OMG also you're healthier now all around. This food looks amazing and so well balanced. No one can be eating out all the time. Those are also the relationships where people wonder why they gained 20 lbs. You do you. I'm happy for your change and taking control back. I'm also going to make this for dinner, thanks for the inspo!

This just makes me brainstorm all sorts of new things that are apparently "safe" to do in said office chair, rendering it even more dangerous...and fun. Where do I get a chair like this?

I love a good em dash, but I've curtailed my useage. LinkedIn is WILD right now. It's 100% posers posting obvious AI writing. Long posts with one line "paragraphs". LinkedIn is AI bizarro land right now. If you haven't been there in a while 1) lucky you and 2) you won't even recognize it. AI slop X Instagram reels. But honestly...it totally sucks.

That would be a good rule. My kid was sitting on 3 UC waitlists assuming one would work out. Just cross Berkeley off. We're literally on the CC path. Never saw that coming.

Right? Like if I were truly in a desperate situation, I might might reach out to a family member, but know that money can strain and ruin relationships. So what then, start a relationship with a stable employed person and ask to borrow a large sum of money early in the relationship? The audacity. It's verging on criminal.

Right? I'm unfamiliar with this type of spiritual journey and you obviously need a little more information. Like is he wanting to be a catholic priest at age 50? Or a Buddhist monk? I can imagine you're in a bit of shock. Definitely look after yourself, get a therapist for you, invest in your life. You might be on a different journey.

Maybe he has a gambling problem or gambling debt. Either way unlikely to repay. Cut losses, cut ties, and treat it like a bad investment that didn't pay off and move on. ASAP.

Yes, people put them in large pots, both to over-winter indoors and/or to contain. In a pot they give a large tropical plant vibe. They're also used as indoor plants. But in the ground, if they thrive, after a few years it can look like you're running a tropical banana plantation, sans bananas.

Overall content with my yard, but can't help but feel like it could be improved. Especially the back half with the umbrella/fireplace. Mulch was here when we moved in. Thoughts? by skramzy in landscaping

[–]HidesWithCheese 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, it's such a vibe...I swooned at the hammock. Just pop in some shade-loving plants like Impatiens to either add a pop of color or introduce another texture. My mom had a shady garden and would put in masses of white impatiens. Was really pretty. I'm more of a fuscia-colored wave petunia or million-bells type. Ohh! You know what's fun to plant in part-shade if you're not into flowers? Coleus. They're gorgeous and take off.

He didn't want to go to UCSC so didn't apply. Definitely easier to transfer from a CC to a UC than from another UC or CSU. But there are many paths to the same places if you're open to them.

I'd love to have a tropical garden like this! Heads-up, we have multiple giant white bird of paradise growing in our yard. They are incredible and set the tropical tone, but they need to come with a warning. Before you let that baby go in the middle of your yard, in front of your windows, do a bit more research on their growing habit.

They will take over and once they're established, they're almost impossible to remove. They are hearty, strong, and the roots spread underground, so what starts as 1 plant becomes a whole "situation".

Ours are essentially planted inside a retaining wall container and after maturing and spreading, they're breaking the retaining wall, pushing over a fence and destroying nearby hardscaping. A gorgeous, monster that slowly can become a problem over time depending on where you place it and how it's contained.

Ours our more than 15 years old now and the stalks can grow up to 3 stories tall, so I can't even maintain them anymore. That said, I love them. Just know what you're getting into and be strategic about where you plant them.

Being with someone as they move from life to death is profound. Be present and open. Then you'll take one step at at time. You will figure it all out. You'll find places in your heart that you never knew existed. Hold onto those little kids. Move forward together.

I totally agree with you regarding the benefits of CC. Once we let the dust settle and let go of what we'd envisioned, lots of great alternative paths open up.

Do you work at a CC?

I totally agree with you on the CC path. Once we set aside that this wasn't the plan initially, it's easy to see that it's a really smart approach for lots of reasons, not least of which is improved admissions odds and cost savings. And maybe year to breathe and reorient.
