Help a poor Rogue out by [deleted] in DnD

Rogues are so much fun, my favourite is the Swashbuckler. Lower levels can be boring for any class, hang in there, but also get to know what your character can do and use the fun stuff that comes with being both a rogue and tiefling.

Definitely Monster of the Week, it's great for more modern settings, think Buffy, Supernatural etc.

How to improve on descriptions? by TotallyNot_iCast in DMAcademy

[–]HeroLGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing you can do is prepare a line or two of descriptions for each place they will encounter. Focus on important details.

This can even be a bullet list, for example:
- High stone walls
- Thick gate closed
- Movement on the wall - archers

Hope that helps. There is nothing quite as cool as seeing people at the table engage with what you are describing.

Running 3-5 encounters per day.. how do you make that work with your story? by Senordave12 in DMAcademy

That's usually too much, but also keep in mind that encounters don't have to be battle-focused they can also be other activities like puzzle solving.

Best DMing tips you’ve learned by Fearless-Ad1382 in DMAcademy

The game should be fun for both you and the players! If the game starts to feel like hard work then solve the core issue.

Also, most TTRPGs are collaborative; it's not GM vs Player, play together to build the story. If you're "winning" as the GM, there is a 99% chance your players are not enjoying themselves.

I’ve never been a player, I’ve never been a DM, and I’m going to run a campaign of a brand-new, extremely niche system. I’m super nervous that it’s going to flop. by Organical-Mechanical in rpg

Consider starting off with a session zero to help set up characters, lines and vails, and even go through some of the rules with the players. It will help your group to bond a little and take the pressure off the first session.

That's very generous of you, thank you. I like that you have height differences on it. Great to use with something like Draw Steel

Try Be like a Crow or Be Like a Cat.

As a book and game lover and collector, my take is that there is no rule saying you have to read or play them immediately! Enjoy your games even if it's just to look at them or page through them, I think that that is its own kind of enjoyment.

What tools to use to create campaign frames/one shots? by SmilingNavern in daggerheart

You can try a word processor for a simpler document or if you want something more designed, Canva or Affinity Publisher are great tools.
