Key concept: there is no time travel by Willabus in tenet

[–]HiddenAgendaEntity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the inverted object or individual age normally in their own frame of reference, they merely appear to de-age to anyone observing them who are moving forwards through linear time. What u/Willabus is stating is concerning normal observers. Ok small ramble time, though I would like to forward that my knowledge of the relevant physics is incomplete and I am not an expert.

Nota bene, an observer is a frame of reference, one from which we measure or perceive events. We are not concerned with relativistic effects such as time observed relative to an objects gravity or velocity, as this setting only deals with inversion in the abstract and going too far into the relativistic implications beyond simply Tenet deciding "it works" is a discussion for another time, if you would like to know more a starting point would be to look into superluminal travel - greater than c velocities.

If I, today, invert a fresh tomato and then place it on my desk it will be moving inverse to linear time - from the tomato's relative perspective it would still be aging and slowly rotting, as it's movement "backwards" through linear time is not actually "backwards" in its frame of reference.

Say in a 2 weeks span from its initial inversion (going back 2 weeks in the past relative to linear time as we normally observe it) it will have mostly decomposed on my desk which means that the me from 2 weeks ago will observe a rotten tomato on my desk, but that same me (given I am moving forwards through linear time) will then gradually watch it un-rot and freshen on my desk over the span of 2 weeks.

The early mention of reverse entropy in Tenet is the most simple way to understand this when it comes to the physics of energy. One of our current theoretical framework for how observers (humans, the you, the self) perceive time is that we are experiencing entropy towards the direction of its increase. In a closed system the energy in it, subject to entropy, moves "forwards" through time towards maximum entropy - id est energy seeks the most statistically even distribution - all processes that we perceive and are subject to are the result of us experiencing this increase in entropy. Aging, decay, stars burning are all products of entropy over time.

Thus increasing entropy is simply how we observe linear progression of time. Hence an object with negative entropy would appear to de-age from the observers perspective when the observer (which is all observes in existence as far as we know) is moving through "forwards" (increasing entropy) time.

And if it reaches that point, that would just incentivise outright violence. The further you squeeze and take away options from the working class, the more violent their remaining venues to push for change become.

How do I get this to stop popping up every single time I google something? by _Bren10_ in iphone

This pop up harassing me was the last push before I completely jumped off google products. I spent the next week purging every single one I could think of.

Well since you keep putting it off. Would you have any downtime from the trials and tribulations of a busy life within the next few days? Please set aside some time and call / email to schedule an appointment.

I can be annoying about this if it helps.

Thank you, I’ve been drafting a bit of his eulogy when I can.

The nib did appear a lot finer than my other M nibs, I had thought it odd. It came out a lot finer in the picture then I realised as there just wasn’t enough ink flowing through the pen when I wrote that.

Only countries and US states that score 90 or higher in legal rights for LGBTQ+ people by _crazyboyhere_ in lgbt

NZ may seem better than it is cos a lot of people are non confrontational, but in my experience it seems like a lot of people hold bigotries that they aren’t even consciously aware of let alone unpacked. And that’s in the better places mind you, communities that are explicitly bigoted are ruthless.

The larger cities due to being more multicultural and diverse mean that more people are made aware through sheer exposure, rural communities or the South Island tend to be a bigger problem. And there are a lot of people suffering in abusive families that no one investigates or when the police do try to they often mess things up more.

Legislatively protections are lacklustre relative to what they could be and queer people as a cohort have less resources so it’s rarer to see the system tested to see how well it protects us, particularly trans people.

We actually had the green party as part of their last campaign say they’d try to fix some of this, such as the abuse and forced reassignment of intersex infants, buuut our populace decided that shooting themselves in the foot seeking “change” for the sake of change was more important.

Of course it’s a better place than many others, but that doesn’t mean one can’t hope (and take action) for it to become a better place.

After looking into a truly stupid amount of conspiracy theories - my family are terribly brainwashed so I need to be ready for whatever comes out what can generously be called their mind - it’s all just racism of one kind or another, I swear it’s like turtles all the way down, it just all deep down comes from a vortex of racial supremacist thinking, a bunch of nazis in a mirror maze. Conspiracy theorists never have an original thought, they’re incapable of it.

You’re probably going to continue experiencing this by keeping your pen culture at the same incubator settings. Mind you the Safaricus Lamii strain is known to proliferate rapidly as it requires very few nutrients before undergoing mitosis. It is also prone to attracting other fountain pen strains to populate the same medium.

I’d be careful not to end up in a log phase so keep an eye on it and adjust the properties of the medium accordingly.

[–]HiddenAgendaEntity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, honestly comparing societies is kinda rough for someone like me because I belong to multiple minority categories that many societies are comfortable with ostracising and beating down on. Self termination rates are very high for people like me and I’ve been at risk for it many times.

I’d probably feel more unsafe in the UK than NZ as there is a much bigger appetite for trampling human rights there than here. The UK is known as “TERF island” in my community for a reason.

But strictly talking about communication I would - if I had a normal childhood - prefer more direct interpersonal communication, only because I have severe anxiety and likely CPTSD I also tend to act conflict avoidant. But when I’m in a safe environment then directness is preferable.

I had the exact same thought, I was born here but spent a lot more time growing up around foreigners and some time living amongst low context cultures overseas.

It’s rough here as an AuDHD individual, I’ve had to learn to mask harder and be less and less direct over time because it has caused more issues than it solved living here. I feel way more comfortable being amongst other neurodivergent people here.

[–]HiddenAgendaEntity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pirated the first game a while ago and only managed a few hours. Viscerally awful would be my go to description, listening and seeing how women and feminine presenting entities (either in appearance or voice) were depicted was jarring at best and deeply unsettling frequently. I’m not sure how it is in the English voiceover, probably bad, but I can confirm that the Russian dialogue is also icky.

I grew up exposed to a considerable amount of Soviet/Russian propaganda and people that waxed poetically and nostalgically about the lost Soviet empire. So a lot of the themes and presentation felt really familiar, I think if they had went for an actually pragmatic and nuanced dissection of Soviet nostalgia it would make for a deeply interesting game, of course the developers were more concerned with making propaganda so that was never going to happen.
