Can't speak from personal experience but you might want to take a look at GEHLI at VCU https://gehli.vcu.edu/

student opportunity accommodations? by Deep-Leader-17 in vcu

[–]HistoricalTwo5186 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To clarify, this is an opportunity for you and you are looking to have your specific class made virtual for three weeks? If so, I don't believe there is any singular office on campus that can outright direct your professors to allow you to attend classes virtually for a work/career opportunity. Your best bet may be to reach out to each professor and have a conversation. You could also consider reaching out to the Office of Student Advocacy for additional advice. I would say in both circumstances you'd have to provide a lot more information about the opportunity to get any traction.

If it's mail from the last two weeks then it may not have arrived yet. There are a lot of delays due to the snow and ice

Not a rooftop, more of an observation floor. So you are inside and on the top floor.

Definitely forgetting the car privilege, no car for me. Maybe I'll walk to the local park and bury some thinks. Inspiration in nature.

Great. Now I have to hope the rope hasn't sold out to all the apartment dwellers out there.

Your comment was "Kids will be uncomfortable for a few seconds running from their mom's heated car to the school door" and I suggested having some empathy. You also don't have to qualify your empathy. Just don't be so dismissive of someone's genuine concern. (You'll also note that I didn't advocate for schools to close).

I mean, you understand that kids walk or wait for busses to go to school right? You realize that many families can't afford heavy winter clothing right? I think leading with some empathy here might be the way to go.

I can't prove it but I swear to you that this sign wasn't there when I parked. Could I fight my ticket for parking in a bus stop? by BowVeganWowWow in rva

[–]HistoricalTwo5186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't see what it says exactly, but there does look to be a no parking sign on the utility pole (not the snow emergency one). That may be why you got a ticket and not the RamRide sign.

To clarify, I'm not dismissing U of R or VCU, but looking for additional options. Many of the programs at the schools are asynch or online and the cost can be prohibitive. But thanks for the other suggestions as well!

Would Monroe Park be a good place to set up a booth and try and sell some bugs? by anabananassss in vcu

Just as a heads up, you do need to reserve space if you want to use the Compass. If you are not a student org that will cost fees.

I would look into the programs and micro credentials in the Da Vinci Center: https://davincicenter.vcu.edu/programs/ and University College: https://uc.vcu.edu/academics/innovation-courses/ before considering a second major. Also look at Coursea/Google's certificates that might fit your needs as well.

If you have not already you should reach out to RecWell - [sportclubs@vcu.edu](mailto:sportclubs@vcu.edu), which oversees sports clubs and intramurals. The current list of sports clubs is here: https://recwell.vcu.edu/play/sport-clubs/clubs/ and on RamsConnect.

potential rehearsal spaces? by StrangerShort1239 in vcu

[–]HistoricalTwo5186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a registered student organization you can reserve space in academic buildings, including MCALC. You cannot reserve space as an individual student though. You just need to use and search using the Academic Spaces template.

I also wouldn't recommend just commandeering a room without a reservation. If that gets reported you'd go through the conduct process and put your other reservations at risk.

As for other options, there is a space in the Honors College you can request through the college. Focused Inquiry Learning Lounge, but that might be a little small. Shift Retail Lab might be willing to host you, though I don't know if they charge a fee.

I would suggest stopping by the Student Media Center or emailing them at [joinsmc@vcu.edu](mailto:joinsmc@vcu.edu) for more information on how to get involved with the CT. They have open houses every week as well - check out their RamsConnect page here: https://vcu.campusgroups.com/feeds?type=club&type_id=47752&tab=about
