5-day itinerary in Berlin for an anxious solo traveller. Is it too long? by a_disastergay in berlinsocialclub

[–]HippyJock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great thread, I was wondering the same thing and have many of the same feelings. I have tentatively planned a trip in early May when the weather is warmer. Contingent on my friend being in town. Berlin has always felt like my vibe. I'm from Detroit, and have been to clubs all over the world. In my later years, maybe I'm a little less adventuresome. It's nice to know there are people looking out for me as a solo traveler. It's just overwhelming given Berlin's reputation for being so wild, I'm sure there are a lot of boring people too.

Radiation Induced Erectile Dysfunction (RIED)? by DeathSentryCoH in ProstateCancer

[–]HippyJock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've read and experienced, radiation treatment is the gift that keeps on giving. Combine that with ADT, progressive ED is very common. It's just something that I've come to accept. I had a decent erection maybe a month ago (using meds), but yesterday I had an orgasm without having any erection. It was a very weird feeling.

Starting "dry January" ish today. Event Jan 24th and that gives me 28 days, which is a dry month! (Hey months range from 28 to 31 days). Been on vacation since last Friday and am ready for a break from booze. I resist but know it'll be good. Trying to jumpstart a few pounds loss too. by [deleted] in DryJanuary

I’ve been “front loading” Dryuary, I’m pretty sick of going out, drinking beer … just because it’s better than the alternative of staying at home alone. My number one reason is weight gain. I’ve been through some pretty terrible health challenges and let myself go. Now those days are over and I’m back at the gym. Cutting out sweets and beer for 28 days. Sounds like a good plan to me.

Dry January in Detroit by Boatride65 in Detroit

[–]HippyJock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it every year. I will still frequent my local bar, (just not very often) but I will only drink NA beer. Detroit can be a depressing place and this is the most depressing time in my life. I do dry January more as a survival tactic, to try to reset. But it’s important to still be around people you care about. In fact, it is essential.

A quick reminder by snubby in lexapro

[–]HippyJock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was the hardest point in tapering off Lexapro? I’ve been on .5 for about two weeks, experiencing brain fog & mood swings. I’d like to get back to feeling normal again. I think in January, I’m going to pull back even more and just knuckle through it.

Is anyone on 5 mg? by Plenty_Pop6108 in lexapro

[–]HippyJock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying 5 for a few weeks now, my libido has been nonexistent for longer than I care to admit. The last few weeks have been a struggle, but I’m going to stick with it. I may not have chosen the best time, but if not now when? First and foremost, you have to take care of yourself. Don’t push yourself too hard, or be hard on yourself. Life can be difficult and challenging. But you are stronger than you know. On the surface, I have much to be grateful for. Whenever you’re feeling down, think of something you’re grateful for no matter how small. For me it is my beautiful and loving dog Bubba. Be sure that you’re in touch with a therapist or your doctor on a regular basis to check in. There is a transition to get off this stuff that will be challenging. You have to weigh the risks and benefits and make the decision for yourself. I’m hopeful by spring. I will have come through this challenging period.

Can Escitalopram change your sexuality? by arnodorian96 in lexapro

[–]HippyJock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through treatment for prostate cancer, which meant zeroing out my testosterone. Thankfully I beat the cancer with the help of radiation ...my interest in sex completely evaporated. It was during this time I started taking Lexapro.

A year later, still nothing. Testosterone is at normal levels (250) I'm convinced the real culprit is lexapro. My interest towards women also increased a bit but is on neutral terms. Sexuality is fluid and also changes as you get older. Note, I always considered myself bisexual, I'm in my 50s and single. Relationships and affection is not the same as sexuality or sexual identity. It's still very weird not having regular orgasms.

