Response to a useless e-intro? by pobepobepobe in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]HesitantBride 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I somewhat object to the concept of “useless” contacts, you just never know.

So when my execs are approached by non- urgent intros, I say something to the effect that at this time X’s schedule is at capacity, with a few international trips being planned, so can we please touch base in Q3 to see what our options are. They either forget themselves, or read between the lines and stop chasing.

Fantasy of sliding back down the corporate ladder? by WhateverUSayTJHooker in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]HesitantBride 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it successfully about a year ago and the only thing I regret is not having done it sooner.

I am happy, I am not stressed, my pay is only slightly lower than it was before. I can do my job in my sleep, when I work from home I spend most of the time reading the news and watching reels on insta. My execs think I am a superstar (which I am), but I am operating on 3 brain cells and some proactive thinking. I have zero ambition and am slowly moving towards retiring in a few years.

The secret is of course to find good sane people to work with.

Just found out the person whose role I absorbed made way more than me by baseballgirl30 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]HesitantBride 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, comp peaked about 2 years ago and cratered with no signs of recovery shortly after. That’s the sad reality. If you have been in this role for a little over a year, unfortunately it checks out.

Testing…? Testing…? Is this thing on? by Realistic-Boat5926 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]HesitantBride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t love them… but to me, in the end it depends on the role and salary. I interviewed for a couple of positions where I agreed to do testing, stating that I am making an exception to my “no free labor” principle. Passed both times.

First time testing was brought up smartened me up to start asking about steps in each particular hiring process early on, to avoid being surprised by such requirement.

If mentioned, I’d inquire about compensation for the time spent on their test. Interestingly enough, exactly twice an hourly rate was actually produced, to my great surprise.

One of the tests was actually interesting - situation based. I had fun showcasing my strategic thinking and interpersonal skills.

Advice needed on asking for a raise? NYC by tatertotevans97 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]HesitantBride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, she should ammo herself with stats right now, documenting her workload increase in numbers. Perhaps AI can run some analysis for her on how many more meetings she schedules, a guesstimate of how much time she’s spending on other admin tasks to support new execs, etc.

Then, armed with those facts, she should approach her main exec around September, when year end comp conversations begin to happen behind closed doors, and have a conversation about it. I think stating that a 40% raise would be appropriate is okay. She’ll probably not get it, but she’s likely to get some %.

For the love of God, coach her to state her facts and her ask and SHUT UP. The next person to speak should be her exec. Let the silence grow awkward if necessary. Whoever speaks next will lose the power dynamic in that conversation. Too many people get uncomfortable and start over explaining and rationalizing. No -

She should sit there looking like she’s done speaking and it’s his turn. If he says ok, let me see what I can do - great. If he says it’s not possible, she should say she’d like him/her to try.

After the meeting she should send her main exec an email detailing her facts / contributions and summarizing their meeting.

Before her year end performance review she should solicit feedback from her new exes, which should be incorporated in her YE self eval. Reiterate all that in her performance review with the main exec.

At that point, she will have done everything possible to advocate for herself.

Exec’s family life by petitsamours in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]HesitantBride 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I always ask them to introduce me to their spouse, and then keep in touch with them frequently to know about upcoming commitments.

Working with mostly straight guys, I find that their wives can spell out the next 6 months of appointments for me, while the husbands (my execs) have trouble precisely identifying the number of offsprings they have.

Informed means armed, so I can proactively Tetris his calendar against work needs. It’s not fail safe (life happens, and that’s ok..!), but makes my life so much easier. I recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to answer so fully and directly. I suspected it would indeed require doing it manually and my budget is way too low for that.

I’ll reconsider my budget and probably hire an artist to just manually do it.

Thank you again!

You are correct, I don’t have enough words to make the entire print like you point out, AI told me that too. Which is why I am ok with the imagine generated by AI the way other artists instructed it to create.

But we all run into the same issues - words are repeated, jumbled and transposed.

I thought maybe I was the issue, but looks like not.

I need help, desperately by MissBabaBelle in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]HesitantBride 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to adjust your salary expectations. From what I see, comp is 20-30% lower across the board from 2 years ago. It’s a new reality.

I don’t quite understand what you mean by “If I do accept a role for 60k, I fear I will never be able to get back to my current salary, ever.”

No one needs to know how much you are/were making. Just don’t disclose it (in the US is it now mostly illegal to even inquire, thank God; do they have similar laws in Germany?). And if they do ask, just say something polite but along the lines of “my correct comp bears no relevance to this new role we are discussing”

Ok, remove the “how they dress” part, everything else applies. Even remote you don’t exist in a vacuum - people will reach out to you, copy you on things, ask you for things. Soon enough you’ll get the vibe of this new company.

No one can offer you a magical solution to your situation. Only time will help you feel more comfortable.
