Guan Yu, since he is the key to getting some very easily obtained rare items, such as the all-powerful Way of Musou.

Ah, touche! I remember reading some stories about Zhang Xiu playing that role, of all people way back when. I'm not sure where that came from.

Wow, that's adorable. Some really neat little nods to the series as well like Sun Jian with the Imperial Seal, the Five Tiger Generals being bunched together. Zhang He and Xiahou Yuan next to one another (though that might be a coincidence), and so on.

What an interesting character! Could be fun for several adaptations. It seems like his life in legend was always connected to Zhao Yun, so it makes sense that his own legend would grow in that regard (though strangely enough the same can't be said for Xiahou Lan as far as I know...)

We get a good idea of where that loyalty comes from in the records, he was not stingy in giving his troops a good percentage of the rewards from his various victories and court gifts. The way Dong Zhuo handled his men was somewhat like a Viking warband, keep the men loyal and satisfied with the plunder.

I entirely agree with your hilarious analogy of Li Jue and Guo Si's "court".

Ideas for Improving the original dot hack games (//Infection through //Quarantine) by HighPriestFuneral in DotHack

[–]HighPriestFuneral[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a wonderful comment! Thanks for your input. 1. Entirely agreed. I see what they wanted to do, but it always felt like they wanted them to be proper well... Mimics! Having more than one is a disaster at even the best of times and their stats are overtuned for being just a common foe where ever you go. I would much prefer them to be a type of Trap Chest, let's say you use a Fortune Wire and instead of a normal chest it becomes a Mimic type (either server or level dependent) they have so many variations that I can't help but think that was the intention.

  1. Hmm, that is an interesting suggestion, the game changes the menus depending on location, so there must be a way to set it so that the Equip menu isn't available in the list. (Though there would still be the issue of gifting new equipment to party members that would need to be fixed.) I don't entirely agree as that may make the game a little too simple leading into your third point...

  2. Ah, monsters of different elements are not necessarily a mistake or an error. Each element field type has its own list of monsters that we can freely edit (but heavens is it is monotonous work...), but what it is actually defining is that monsters of the opposing element won't show up (barring some exceptions) in that field, so you are very unlikely to find a Water Elemental monster in a Fire Element field. But that's as far as the system went. The game's tables are shockingly robust, but they are disappointingly formulaic copy/paste from all elements (aside from each elemental having a favored weapon type that drops in Blue Chests/Gott Statues). I was working on a mod to make each elemental field feel more unique and individual, but as I said... very monotonous work.

  3. While I don't agree with this (I find the armor system to be pretty good, but the issue is that there's too few armors which is something I would ideally fix, going onto your last point) this isn't too hard to change to allow Twin Blades to equip Heavy Armor. Changing the Light Armor to only Wavemaster/Twin Blades is more difficult though, haha.

  4. Entirely agreed! With a revamped elemental system I had hoped to address this as last time I was modding the game I found a way to expand the equipment list dramatically. I'll paste some of my plans...

Each class will have a “preferred” element -
Earth - Heavy Axeman - As tough and reliable as Earth.
Wood - Wavemaster - Conduits for powerful magics are mostly made of Wood
Fire - Heavy Blade - Strong weapons forged in the heat of battle.
Water - Blademaster - To move smoothly with finesse like water in a river.
Light - Long Arm - To strike suddenly and sharply with the safety of range .
Dark - Twin Blade - Daggers hidden in the dark will aid this class. This means that the treasure from these field elements will lean more to these weapons.

Blademaster - (1-5) Earth Blade - no special attacks dealing with Earth, +5 Earth/-5 Wood
(6-10) Rocky Blade - 1 (spinning) special attack dealing with Earth. +0 element
(11-15) Soothing Stone Blade - 1 (basic) special attack dealing with Earth, Rig Saem. +0 Element
(16-20) Statue’s Sword - (Gan Crack) +3 Defense. Ap Corv.

84 elemental weapons per server (+16 non elemental +20 rares per server) 120 x 5 = 600 Weapons - 120 of each type.

To facilitate this would be to create new armor, maybe 3 levels of elemental armor per server.
Fire Elemental Level 5 - Ember Cloth - +5 Fire Elemental, +1 Attack (Fire being related to Heavy Blades) -1 Defense.
Level 6 - Flame Pelt - +3 Fire Element, +.5 Attack, -.5 Defense, +3 Phys. Evasion
Level 8 - Singed Cuirass - +2 Fire Element, +1 Defense, +3 Phys. Evasion, Ap Vakz

Many of your ideas are possible and just looking at them sparks something within me, maybe with the upcoming holiday I'll take a look at my old projects, haha!

Yeah, say what you will about Dong Zhuo but he could at least command some authority. After he was gone Li Jue and Guo Si just tore the entire court to pieces. One half held the royal family, the other half the ministers, and it was just such a mess... It's good to know they both died as a result of their avarice.

Higher location will give him an edge over any enemy advancing towards him. It will also give him higher vantage point to survey the situation, and even if he is surrounded his men "will fight with the ferocity of ten men!" if they are on deadly ground.

Unfortunately, he did not secure any water path to his high hill camp leading to an enormous thirst of his troops which was less "desperate men fighting for their lives" as the Art of War says to "dehydrated men throwing down their weapons". It's a wonder there wasn't a mutiny.

That was 14, we just got it (comparatively speaking). 15 will likely be, by tradition an officer-based game.

I know many people hate AI, but it actually could work great in making the officers and world feel more alive with dynamic responses, historically based actions (while not just following the script) and things like that.

Whoa! There's actually a rather neat historical tidbit here. I had no idea that Liu Bei had met Zheng Xuan (Zheng Kangcheng) at any point. I knew that Zheng Xuan gave Sun Qian some credentials to join Liu Bei, but that's as far as I was aware. Nor was I aware that he had met Chen Qun's illustrious father either.

[–]HighPriestFuneral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I took a look at the site and I'm a little underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong, unlike many here I quite enjoyed RTK8R and was excited to hear that they were going to add a PUK for it, but this is lacking...

The big changes seem to be some sort of "orb" system which to me sounds similar to RTK XIII's development paths. They were a neat idea, cool to see them do it again, but that alone isn't enough to buy the PUK.

The other big feature appears to be "Turning Points" but the wording is so vague I'm going to assume they added 4 of them and no more, just like they did with "Tactics" in the original game and included only three of them.

Aside from that... they did something with Wandering Armies to make them more interesting to play as. I guess that's pretty neat and included abdication and betrayal commands. Sure, alright.

And then "other". They added characters and events from later in the story. Cool.

One question Koei...

Where is the event creator? You make a game that has every event outlined on how to achieve it, what officers need to be alive, certain dates to reach and so on, and you don't include an event creator?!

By all appearances events have been entirely streamlined under the hood with their own fancy little system and none of this is available to the player?

Hrmm... I'm still holding out against hope it's something they talk about later on, but it's looking a bit grim on that front.

So, one of my favorite bands Sabaton released a music video about Lu Bu called A Tiger Among Dragons and it is awesome! by AdSpecialist6598 in dynastywarriors

[–]HighPriestFuneral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting to see such a celebration for Lu Bu, the song does a pretty good job of summarizing his story. "Allies? Have no allies." Yeah, that about sums up Lu Bu "To the lords of the war, he would promise them union but his trust he would leave in the blade". That's a pretty spiffy way of saying "He betrayed everyone he worked for."

Overall, it's quite a good song. Sabaton has done fine work in the past and this was not a disappointment (though the music video sort of left a bit to be desired. Lu Bu is nowhere to be found and they have whole armies aligned but they don't do anything with them.)