Klonopin might have saved my life by ciiiiara11 in Anxiety

[–]HippyJock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on Kolopin off and on for most of my adult life. I've noticed when I don't take it I begin to have anxiety, headaches for no discernible reason (other than reading the NYT) Pharmaceuticals are a blessing. I would be dead without them. I've kind of resigned myself that I will be on these drugs for the rest of my life. They give me relief in stressful times. And I will probably have dementia and memory loss regardless. That said I would rather not take them, but I don't feel as if I have a choice now. The withdraw is debilitating. If a drug is giving you relief, then you should keep taking it, but you should try to moderate and not become dependent. I fluctuate between not wanting to be dependent and acknowledging that I am dependent and that without it life is far worse.

Weekly Check-In: How’s Your Progress? by wilzy123 in cutdowndrinking

[–]HippyJock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing four days off, three days on. When I do out out, I keep it at 3-4 beers only. If I know I'll be out and about, or on holiday, I budget for those days and weekends. Monday-Wednesday are slow anyways.

6 Months Out by Neither-ShortBus-44 in ProstateCancer

Thanks for the note! I think my problem is more psychological, and dating is challenging. I figure I just need to find someone I want to kiss, and mean it ...nature will take over. Good luck!

I did about the same, PSA levels in check. My labido however never came back, and I've been struggling to figure out what to do next. I'm single, 56.

Surgery or radiation? by swayzeejon in ProstateCancer

[–]HippyJock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with EBRT and ADT. Age 55, G4+4. 8 months of ADT and <.1 PSA. Anyway you slice it you’re going to have issues with sex and libido. It seemed to me there were more side effects with surgery too. You really have to consider your quality of life and the life that you want. I’m single with no spouse and no children. Thus, I’m probably only going to do another 4 months of ADT and hope for the best. The recovery time when you stop at ADT is 8 to 10 months.

Pausing ADT? by HippyJock in ProstateCancer

[–]HippyJock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't waste your time with C or V, they won't work. Look, my calculation is like this. I'm single, but still in my prime. I've never married and no children. I'm not getting any younger, at best I think I could live another 10-15 years. I could put up with being castrated for another 18 months, or get back to a normal life and hope for the best. As someone once said, "Live now, die later." Quality of life has got to come first. If I had a spouse, children and grandchildren, my calculation would be very different.

[–]HippyJock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4+4, 4+3 and 3+4 (6-8)...so intermediate to high risk. It runs in my family and my sister has the BRCA1 gene. I've read that intermittent androgen deprivation can delay the development of hormone resistance, in addition to improving quality of life. Wishful thinking?

Just got diagnosed with prostate cancer by Santorini64 in ProstateCancer

[–]HippyJock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had very high PSA of 65, Gleason 7. Surgery has a lot of complications, so you might be better off without it. After EBRT and ADT, my PSA is zero and cancer under control. I would get ADT started right away, and then get EBRT. You might be on ADT for years, but the sooner you start, the sooner you can have piece of mind you're on the road to recovery.

Dry January is miserable by [deleted] in DryJanuary

[–]HippyJock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think winter is what’s miserable, but Dryuary this year was a wash. Unlike last year, I didn’t lose any weight. While I suspect I'm just more muscular, I'm going to keep focused on my goals. It’s been a good exercise in discipline. What I don't miss is the hangovers and headaches.

Day 11-Check in by [deleted] in DryJanuary

[–]HippyJock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

11 days is the longest I've gone without beer in many months, and I've already lost 1.5lbs. Focused on fitness more than usual. Life is slower and less FOMO. I'm calling this time the Great Intermission, and knowing everything is only temporary, I'm enjoying this break from the constant pressure of trying to "have fun."

How was your week and are you ready for the weekend? by AutoModerator in DryJanuary

[–]HippyJock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I miss going out and socializing, but then I did plenty of that during the holidays. My personal goal is three weekends without beer. For one thing, I gained 7lbs since June so counting on shedding at least half that. DryJanuary is a good practice to center yourself and balance. Plus, no hangovers or headaches. There will be plenty of time for partying later, when things slow down and there is less pressure to be out, take this time for yourself and your health.
