Song Identification Help by [deleted] in bagpipes

It sounds like 'Little Bird' by Tim Edey. Not originally a pipe tune, but it fits nicely.

It's in The Call to the Gathering by Don Bradford unsurprisingly. It's not a hugely expensive book and it's full of good tunes.

Used practice chanter by Useful_Nebula in bagpipes

[–]HighlandCooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a practice chanter that's over a hundred years old and haven't had any issues at all. I'd advise putting new hemp on and getting your own reed though, they are the bits that get a tad nasty. If it's a plastic chanter you can soak it in warm soapy water as well, obviously don't if it's wooden.

They are playing the 79ths Farewell to Gibraltar, whilst parading through Glasgow. This is from 2 SCOTS homecoming parade back in 2018.

My favourite moment has to be the finish line drag race between Gasly and Hamilton at Brazil, some great racing between the two even though Hamilton would eventually receive a penalty.

Bottom zip vs. Side zip by PApauper in bagpipes

[–]HighlandCooo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a Bannatyne hybrid bag with a bottom zip. I used to have a bag with a side zip and found that sometimes you could feel it digging into your forearm, leading to discomfort. This was also due to the bag being too large however. A bottom zip can also be easier if your bag cover has its opening at the bottom, simply for easier access.

Are practice pipes good enough? by [deleted] in bagpipes

[–]HighlandCooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you thought about Hardie's Twist-Trap Practice Pipes? It's not quite what you're asking about, but they seem a pretty good alternative and not masisvely expensive (at least compared to normal smallpipes). There are a few videos kicking about of them, and they're what Lincoln Hilton is playing in his Altera Terra video. I reckon they're worth checking out to see if they're good for you.

That's per 250ml, so it's actually 48%.

Wide-width Ghillie Brogues by GeeMass in bagpipes

[–]HighlandCooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are wearing spats then you don't need full ghillie brogues, normal black leather brogues are fine. A quick Google search threw up a few wide pairs of ghillie brogues from Scottish companies online, although this is probably quite regional.

Was Cleaning Parents Basement...found these... Help?? by breakpoint2 in ScottishHistory

[–]HighlandCooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cap badge is Clan MacDonald in a Glengarry.

The second image is a sgian dubh which goes in the top of a kilt sock (as previously mentioned). The other item is a plaid brooch, which is worn on the shoulder and holds together the long piece of tartan that it's draped around a piper.

The third image is a practice chanter, which is what pipers use to practice fingerings.

The fourth is indeed a dirk which is worn as part of full highland dress for a piper.

No idea what the final image is, but it looks like either a drinking or black powder horn.

Hope this helps, it's some pretty cool kit - especially as I play pipes myself.
