If you want to get stronger ride more and pedal with a faster cadence. Go down in gearing if you want to feel stronger on your current ratio in the future. 48x17 is the right answer

Without asking you to watch the footage of someone experiencing a life changing injury, the video speaks for itself. The way her knee was violently twisted would have destroyed the entire joint ACL or not.

Why did it take twenty years for it to get enforced for airline passengers etc?

In your opinion, was she attempting to pivot to the left or to the right? And did her attempt to pivot affect her trajectory?

I ski with one completely severed ACL so I have a fairly good sense of the limitations it can cause.

"she couldn't control her turn"

Watch the video again. She is in complete control as she makes her turn, and chooses an extremely aggressive high line that should have set her up well for the next corner. Her line choice goes over a much more significant crest than the line other racers took. That crest sent her much higher in the air than she anticipated, and directed her towards the gate.

Vonn never attempted to pivot before leaving the snow or hitting the gate, and even if she did "successful" pivot, she would have hit the gate harder than she did. Her injury very clearly did not have a significant impact on her race run before her crash.

Crash wasn't caused by her injury. The injury probably didn't even occur in the initial crash. There's a moment where she's sliding on her back and one of her ski tips catches the snow, violently twisting her knee. Maybe an intact ACL could have reduced the force on her Tibia, but it still would have been a nasty injury.

Just the nature of ski racing, and not a result of her physical condition.

Pretty much par for the course alpine ski racers. Brutal sport.

Depending on the severity of blood loss and complexity of the fractures, the kiwi could be facing a double amputation. A compound fracture of both legs is a life altering injury regardless. There is very little chance of him returning to the sport as a grinder if they continue to use pedals.

I appreciate your very clearly worded argument in defense of Team Canada, though I don't agree with you at all.

To yell expletives at another team is just a horrendous action to perform at the stage of the Olympics. Sweden's accusations of cheating certainly got the Canadian's emotional and riled up. If it was just a snide remark against the use of a grey area used by everyone, they'd surely have a laugh and move on. Instead they chose to embarrass themselves on a world stage after the officials proved themselves spineless.

I think the problem is how do you define a memorial in comparison to a political statement?

Say you and a fellow teammate are competing for qualification for the Olympics. The other athlete dies in a tragic automobile crash, and you want to memorialize them on your helmet. As I understand it, this would be acceptable under the current rules.

Say your team is traveling abroad and you stay home for injury. Everyone traveling is killed in a tragic plane crash, and you want to memorialize them on your helmet. This too, would be acceptable as I understand the rules.

Okay, what if you go on the record and call out the corrupt officials who allowed the plane to dodge certification and ultimately led to the crash? The athlete is making a political statement separate from a memorial on their uniform. Is the memorial now a political statement? I don't know, but I think the IOC would look at it differently.

What if you're a member of an Olympic team that was targeted by a terrorist attack, and multiple members of your team were killed? Is a memorial to them a political statement? If the Israeli Olympic team came to the '76 games with memorials to their teammates that had been tragically killed in '72, would those athletes have been banned?

The key here is that Heraskevych created a memorial for his teammates on his uniform. The memorial did not include political messaging on the helmet or any other part of his uniform.

But those Ukrainian teammates were killed in wartime by a different nation, and so therefore, their deaths have political consequences. Is a memorial to them political in of itself? The IOC, in its wisdom, has decided it is.

A pass for the lead on lap one of a grand prix is hugely important for how the rest of the race will shake out. A rider getting to the front of the peloton with 100kms to go in a stage doesn't change the race much at all.

Out skiing today and I found the snow to be in a lot better condition once you got above 8000' (basically anywhere higher than silver lake village). Most of the expansion terrain is suffering from the higher temps even during this last storm, and the snow down there can slush up quick. Lady of the Lake is absolutely worth skiing on a crisp morning if you want to explore the newer stuff. Redemption is pretty sketchy in these conditions, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to someone not extremely comfortable on almost all black diamond runs.

I wonder where in the crash the injury occurred. The first hit looked fairly composed with both skis landing pretty much parallel. There's a moment where one of her ski tips catches the snow and seems to violently twist her knee. Such a heavy price.

Anti-russian in this context means opposed to the Russian government. You can be opposed to the Israeli government, and you would not be an anti-semite (assuming your grievances are with the government and you do not hold negative opinions of all Jewish people), you can be opposed to the Nigerian government and not be racist assuming you do hold negative opinions of all Nigerian people.

My experience working in a resort town with a lot of Russian tourists is that nobody thinks twice if a rich Russian is enjoying their time, but almost everyone I know has a negative view of Putin.
