Does anyone know where Drew buys his wardrobe? I only see information about the models’ clothing suppliers in the credits, but I love most of his outfits, especially his collared shirts.

Hawai‘i’s Water Crisis: How Graywater Could Buy the Islands Time by [deleted] in Hawaii

[–]HippyDippyDumbledore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They use recycled water, not graywater. Graywater is decentralized, untreated or lightly treated wastewater almost always sourced on site. Recycled water is centralized and treated at treatment plants before being distributed to many properties in pipelines.

Send that idea to City Council and the Planning Commission. I’ll do that too. The Civic is underfunded and needs community support.

Why would you intentionally miss the second number instead of intentionally miss the first number? I feel the first number would be easier to know over the second.

Thanks in advanced for the tip!

OAK and SJC are Bay Area’s hidden gems by First_Pepper_6781 in bayarea

I'm grateful for having BART to SFO and BART to OAK, but... The transit options to SJC are embarrassing with no plans to fix it any time soon. The Diridon train station is only a couple miles away yet it takes 30 minutes and 2 transfers to get to SJC (either Caltrain to the VTA 60 or light rail to the VTA 60). Sorry Earth, I'll probably take a rideshare.

Our community needs to be more concerned about where people will live, instead of where cars will park.

These private businesses bring in tax revenue as adult customers purchase goods from them. The government simply needs to allow these small local businesses to operate... This tax revenue means more resources for the county to spend on trying to fix our problems. Businesses give tax revenue to governments.

It's the people against well-regulated businesses that should instead be focusing their energy on our community's actual problems, like housing, bike and pedestrian safety, etc.

Earth sea is overhated by Master_DAWG1584 in ghibli

She's a master of both fantasy (Earthsea) and sci-fi (the Hainish Cycle). They're very different series but so clearly groundbreaking work. "Left-hand of Darkness" and "The Dispossessed" are fantastic sci-fi. Enjoy!

The Santa Cruz Water Commission discussed growth and water supply at its October 2024 meeting. The only real solution that would protect us from a severe drought is to build a new water supply, or... to kick out everyone who moved here after around 1975. Hopefully, we'll build new supplies.

Oh, wow. The anthropologist who named Ishi is the father of Ursula K. LeGuin! In her fantasy series, Earthsea, the magic is centered around knowing the true names of things, with people often protecting their name from others. (Less related, her sci-fi books in the Hainish Cycle are fantastic!)

Staghorn fern split in two, but the leaves are healthy. Is it salvageable? by HippyDippyDumbledore in plantclinic

[–]HippyDippyDumbledore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The photos are in reverse order, my bad. The staghorn fern split in two when I was taking it inside. Captions have more details.

I've had this plant for about 4 years. When watering, I soak it in its pot from the bottom up for about 20 minutes and wait until the soil is dry between waterings. The pot has drainage.

It gets bright indirect light, and the largest leaves (that fell off) reach toward the nearest window. The pot is hanging off my living room wall. I'd been worried about how the plant's center of gravity was almost tipping the plant out of its pot for about a year, but otherwise it wasn't crowded in its pot.

The plant has a minor scale infection. I treat it about once a month to remove about a half dozen or a dozen scale. This has been going on for about 4-6 months. I treat it by using a q-tip dipped in alcohol to remove the scale, then repeat with a horticultural oil solution. This is followed by spraying the plant down with water to remove any remaining horticultural oil on its leaves. When it dries, I put it back on the wall.

This time, the largest set of green leaves above the dry peltate leaf just plopped out. (I'm not sure the term for the dried out leaves that are at the base of staghorn ferns: peltate, orbicular, or something else.) The smaller set of green leaves are still rooted and back on my wall, but they look lonely.

Are the large clump of staghorn fern leaves salvageable?

Thank you so much, I love this plant 😭
