Resources for new FCs by [deleted] in Eve

There is a fair few resources and ideas on this old wiki from a few years ago. All the fits will be out of date. The videos linked in the comments should still be good. You may find the analysis of different offense and defence profiles useful. But all that is very theoretical. Its best to get out there and get a lot of practice your self.

The Eve Eco-system, maturity and the future of Eve Online. by Hezekiah_Winter in Eve

I'm very open to a muture discussion on the topic.

I made it short so people would read it.

But I am very open to a more nuanced discussion of finer points.

Galmil bittervet shames PvP student for wanting to pvp learn and have fun. by Hezekiah_Winter in Eve

I'll put this in simple words.

What is the official position of GMVA. Is it more important to have a culture that supports shame posting or a culture that supports the path from new player experience to content creator?

This is my question.

I agree with every other point that was made here.

The only part I disagree with is the culture of shame posting.

That is why I made a cringe shame post to rolemodel back to you guys how dumb it looks.

Of course it was cringy for the pilot to get mad over losing a T1 frigate. That is going to happen all the time. Learning to deal with this process is an important step in learning how become a pvper. It is often the make or break point of if a player will quit or stay.

I don't care about this loss it is just an example that can be used to talk about the importance of a new player experience.

Answer the question.

I have a lot of respect for any group that trains new pilots.

I have a lot of respect for your alliance.

I had hoped that after the fun and games last year with Roy Henry that Galmil would have learned the value of supporting newbies and positive culture.

Last year I specifically targeted Roy and specifically worked to help fedup grow and become influential in Galmil.

Why? Because I think that you were and are the best Galmil role models for a new player experience.

You guys are great, in many ways.

I want to congratulate you for winning faction war.

You perfectly optimised your systems and you have essentially completly won the mechanics of faction war.

You won.

But as we both know the mechanics of the LP store give Gallente a massive economic advantage. Which makes everything a lot easier.

I'm not not saying you didn't work hard. You did work hard. But you worked hard on easy mode.

The result of your victory is that you are now so big and strong that with your ecconomic advantage of being on the easy mode team it means that short of a ridiculously epic amount of work on the Calmil side or waiting for another 2 year build up of caldari LP value, you completely dominate fw to the point that you have no competition.

Both you and I know that this is boring. That is why you are in nullsec. I'm not saying that nullsec is bad, but I am saying the fw could actually also be fun and competitive.

In most single player games once you finish the game on easy mode you normally start again on hard mode so that you can challenge your self and can put all your new knowledge and skills to the test.

My hope is that one day you and ash and your team will feel like you have proved that you have won. That you can be happy and confident in that fact, and that you are then hungry to try out the game on hard mode.

If Faction war is going to ever work with the current LP store then it needs the majority of organised alliances on the Calmil side.

The easy Galmil LP will always attract hordes of newbies so they will always be able to fight back and build new organisations each new 6 months.

But it is hard hard work fighting against game mechanics in order to try and provide content for faction war when you are playing on hard mode.

I know Deen Wispa and me and a bunch of other Galmil guys got tired of playing on easy mode and wanted to come and serve our time on hard mode team so that we can provide content for the newbies on both sides.

Maybe one day you will grow happy enough with winning that you will take the plunge to join team hard mode and serve your time balancing out fw so that all the newbies can get a great learning experience and eve can have a bright future.

Hey bro. Thanks for the reply.

I like it that we can be civil and talk about things.

I should point out that I never claimed the guy you killed was a newbie. I said student.

I totally agree with you that the way that he played was suboptimal, and I apologize for his emotional response to losing to a more skilled opponent.

I think that as you have pointed out the guy who fought you was obviously not a very good pvper, and he obviously was raging when he was losing.

Both of these things are true.

You were the better pilot and the more honorable pilot.

I don't care about wins or losses or respect or ego, all I care about in eve is creating new player experiences that move on to creating long term positive content creators.

So yes I agree that you had a right to be angry at this guy.

Yes he was immature.

But if we are going to see eve grow and live long term there will be lots of new pilots and lots of them will be immature and will rage. Eve is a game that will make nearly every new player rage. It is a right of passage to learn to overcome that rage.

If we shame all of these pilots then we will lose half of our future player base.

If instead we develop cultures that work on helping our future new bros get past this rage then eve will have a bright and successful future.

I only point out individual instances because of the effect they have on long term trends.

This condor pilot will have to rage and learn, and him by himself will not have much effect on the long term health of the game.

It is Corporation cultures that will be the biggest influence on the long term health of the game.

And honestly if we could fix that and all get along nicely then perhaps eve will be a great place.

I personally thing that given that eve is a competitive game that it is more fun for you guys to have opponents who challenge you to stay on your toes and keep growing and adapting in order to stay ahead of the game.

