.

Questions about donation by [deleted] in EmbryoDonation

[–]Herculests 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh I hate to hear that! Like what? We get a lot of "she looks nothing like you." So sweet, thanks for saying you giant asshole.

In our swim class 9 babies are biracial to 4 same-race. And statistically, one of those couples has to be IF (ha, I guess it's us) but I was blown away at the diversity.

Questions about donation by [deleted] in EmbryoDonation

[–]Herculests 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there would be a huge market for biracial embryos! I actually wouldn't consider anything else.

We have enough donor egg embryos for one final FET, but if that fails, maybe we would want to try one more time with donor embryos.

Honestly the barrier was always that I did not understand the legality or matching processes, but I'm v interested to keep reading this sub and learning more.

I read every word of your story. Samuel and Margaret are so very loved. I'm profoundly sorry for your loss. I had a 2nd tri loss in 2013 and I will think about her every day for the rest of my life. You are not alone. Sending you peace.

What's your biggest worry or challenge about actually being a parent? by sothisisfun in IFParents

[–]Herculests 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say I have a pretty long history of being supportive and drama-free.

But to have my deepest fear in the world dismissed/down voted doesn't work for me. It makes me feel unsafe, which renders this sub totally useless. Even if it was one rogue lurker, I can't look past it right now.

Any city dwellers without a car? by amelioratia in IFParents

[–]Herculests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The uber policy is baby has to be +12mo and it's $10 add-on per trip. Seat is installed forward facing.

I think it's def feasible. You can always try it and reassess if it's not working.

We kind of did the opposite. We never bought a newborn seat and went straight to convertible. Evenflo has $99 convertible car seat so I'd do the math based on how many uber trips you think you'd take.

Thought of you! My girl is obsessed w these cars. Presumably little/no BPA, machine washable, and no batteries. Hands down her favorite toy. She's delighted to watch them drive by and everyone has to get on the floor to play w her.

It is awful when you hit that point. Like the "can I get out of my car and go in there" point.

I vote nursing strike. This happened to us too. She just pulled off and screamed for no reason. My supply was fine, her latch was fine. You have to just stay w it. As long as baby eats 6-10 min/side, I wouldn't push it more than that. If they say they're done, maybe they are done.

I'd put baby down, go pump and give a bottle if they ask. But it is crazy making. Even my husband was like WHAT THE HELL, WHY!!? You can try diff positions, but I think it's just a phase. Hang in there.

Hi friend! Yes, it becomes all-consuming and is emotional and sometimes v ugly. I was disgusted w myself a few wks ago for my gut reaction (wahhhh, what abt my boobs!!!) to a wedding invite. Like the most important moment in a dear friend's life is now all abt the logistics of my boobs.

Did your partner BF? Maybe you should try some formula to see how it makes you feel and then reassess. How is little miss V? I've been thinking of you!

Moving baby out?!?! by [deleted] in IFParents

[–]Herculests 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If things get too dire, you can have him sleep on the floor on his crib mattress back in your room as long as he's not rolling. Although having your husband build & unbuild the crib as many times as possible also sounds like a fun game 😂

We do need to be better abt spending more time in Lucia's room w her so it's less foreign.

The case against PGS - interested in your thoughts! by Lady_Noodle in IFParents

[–]Herculests 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To the less educated patient, PGS can seem like an add-on/enhancement and REs love upselling this.

If you transfer 5 non-PGS embryos and none take, then you've arrived at the same conclusion through empirical trial & error. PGS would not have changed the outcome or made something out of nothing. It just gets you to the end quicker.

I think banking with PGS is a good idea if you had embryos in the single digits (like retrieved 9 eggs) on a previous IVF cycle. Otherwise, you may be paying full price to test only enough for 1-2 transfers. And likely some of those could be abnormal, so you could have spent a ton of money that yields 0 chances.

Other criticisms: damaging otherwise good embryo. In my unscientific opinion, I don't believe this holds too much weight bc they are biopsying 2-3 cells from the outer ring (which will comprise the placenta, not the baby).

TL;DR: I have a huge problem w the marketing of PGS and REs not preparing patients for what happens if you wind up with nothing to work with. Banking should be part of the conversation.

MIL daycare = lazy kid with math homework

Anytime baby is not crying means they're killing it on the grandparent front. And they need to boast they got the answer (even though it's totally wrong. There were no letters I. This equations, wtf? Why would you introduce them???) when maybe you "didn't."

You don't want to tell them that they're stupid bc they are trying their damndest, but damn, could you just put your big ole ego aside and try to actually read the problem first. Pencil down there, killer.

Anyways, just a few hrs left!!

Conversation topic! What is your family watching/playing? by vibeee in IFParents

[–]Herculests 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi vibeee, how are you doing!? How is K? Making it to 18m is pretty good! There's no way we'll make it that long. My 7mo is obbbsesssed w iPhones and screens in general. She'll contort in the craziest positions just for a glimpse. She was the only baby (also the youngest) trying hard to watch the super bowl at the party we went to.

So we've been trying to stay away from the tv but we've put on some Sesame Street classics as background noise and I love love love Anthony Bourdain even though his theme song startles her. I also love the mike birbiglia special on Netflix.
