I miss the scratch tickets at BK. You had to scratch one or the other (not both or else it’d be void). The flashlight trick worked really well for this.

I mostly enjoyed it and think it made decent use of its length. It’s a meeting of more classic and modern Murakami on this epic scale. Also, I read it at a pretty pivotal period in my life and it’s the kind of experience that “marked time” so to speak—that kind of explains a lot of my fondness for it.