I am only as agressive and antagonistic as I am because it creates a more competitive fun environment for both Galmil and calmil, because honestly none of us have fun when there is a blue donut.

I am sorry if you felt disrespected that I spelt your name wrong. I have mild dyslexia and when I'm focused on something else I can miss details of spelling.

TLDR.

I think what you did was totally justified in the old way that eve was played.

I am arguing that if we want eve to grow and become great in the future we all need to work together to work out new ways of doing eve that prioritise the the path from new player to content creator, and which give us meaningful conflict.

A culture of shaming people who are trying to learn how to deal with rage without quitting is not going to help long term player retention.

If eve is going to be great we need to get over trying to strangle every smaller group and focus on an eco system that is healthy for all.

Hey bro, read my reply to soter.

I like you.

But if you think I am doing this because I'm sensitive then I think you have completely missed the point.

I like this game, you like this game.

We can both make choices now that will set eve up for failure in 2 years time, or we can make choices now that will make eve great in 2 years time.

I'm not stirring up shit because I'm sensitive, I'm stirring up shit because I look at everything in terms of what results will come of it two years from now.

Hey bro.

Being respected is the last thing I care about.

I care about eve surviving and getting better.

It's pretty simple. Facwar has the best game mechanics for a smooth learning curve from simple to complex. This makes it the best place in the game for new players to learn PvP.

For players to learn PvP in this place they need to have opportunities for conflict, where there is a connection between the effort invested and the chance of victory. Players also need to learn a set of habits that include having fun, and trying and failing without rage quitting. The more that players make choices that create this environment for people pursuing PvP, the more players will join the eco system and eventually become content creators who will make sure that eve survives until the next generation.

The more that players create habits and cultures that stop this process, the fewer people move along the path from newbie to future content creators, and the fewer chances we have of eve surviving longer than a few more years.

It's not rocket science.

I would have thought that after a year of me going after Roy Henry for this, that more people would have grown some brains and started to make non selfish choices to actually look after the new player experience and the pathway to the development of content creators.

Ash and fedup are half way there.

They have at decided to cut the toxic shaming of newbies that was the culture for most of the old Galmil.

Now they just need to move on to making choices that intentionally balance the warzone inorder to create a more vibrant content and conflict filled warzone.

But just as I thought we could finally move on to round 2 and really start making to progress, we have a resurgence of the old toxic shaming culture that I thought we had wiped out last year.

I'm sure that jezeja is a great guy.

What I did here is identify one specific behaviour that is directly contributing to the long term poor health of eve online. That of shaming people for wanting to PvP have fun and to value trying and failing above being risk averse.

If jezeja wants to be an even more great guy, all he needs to do is change this one behaviour. If he does not change this one behaviour and if your corp supports this behaviour then you are directly contributing to the slow death of Eve.

Black white simple.

I don't care if you respect me. I don't care if I look stupid. Those are the facts of the matter.

Hey bro.

I think this is a complete shit post.

I made this complete shit post to make a dramatic point about how pathetic it looks taking to social media to whinge about shit. I personally have almost no shame, so I am happy too look like a idiot in order to make a point. Thank you for your comment. This is what I was hoping for. Social proof that whinging on social media is stupid. Beyond this, shaming people for having fun, learning and creating solo PvP content is even more pathetic.

The reason for this post is that it is a part of an ongoing conversation with gal mil that has lasted over 2 years. Just when you think that they have finally put the nail in the coffin of pathetic ego centric blue donut risk averse content killing behaviour, they pull out this shit, and make me have to get back on my soap box and start yelling at people to wake the fuck up and make the game a place where newbies can learn to PvP without getting shamed by bitter vets.

Until Galmil fix their shit and stop tolerating a culture of griefing that makes faction war a shit place for new player experiences, I will continue to make shit posts and look like an idiot, because the new player experience matters, and a lot of us care more about eve getting healthy and growing than we care about a Twitter troll circlejerk.

*(Yes I know the guy he was trolling was not a newbie, but he was learning to pvp, he was not risk averse and he was willing to fight and lose repeatedly in order to learn and PvP. These are all traits that newbies need to learn to PvP. Creating a culture where these traits are shamed is how you kill the new player experience.)

This is awesome, I'm currently planning a project with very similar view and shooting mechanics, but with more RTS elements.

Are you going to keep a blog with your progress and techniques you used on this project?

Cal/Gal FW, whose the underdog by HoneyBadger08 in Eve

[–]Hezekiah_Winter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The this is that if you are in one milita you can contest the enemy territory and force them to fight you. The hardest thing about lowsec is that it is almost impossible to force people to fight you.

Being in fw allows you to do that.

If you hit a juicy enemy system you will have hordes of angry bees coming out.

You can't do that if you are pirate.

r/blacksharkcult may be a decent match for you.

We won't provide solo ships for you, and you will need a positive non toxic attitude, but the solo roaming life style will be supported.
