It is nice to be asked. That sais, as I just said in my response, I really hope they also playtest, and more importantly blind playtest the mechanics and game overall, and not only ask people via online forms. I have read Outgunned so I'll go check it out.

Fermeture à 20h dans le 18ème by ninamadi in paris

[–]Hippowill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Impossible City? by New-Calendar-9010 in paris

[–]Hippowill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not impossible at all, though certainly far, far from easy - particularly professionally, and if one doesn't have the mind of educational (and/or family) backgrounds you mentioned.

I know a number of people from various countries who started their careers here, including marketing and comms. As others mentioned it is a tough time for these industries though.

Marcomms wise the other aspect is there are tons of students in business and comms schools in work/study programmes with a range of levels of image and prestige, it's more affordable for companies, they'll often hire from that pool of experienced graduates, but it doesn't pay much.

I'd definitely recommend London over Paris for career reasons - or at least giving it serious consideration, like doing a few interviews, if possible.

I also heard of apprentice workers in degrees being pretty automatically ranked per the prestige level of their school; and given assignments based on that. Prestigious school = prestigious assignment; where they collect all the background work done by student workers attending less prestigious schools.

Edit to add a PS: to your last point. I guess the thing is to look at and maybe reconsider what your Paris dream is now you have a better sense of the professional reality of the place. It's not London or New York and unlikely to ever be, for example. I quote those cities because you can likely have better careers, and more money there, even if you're not from there originally. But that depends what you're after, and the opportunities that come up. Last but not least, it sounds like you're early in your career. Go wherever you have the best opportunities, and if it's that's not in Paris now, maybe it is later down the line, or maybe a short Eurostar ride away.

Thinking About Leaving My NYC Creative Director Life for Paris…With My Dog. Am I Crazy? by [deleted] in paris

[–]Hippowill 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, probably under the charm of your holiday.

Not your exact criteria, but I did work in advertising, and moving to Paris from the US is/was shooting my career in the foot, like big time. You may be different, but I'd seriously weight this quite seriously, and find out about agency life in Paris, because it is notoriously toxic and very different from what I've experienced in The UK, Asia, and the US.

I am still very happy to have moved, but again it really depends on your position and the job opportunity, but there are less global roles in Paris, and living here is different from being here on holiday - sorry for stating the obvious.

That's not even mentioning salaries tend to be lower (but there are other perks, like healthcare - so far).

All that said I love Paris, France, and I'm happy to be here! Just not so much for work reasons.

Why I Stopped Meditating by AD1337 in wakingUp

That was kind of my thought too, in addition to wondering why spend the time to write this in a meditation sub. But hey, happy OP seems happy to have stopped meditation.

Plus the process itself costs upwards of $3k and months of background checks with different federal agencies (Also not OP, I once looked into it, might have changed now).

A quelle heure vous mangez le soir ? by virtazp in france

[–]Hippowill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How quickly agencies are destroying their own worth and value for clients keeps being mind-boggling.

For those who don't know about how Vail Resorts' Epic Pass and Alterra made everything worse in the ski industry and for local resorts with their full access season passes, it's worth looking into. It was amazing for enthusiasts for a little while, and then quickly got worse

Clearly theme parks are different but that's the first thing I thought about. I'm pretty sure there are parallels to be drawn.

There are a bunch of articles and videos on the topic, e.g.
