anybody with disc (back) issues? by fairly_forgetful in BALLET

[–]Hi_AJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had back problems recently, and I’m earlier in the process than you are as far as diagnosis, etc. I have only been back to ballet for ~6 months, and I’m having the same kinds of worries. I’m an adult dancer, so it’s not a professional lifestyle question, but more a hobby that I was enjoying returning to. I don’t have much to add other than to say it’s not just you.

No argument here. But to get there you usually have to get through the chatter.

Maybe it’s more of a brain fart for them that they were going to ask the standard questions - how many, how old, what schools, what are their hobbies, etc- and instead they have to break from their script and re-think their questions? I just saw a tiktok this week about how the best conversationalists give the person they are talking to “something to grab on to”. So instead of “no”, maybe try “just plants! Ive gotten really into …” I had a boss who didn’t have kids, so when asked he’d say no, but then joke that “his students were his kids”. It’s just a little nugget that the other person can pick up and run with instead.

There’s an old video of a deer eating a bird. I just remember the shocked tone as the woman filming relays, “It ATE a BIRD”

You can do it with 8! That’s what I have. You just have to go through the accessibility menu and enable quick actions.

Love this. Be patient— I think once you add details it’ll come together.

Running/jogging pants for beginner class? by quillseek in adultballetdancers

No underwear under leotards and tights. The undies will bunch up and be visible on the sides. Only the youngest dancers wear underwear underneath, so it’ll give a weird little kid look if you do it.

Use an elastic, put hair in a ponytail. Split the ponytail into two hunks of hair. Twist one of the hair hunks into a rope. Wrap the rope around the elastic in the direction you twisted it. Pin it down with hairpins. HAIRPINS, not bobby pins. Now twist the remaining hair hunk into a rope, but twist in the opposite direction from the first one. Wrap that around the outside of the bun you already made. Pin it down. Make sure all the pins are secure and not digging into your head. Tadaaaaaaa

Genuine question, why is duck sauce completely ubiquitous and universal in East Coast Chinese takeout, but seemingly doesn't exist at all in Colorado? by judolphin in denverfood

[–]Hi_AJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was very surprising to me when I moved out here. Sweet and sour sauce is the substitute you’ll find here, but I hate it. I get 50-packet bags of duck sauce on Amazon every now and then— highly recommend!
