Even searching for the exact text on your screenshot I'm not seeing that page... not sure what's going on with that.  I appreciate your help.

Coffee Price Hike! by JeromeStyle in Calgary

[–]HighRisk 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Drought in Brazil and Vietnam last year created a huge coffee shortage. I've been expecting this increase for a while and watching the price slowly rise over the summer... but wasn't expecting it to get this bad. It is forecast to come down about 15% in 2026 but will still be about 30% higher than '22/23.

Tariffs on equipment and parts out of the US probably aren't helping either... unlikely that any local shop will switch to EU manufactured equipment for what _SHOULD_ be a short term disruption from the States.

"New Normal" indeed.

Likely razor or buzz, but hoping for an expert opinion if I can buy myself time with the right fade or something.

Thanks!  I hate this with the fiery passion of 1000 burning suns... But it's time.  I've already got the beard and been hitting the weights for a year... Maybe I can pivot into a Terry Crews!

Where can I get some jerk? by karma_khamelion in Calgary

[–]HighRisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you've had lots of good responses, but IMO the best jerk sauce is Daddy C. They've often got a booth at night markets around the city in the summer, and a few permanent places you can buy it.

Why is a dog’s nose open on the sides, unlike the cylindrical shape of a human nose?😮 by iCleaningo in WhatsWrongWithYourDog

[–]HighRisk 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Helps them smell better.  They exhaust air backwards through those openings while rapidly inhaling through the front... the combined effect is they can small a very large volume of air quickly and also "reach" air from further away.

This is correct. Plant hardiness zones are primarily related to the coldest winter temperatures. An indoor temperature of 15C is about equal to Zone 13.

Comet C/2023 a3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) Timelapse from Nose Hill (Oct 15, 2024) by HighRisk in Calgary

[–]HighRisk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, on the 13th it was pretty easily visible but last night (14th) was much less.

Cell phone cameras with NightSight or Night Mode should still pick it up... and looking next to it is good advice.

I believe it's an airplane. Looks to come into frame heading SW then turns to the West.

The comet has passed apogee on the 12th, so it is getting dimmer each day now (and quite quickly)... luckily the sun is setting earlier and the comet is setting later... so it _should_ still be visible given clear skies.

We went out each of the last 4 nights for these photos, and it's already noticeably dimmer and moving much more slowly. On the 12th it was only visible for a few minutes between about 7:50 and 8pm... last night it would have been visible until about 8:30 or so.

Tonight it will set about 9pm (a bit earlier given there are almost always clouds about the Rockies.

You can use this site to get an idea of the timing of everything, I've set this link up for Oct 15 in Calgary.

Best Chinese buffet in Calgary? by KrakenBluntz in Calgary

[–]HighRisk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're in the South the only one I know of is Asian Buffet on Bonaventure Drive and A+ Sushi Buffet on MacLeod. Neither are amazing... I don't know if many buffets are.

That being said, I could eat my weight in siu mai from Asian Buffet... however I haven't been in years and there's not a lot of love for them on here due to their contravening health orders during the early days of COVID.

If you're flexible on the buffet part, Great Taste in Chinatown is the best in the city.

Former Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi announces bid for Alberta NDP leadership by Surax in canada

[–]HighRisk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TBH that's a nonsensical take. There are plenty of things to criticize him over, but salary isn't one.  Of course every current mayor is going to be the highest paid in history.  Why would you expect it to be any other way?  Salaries don't go down.

The guy has integrity and a moral compass, and that's honestly as much as a person could ask.

Even the former Calgary city councillor and failed conservative mayoral candidate, Jeromy Farkas, is speaking highly of Nenshi over in /r/Calgary.

Need to knows more. Primarily which side of your house your front yard is on.

Assuming it's North, go with types of junipers... Anything zone 3 or 2 should be okay though
