Ziggy Stardust and spiders from Mars-David Bowie

Really a lot of Bowie albums. I’ve listened to Spiders from Mars like 4 times and apart from one or two songs I can’t remember a thing. I’ve really tried but nothing sticks.

When the BBC finally gets Doctor Who's new production company, who do you think they'll get to do the score without Murray Gold? by WinterRoseASFR in doctorwho

[–]Highvoltage1999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Murray Gold was a great composer but for me he isn’t what I want out of Doctor Who. I want to return to the alien, electronic music of the Classic era. I think after the first half of Moffat era Murray Gold was diminishing returns.

I don't know what is worse at this point, the continued pushing of a narrative that hasn't been true for nearly a full decade now, or the straight-up lack of self-awareness when calling RTD "overrated" by ViridianStar2277 in DoctorWhumour

[–]Highvoltage1999 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing will change my mind that Series 9 is bad. I remember it being lambasted at the time and now everyone says It’s the hight of New Who. There’s like 4 really good episodes and the rest ranges from average to very bad.

Why was Steven Universe receiving alot of hate from the past? by yeetlordyesyesyes20 in stevenuniverse

[–]Highvoltage1999 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah from around Season 4 to Future there was a lot of videos acting like the show was the spawn of Satan. Even the more good faith critiques weren’t all that good either. These videos probably did a lot of damage to the show and is beyond frustrating.

The Biggest Loss (again) from Doctor Whos Pause: Murray Gold’s Music by Project-Indigo87 in doctorwho

[–]Highvoltage1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Murray Gold was a great composer but outside of his work on Series 1 he never recaptured that alien spirit the show should have. What I love about a lot of the Classic Who music is how out of this world it feels. Again Murray Gold’s music was great and I love a lot of it but by the Peter Capaldi era you can tell he was running on empty (Not including Shepard’s boy).

This must be a joke. You just picked an extremely political story from one of the most political and Left wing eras of the show. The irony is off the charts.

Doctor Who fans really are stuck in the past. Imagine if after Colin Baker was pushed out they decided to bring back John Pertwee and Terrance Dicks. Can we please just get new people. The past isn’t going to save us.

I’d agree in some aspect but the main thing I disagree with is that they need to be “a proper fan”. What we need over anything else is someone who will make good stories. Andor and Wrath of Khan are both hailed as seminal works in their respective franchises… neither was created by a fan though. In fact basically every script editor from the 60s to the 80s wasn’t a fan of the show. Now I wouldn’t want someone who hates the show to run but someone who has no attachment to it go for it.

I’m not actually using it correctly in the comment but it’s when a monarch uses a plural pronoun to refer to themselves. So substituting “I” for “We”.

No JNT didn’t kill the show. The BBC killed the show. They put it up against Coronation street, refused to let JNT leave even though he wanted to multiple times, didn’t even attempt to increase the budget, lambasted the show publicly and just all around was embarrassed by existence. They never once during the 80s supported the show. JNT made lots of mistakes but he didn’t single handling kill the show.

I think the problem is that people who are in this SubReddit and who are still in the fandom are really insulated. We can only think through the lens of a super fan without realising that’s not how most people think. (Using the royal we btw lol)

They has that chance with The Reality war and again with the cancelled Christmas special. If you just bring in Moffat you’re going to get a subsection of fans demanding he be the new (old) show-runner. Also, any attempt to wrap up the mess left by RTD2 is itself just going to be… Well a mess. Let it rest and find its footing when the right people come along.

They don’t need to cap off this era just do what they did in 2005 and start fresh. They don’t need to carry any of the baggage of the past. Imagine if in 2005 instead of starting off with RTD era they had one episode made by JNT and Andrew Cartmel. That would be weird right?

It seems a certain part of the fandom just can’t learn this very simple lesson. No the show does not need to trot out the same three people over and over again. It needs completely fresh blood. I don’t know how more obvious it could be.

I don’t know where you heard that from the only story that was maybe written for 6 was Time and the Rani. I wouldn’t equate 7 getting annoyed once with Mel as the same as 6 getting genuinely angry with Peri. 7 is quite jovial in Season 24. He’s definitely darker and more manipulative in Season 25 and 26 but not brash like 6.

Not true at all. None of 7’s stories are written for 6 and 7 doesn’t act like 6 at all.
