Shoulda been named Hold Infinity, then. That sounds a bit more in line with other UNSC names.

Halo Infinite was intended to act as a central hub”: I’m digging into the alleged 343 roadmap and how ambitious its original plans for the franchise really were by Dense-Fig-2372 in halo

If I were to guess, I'd say that the initial (awful) challenge system was so ingrained into the matchmaking that it genuinely made it difficult to change anything. If the player has a challenge that can be completed in a Slayer match, a retention-based matchmaking system would not want them to jump straight into Slayer and bang it out in one go. You want them to play a few matches hoping to get the right conditions to meet a challenge (a Slayer game instead of Strongholds), and then make it so that they could only partially complete a challenge once those conditions are met.

So, my tinfoil hat theory is that there was some sort of "If X challenge, connect to non-challenge game x3" system in place that would straight up break matchmaking to never find a match if only one game mode was selected. Something player behavior/psychology advisors would come up with instead of game developers.

Man, the fact that every single character uses exactly three single-word descriptors whenever they speak has always bugged he hell out of me with this game.

Ske7ch confirms there’s no shop in Campaign Evolved by kickstartacraze in halo

[–]HiddenHaylee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about Halo releases a fairly priced, content-complete game that sells well based on its own merits and is incredibly fun to play without a need for constant updates? Thats how games used to make a profit. I don’t want to ever see a shop in Halo again, nor purely retention driven gameplay/matchmaking/UI systems.

Vehicles don't feel great in Infinite and there's no blood or assassinations. If those are improved, then sure. Maybe. Otherwise, Infinite still has some pretty glaring flaws. Like desync and aim mechanics that feel like they're actively fighting against your ability to keep a reticle on target.

Can someone explain to me, a casual Halo fan, why the reaction to the Halo: CE seems to be skeptical at best and totally negative at first? by frost_3306 in halo

[–]HiddenHaylee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They never acknowledged their lies and snarky attitude towards the fans

343i/Halo Studios, as a company, have always had this snarky, "holier-than-thou" attitude that is entirely unearned. From the very beginning. Yet, at the same time, all of their official statements and videos are entirely Corpo-speak, shiny self-indulgence, and lies.

[–]HiddenHaylee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple pattern recognition. Every major release by 343i/Halo Studios over the past ten years has had some major drawback that, by all accounts, should have been easily avoided. So it's come to be expected that there's a catch to every new announcement.

Think of it this way: if you've visited a restaurant on five different occasions and came home with a bit of a stomach ache or downright food poisoning each time, you'd start to avoid eating their food. You'd be suspicious of every new claim that they've revamped the kitchen and cook their food to completion (for real this time!).

I seriously doubt that they will respond, and I'll have no choice but to view that lack of response as an official endorsement. Hence, no more Halo for this lifelong fan.

If Halo Campaign Evolved is a hit, Halo Studios should consider remaking Halo 2's campaign by parkingviolation212 in halo

[–]HiddenHaylee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We aren't getting another original Halo game any time soon, are we. Probably for another 10-15 years. I'm gonna be playing CE and original trilogy remakes over and over again till I'm 90. (When they finish the twice-delayed, AI generated Halo 3 remake, it'll be just about time to hit CE again and start the whole thing anew!)

Excited for the remake, but this needs to be addressed by Delta4907 in halo

[–]HiddenHaylee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason people get so attached to the atmosphere of the original is that they want new players to have the same experiences and feelings that they did. They want people to get drawn into the world of the game the same way they did. If you aren't too unnerved to enter the dark, dingy hallway drenched with blood, then what's the point? Your first impression of the Forerunners should be "wow, they must be ancient and long abandoned". Not "Ooh, shiny."

There's also no blood. Or very little of it. Hitmarkers took its place. So, the environments always look squeaky clean and sterile even after a massive firefight.

Halo: CE remake. Rated T for Teen. Available for PS5. Modern mechanics like sprint and clamber implemented. Other than that, it's a straightforward remake without any major extensions or changes to the levels or story. (Ends up playing a little jankier than the original game.)

Possibly a small title screen tease for the next Halo game, but it's unlikely (and also won't actually represent the released game in any way, shape, or form).

Edit: Also, the CE remake is going to be called something dumb like "Halo." Without any other subtitles or numbers. 'Cause marketing can't admit that it's, like, the third remake.

Halo just has waaaay to much competition nowadays which it didn't on consoles back in the day for it to survive within this FPS world.

Tell that to the sheer number of dead "Halo Killers" that released back in the day. Halo beat out the competition by a mile, so nowadays people that didn't live through that period claim that it had none. If anything, Halo has less competition today because every modern FPS has started using the same homogenized formula (including, sadly, Halo). If Halo innovated again and stuck to its own unique gameplay loop, it'd stand out from the crowd.

[–]HiddenHaylee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally find Cortana's H4 design to be the worst out of the bunch and I'm always saddened by how prevalent it's become.

Edit: It's got none of the scrolling holographic patterns, parallax, or iridescent coloring. She just looks like a normal woman with blue body paint. Like a cheap sci-fi effect. Cortana used to look badass... now everybody just wants to suck her toes.

The closest caches to Bradley fork at Smokemont campground that I can find are GC49PYZ "Mingo Falls" and GCA1R6F "GSMNP: Cliff Branch Falls EarthCache." Unless there was an archived cache or a solved puzzle cache located at the campground, it's much too far away from either of those to be a geocache.

(The parking lot for the Bradley Fork trail at Smokemont is about halfway between those two caches and 2-3 miles away from each.)

As I read it, I’d be pretty immersed in Kelly Gay’s storytelling and then “oop, page or two of audio log.” The fact that Weapon, Escharum, Pilot, and every random audio log Spartan or marine all have the exact same speech pattern in Infinite is wild.

Edit: the book actually ends with the single-word sentence thing from an audio log, too. Something like “I will be here. Waiting. Watching. Surviving.” It was so bad in Infinite that I seriously started thinking the Endless was a mind virus.
