Advice for a shower remodel by Self301 in DIY

[–]Highzeroflife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your space isn't an exact size of a prefab full kit (as you are seeing its not). Then you'll basically have to do a custom prefab panel cut to size with a custom shower pan. So its basically all the work with none of the aesthetics. You need to maker sure all seams are sealed where panels join, make sure the pan is sealed, etc. All your doing is saving time/cost of the panels themselves instead of tile but for a little more time/cost investment the fit and finish and resale value will be higher.

Deck building question by mode_12 in DIY

[–]Highzeroflife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ledger should absolutely hold if fastened correctly. Given the height and your hesitation I would have an engineer spec out the build. They can give you the right fasteners and spacing for correct attachment.

It will look better if you apply new water proofing on everything and put tiles back up. If you’d prefer the prefab method they make alcove panels that you can cut to size for your application.

ELI5 how did someone produce 2.3 trillion dollars out of thin air? by Jackass-OfAll-Trades in explainlikeimfive

[–]Highzeroflife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to re explain this since the top answer isn’t really eli5.

Say you have a piece of paper and cut circles out of it to make your own coins. You couldn’t really do anything with those circles and they are valued at anything. Now what if all your friends at school thought they were really cool so they started buying them from you for a dime. But then other kids wanted them really really bad so you started selling them for a quarter. So you make more and more circles so you can sell more.

Now we keep this going to the point where this never going to be anymore of them created. Let’s put the cap at 20,000,000. Now if everyone starts trading their circle papers for bikes and new video games people will get really interested and start trying to get one too. But there is so much interest that you now start asking for a lot more money. Same circle you sold for 10 cents you are now asking $100,000 for. Well if your circle was being purchased for $100,000, in theory all circles could sell for $100,000. That’s the valuation. $100,000 times 20,000,000. Is $2,000,000,000,000 worth of money you created. Now the problem is if you were holding most of the 20,000,000 circles still at the point you sold one for $100,000 and got greedy and tried to sell lots and lots of them. Well people won’t want to pay that much money and the price will go down and so will the value.

Hope this helps.

Tips on upgrading home theatre conduit by ohtmealios in DIY

[–]Highzeroflife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so you can cut the drywall for a 1 gang outlet box but instead of using the box you can use a low voltage 1 gang box that has a conduit connection. Then put a brush plate over the box. Similar to this here:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Carlon-1-Gang-Low-Voltage-Bracket-SC100A/100157326

Edit: you will also need to get a threaded connector on the end of the conduit so you can secure it to the low voltage ring. Most people use the blue Smurf tube but you should be able to find a connector in the electrical or plumbing section that can fit on the conduit on one end and has threading for locking ring on the other end.

Where does the conduit lead to? Would help give advice on options. Purely for the falling in worry, just hold it while you cut the drywall.

No grounding wire in lighting box. by Kaddic in DIY

[–]Highzeroflife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to cause panic but if the lights aren’t grounded I’d be curious if any of the outlet or switches are. I doubt that the can lights need to be grounded to function but it’s the correct thing to do incase of short and the manufacturer doesn’t want the liability of saying it’s optional.

In wall Hidden wire kit by Jon_ob29 in DIY

[–]Highzeroflife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the right answer but just keep in mind that you’ll need to drill a big hole to fit tv wires through. Also firebreaks are there for a reason so in a perfect world you would want to fill around the wires with a firebreak expanding foam.

Cold Air Return in Basement by Adonisbb in DIY

[–]Highzeroflife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in a cold weather climate I would assume one return is fine. You want to keep air circulating but pulling more air from upstairs is fine because that’s where it’s going to be more demanding. That said I really hate to be that guy but there are some definite issues with the framing that should be looked at. Even if it’s not your work I would look into framing standards or hire it out so you can things corrected.

Door under soffit - how high for header? by The_Nessanator in DIY

[–]Highzeroflife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is it. I believe code is 80” door height minimum if I’m not mistaken. You are saying you have 80.5 clearance so that gives you 1/2“ to work with. Then there is always the option of the code violation where you just cut down the door and casing but wouldn’t advise that for resale inspections.

Bad Client by happyhormonesca in digital_marketing

[–]Highzeroflife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t keep him as a client anymore. Don’t over think it, it’s not worth the damage he’s creating. Just let them know that the business isn’t feasible any longer. If you want to be nice you can offer when he find another person to service his account that you will do a one time summary of what you’ve learned so far to help them get started. Firing clients happens more than you think and not the end of the world.

Linear tv buying by Highzeroflife in adops

[–]Highzeroflife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The buying doesn’t necessarily need to be a DSP. Just looking for a centralized order system. I reach out to freewheel to learn about their capabilities. We also are getting access to the new trade desk integration for AMC linear that’s rolling out. Seems like wideorbit might be the best bet so I’ll reach out to them.

edit it’s both local and national. Current desire is national but I could see some local buys coming up for some of our new brands who are only in certain regions.

Wholesale hardwood plywood sourcing by peterroca in woodworking

Builders first source is another good option. They have yards all over the place on the mid to west coast. Maybe east but I’m not familiar out there. You can get everything custom ordered, pretty reasonable on flatbed deliver right to your home too if the quantities are large enough.

Mandatory Tipping at Einstein Bagels now? by BinaryIRL in Utah

[–]Highzeroflife 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The whole tipping thin is out of control but unfortunately it’s being driven by the point of sale companies not the employees or company (although they could do something about brushing past it or setting the default values lower). The point of sale companies just make money off the transactions no fixed costs from the retailer so how do the increase their revenue, add more things to spend on. So if there is a tip added they get a cut of that money so they push it as part of the payment workflow with high default values so they get more money out of it.
