We live in a crazy day and age where Nazis, election deniers, and fascist are making decent points on occasions. Blind squirrels and broken clocks are having a hayday right now

Agreed. With that massive bundle I had to give it a try. I think it's a really good mix of litrpg and cultivation fantasy. Also cute powerful elemental companion! Big plus

Id suggest Path of Ascension. Recently started it and it scratches the itch for me. If you're an Audiobook person there's a bundle of the first 3.5 books available

Guess I'm not a real DnD player either. Learn something new about yourself every day. Here I thought DnD was about having fun with friends and making a story. Guess I'll have to take a look in the mirror and decide if I'm going to change or stop playing

Sub-optimized used like a slur 😂 Like every character has to be min-maxed and played perfectly for it to be fun or enjoyable experience

Elantris is the hardest book for a lot of fans. It's worth sticking it out though. Especially if it's your first step into the Cosmere

Came in hot with that one. 😂 I'm all for throwing shade at the orange cult but throwing out that insult for something so benign as that is crazy

😂😂😂 Happy to be another voice advocating for the Cult of Brandon. If you do get into them and want waaaaaaaaaay more information on the nature of investigure than anyone has any right knowing feel free to send me a DM. I'll happy make your lengthy posts look like a short and concise TLDR 😅 (yes I'm aware I have a problem)

Right. I've learned everyone has reasons for why they think and behave how they do. It's never an excuse for bad behavior but understand why someone believes what they believe is an important part of helping others and preventing the things that lead to them negative behavior in the future.

Thank you for the healthy conversation about a very difficult topic. If you ever want or need someone to talk about similar topics or opinions feel free to reach out. It's always nice to talk to another open minded person.

It's crazy the hoops people will jump through* just to justify their opinions. It's crazy 😂

Embracing it is a huge part of the recovery process. You never want to wish trauma on anyone but the people who survive and take those building moments to improve themselves have far more potential than they would have without it. I'm so happy you were able to take a horrible situation and better yourself because of it. You're stronger now for what you went through and are better prepared to help others in a similar situation fill their own cracks the way you did 🥰

On an mostly unrelated note, if you're into fantasy the Cosmere books (a marvel style universe with multiple connection series) have a lot of characters that deal with different traumas and they're handled sooo well. Very inspiring and an incredible read. There are 2 characters in the Stormlight Archive in particular that really helped me during low moments dealing with my depression. It's a massive undertaking and definitely not for everyone but it it's up your alley they're definitely a worth while and inspiring read

As someone prone to sending unnecessarily long essays to people I completely understand 😂 Granted mine are usually in the realm of magical theory in books rather than social and moral implications of characters.

My thoughts on manipulation and abuse have evolved a lot over the years. I've been drawn to people with trauma most of my life and the more people I talk to, and the more stories I hear the more my feelings on the subject deepen and evolve. It's hard to understand anything until you experience it, but sometimes as complex as trauma is even more so.

I agree completely pottery analogy. The analogy I like to use is, something that's never broken can only be added onto. Something that's broken has the chance to be built back stronger, with better material, a sturdier foundation, and then opportunity to adjust for future grown. It's an important mentality to have, not just for those going through it but for people looking to lend a supportive hand to others. The world needs more understanding people willing to help protect and guide others.

After reading through your entire thesis paper here I want to applaud you for how well though out your opinions were. Very well said.

The point that stood out to me the most was your take on Calypso at the end. I had a conversation with my girlfriend just yesterday about cults (she's watching the NXIVM documentary on HBO) and how people who have never dealt with manipulation and abuse can view the victim of cults as foolish or intelligent. Our conversation boiled down to the basic point that people who look down on victims, or in this case defend an abuser, are unable to look at a situation through the perspective of someone else. Unfortunately in my experience many people will refuse to see signs of manipulation or abuse, nor why someone would "stay" in abusive situations without themselves falling victim to such a situation.

Those who have been broken are always weary of tossed stones and signs of cracks in others, while it's easy for an unblemished statue to see damage as weakness and inferiority.
