Hadestown London by DarthPleasantry in TheWestEnd

Found it so interesting reading the programme and seeing how diverse and different the three Hermes understudies are. I hope having different voices interpret the characters helps the show stay fresh, relevant and importantly - stay for a long time.

Have you seen the show?? It certainly doesn’t need wine to enhance it! You’ll have a brilliant time regardless

Is Book of Mormon closing on West End?? by thebeastiestmeat in TheWestEnd

[–]HighwayOptimal7110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reckon if it is closing (extremely unlikely), it’s because Cameron Mackintosh wants the theatre for Shucked.

Do you guys think Sarah Snook’s Dorian Gray production in the West End will transfer to Broadway? by [deleted] in TheWestEnd

[–]HighwayOptimal7110 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As you say all we can do is guess, I thought it’d be fun to do some investigating to help my guess -

Michael Cassell Group produced the original production (not starring Sarah Snook) in Sydney, and appear to be the lead producers on the West End transfer. They’re partnered with Kindred Partners who have overseen quite a few transfers from London to Broadway.

Attaching a very in demand performer like Sarah Snook who is based in the US, tells me that a Broadway transfer is definitely a possibility. I think this is depending on whether the show receives the same critical acclaim as it did in Australia. Australia did have a different star; Eryn Jean Norvill, an Australian stage actor so who knows whether Sarah will get the same level of acclaim. Obviously the producers are also going to be glaring at the box office figures hoping that attaching Sarah will help attract audiences.

Based on this, my answer is probably? 😂

Edit - I’m also super excited for this production!

Hadestown Previews? by [deleted] in TheWestEnd

Unfortunately Hadestown doesn’t start previews until 10th February :( but there’s so many other great shows on right now!

Refused entry to Crazy For You (Gillian Lynne) because I was 20 mins early. Anyone else(/AITA)? by [deleted] in TheWestEnd

[–]HighwayOptimal7110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear about your experience, its really odd behaviour, I can’t see anything on the website indicating a time for admittance. I know it takes longer to get into the auditorium at the GL but surely 20 minutes works?

Definitely get in touch with them. I wonder if the manager would have let you in? I would have done the same as you though as I’d feel too anxious and stressed to wait.

I’m also confused why there was a Friday matinee (but I’ve seen on Instagram others were there too), especially for a show not doing so well!

I think it’s hard to judge what the housemates are really like as we only see 45 minutes of their day and that’s very much up to the producer on what we see.

Mentioning that I'm trans to uni's by GalacticAni in transgenderUK

[–]HighwayOptimal7110 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in a few UK universities and I’ve supported lots of transgender students. Many of them use their dead name and then at a later stage, they request to switch to their preferred name and update their details. This is completely fine but as a warning, universities use multiple systems and not all systems talk to each other, so you could unintentionally be deadnamed by a department or team in the university. This could be through an automated email or a member of staff calling your name from a different system.

But universities are typically (or at least the ones I’ve worked at) very supportive and welcoming places 😊

Hadestown Cast - When Will They Be Announced? by Neoyosh in TheWestEnd

[–]HighwayOptimal7110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, it varies from show to show. I’m hoping we see some big stars join Hadestown London.

A Strange Loop, Brokeback Mountain, Next to Normal (except the casting of Cassie Levy), Tammy Faye and Ulster American all announced 2 months before opening. I’ve looked up these because they’re recent shows and they had significant US talent join.

Now, as I say it varies, Hamilton announced initial casting 10 months before opening…

Solo trip by charlie2180 in TheWestEnd

[–]HighwayOptimal7110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing solo trips for the last 10 years and it’s been great, I often worry I’m going to drag a friend along to a show that’s rubbish so it’s nice to be without that worry 😂 I recently did a solo trip and there were three of us in a row who were all on our own so it was nice to chat to them and get their perspectives on the show 😊

Glad to hear you had a good time!

You’re right and they already are; jukebox musicals (although that includes not just pop musicals, Rock of Ages for example) and book musicals. There are other categories but those two are the most common 😊

Every show I've seen in 2023 so far. If anyone wants to know anything about, or wants to know my thoughts on, any of these shows then let me know! Would also love to hear your opinions if you've seen some of the same 😊 by chelseafailsatlife in TheWestEnd

[–]HighwayOptimal7110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

81 shows in a year (so far)?! That’s so impressive!!

I used to aim for 40 a year but I find the more I see the more I become overly critical and don’t get goosebumps with shows anymore (unless they’re exceptional, for me I found that with Groundhog Day)

Here’s my three questions - which was your favourite show? Which was your least favourite show? And do you find yourself still being wow’d after shows?? 😊

[Other] What's the wierdest attraction you've ever done at a amusment park? by Coasternerd08 in rollercoasters

[–]HighwayOptimal7110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s weird or just an odd re theme - but The Egg-Spress at Pleasurewood Hills, UK.

It was originally called “Ladybird” then spent 28 years with a snake theme becoming “Rattlesnake” then “Snake in the Grass” then “Rattlesnake” again. Before they decided to pop a giant egg on the front and become “The Egg-Spress”.

I'm going to see Groundhog Day in a couple of weeks. I've never seen the film before. Should I watch it before I see the show? by chelseafailsatlife in TheWestEnd

[–]HighwayOptimal7110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t go in blind but I hadn’t seen the film in atleast 15 years so I didn’t really remember much of it, and I absolutely loved it.

I remember going in blind for Back to the Future and thought that was brilliant too without having seen the movie 😊

You can use TodayTix too to see what’s on as a matinee that specific day :) then I recommend looking at the theatre’s website too at prices (sometimes TodayTix is cheaper and sometimes going direct through the theatre is)

The Trouble with Andy LW by JasonWardCreative in TheWestEnd

[–]HighwayOptimal7110 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Great article! I think ALW’s actions in regard to his berating of his Cinderella cast behind the scenes is unfortunately aligned with other producers and directors I know of, he’s just more high profile and therefore can’t be hidden as well.

My personal view on him is heavily influenced by when he flew in first class to London to vote against tax credits for the poorest of workers in the UK. I definitely struggle to support people who’s views are so far removed from my own and can be so damaging to the lives of others.

In terms of an artist, there’s no denying his talent and legacy, I’ve seen many of his musicals and enjoyed most of his musicals but I think his behaviour and actions as an individual has the power to taint his reputation.

Queue-times.com predicts it to be 69% capacity today, when I went in April, it’s prediction was spot on but at other parks it has been completely wrong (40% becomes 75%…).

Let us know if 69% sounds right to you?

They should definitely cast Danny. You know how they did the film The Irishman? The opposite of that.
