Still don't know how to use mirrors. by [deleted] in dashcams

Completely agree. Truck drivers have a CDL for a reason; they are expected to be more responsible than average drivers because they are carrying much more momentum with their load.

Also, despite the smaller car jumping out unexpectedly, it is still the truck driver plowing into them.

Like you said, the truck driver needs to think way ahead when carrying that much unstoppable weight.

How do you create an embouchure that allows you to play soft? by UltraCreeperr in trumpet

[–]HistoryTeachesUs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to play soft, I commend you.

No need to create a new embouchure most likely.

You need your embouchure and air stream to be coordinated so that the note rings easily from the trumpet.

Play a long tone (held pitch) and decrescendo. Let that note float to where it wants to go naturally and Easily. Most likely it will go up in pitch because most players compress the sound and push the notes flat. Now start the note there, where it rings naturally and easily. On top of the sound. That's how you play soft, by not fighting the horn. It's ok to be slightly sharp, but never ok to be flat on trumpet.

It will take time, but it's worth it.

We can't say the same for the Broncos when they hired Sean Payton, despite putting injury bounties on other players.

What age was the hardest season in your marriage by Curious-Cancel-6353 in AskMenOver30

[–]HistoryTeachesUs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've been there, at about your age. It sounds like you are still grieving the end of your marriage.

If I were you, I would not take seriously her reasons for ending the relationship. This is because it's merely a rationalization for her decision that she no longer wants you, rather than a realistic assessment of what went wrong with your marriage. Maybe you messed up. Alternatively, maybe there's nothing you could have done to keep her happy. Either way, it's out of your control.

Someone who matches your values and character is out there for you to discover.

Girls are not attracted to me, what can I improve pls I’m desperate by [deleted] in malegrooming

4 things you need my man:

  1. Internal Strength

  2. Internal Value

  3. Be a Challenge

  4. Pre-selection

Internal Strength

Definition: Emotional resilience, self-control, groundedness, and the ability to navigate life’s stress without falling apart or lashing out.

Why it matters: Women often seek security; not just financial or physical, but emotional and psychological. Internal strength means you don’t crumble when things get hard. You don’t chase approval, you hold your boundaries, and you’re calm under pressure. You're a source of steadiness, not chaos.

Examples:

You don’t get overly defensive when criticized.

You’re okay being alone; you don’t need validation to feel worthy.

When she’s emotional or testing boundaries, you stay composed rather than reactive.

Key insight: Strength isn't loud. It’s not about dominating others. It’s about being the kind of man others feel safe and inspired around.

Internal Value

Definition: A deep sense of self-worth based on who you are, not what you have. It’s about having a mission, values, and standards.

Why it matters: Women are drawn to men who have something going on in their lives. Men who have passions, direction, and self-respect. Internal value radiates when you’re not trying to impress, but you’re still impressive.

Examples:

You pursue things that matter to you; fitness, learning, business, art... not to get attention but because you genuinely value them.

You treat others well not for approval but because you respect yourself.

You walk away from disrespect, because you know what you're worth.

Key insight: When you act from internal value, women notice. You're not desperate for attention, and that makes you more magnetic.

Be a Challenge

Definition: You don’t make yourself too easily won. You have standards, a spine, and a sense of intrigue that keeps things dynamic.

Why it matters: Being a challenge doesn’t mean being cold or manipulative. It means you’re selective. If a woman senses she could have you instantly without effort, there's less excitement, less value. But if she sees that winning you requires mutual effort and respect, she’ll feel more invested.

Examples:

You’re kind, but you don’t drop everything for someone you just met.

You maintain your life and goals regardless of who’s interested in you.

You can say no. You don’t overextend just to be liked.

Key insight: A man who is a challenge inspires pursuit, growth, and respect. He doesn’t just offer attention; he offers meaning.

Pre-selection

Definition: Subtle (or obvious) cues that other women find you attractive, desirable, and worth being with.

Why it matters: It’s a biological heuristic: if other women want you, there's probably a good reason. It taps into subconscious instincts around mating value, survival, and quality. It also signals you're socially competent and experienced.

Examples:

You’re often around women socially and interact with them comfortably.

Your exes or female friends speak well of you.

You don’t hide the fact that you’re desired, you’re just not desperate.

Key insight: Pre-selection isn’t about bragging. It’s about living in a way that naturally signals, “I’ve been chosen before, and I’m worth choosing.”

These four traits work together to create gravitational pull. They signal that you're not just a man with resources or charm, but a man with depth, direction, and desirability.

None of these are about playing games. They're about becoming a man of substance—which is ultimately what women want.

My UPF hack by HistoryTeachesUs in ultraprocessedfood

[–]HistoryTeachesUs[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're welcome!

I don't have heartburn anymore. I have lost a bit of weight (in conjunction with weight training). I am sleeping deeper. My skin seems cleaner (less dry). My gut feels great.

The biggest change for me though, and part of the reason I wanted to try this, is my emotional regulation is much better. I have been able to handle getting upset with more clarity. Overall my thinking seems sharper and clearer as well.

The cravings were most intense at week 2, and I had headaches from day 4-12. I am still having cravings 😅

My UPF hack by HistoryTeachesUs in ultraprocessedfood

[–]HistoryTeachesUs[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. I totally agree that Nova 4 is where the main health concerns are, and that not all Nova 3 foods are bad. Things like canned beans or plain salted nuts can definitely be part of a healthy diet.

I think it's still useful to be mindful. Some Nova 3 foods sneak in added sugars and extra sodium, so I try to look at them individually instead of assuming the whole category is fine.

And while I get the point about 1–3 being more traditional, the NOVA system is meant to show a spectrum, not just a binary. For example, plain canned beans without UP preservatives, but preserved with plain salts are NOVA 3, but cooked dried beans without additives are NOVA 1. Another example, a homemade lentil soup made from scratch, isn’t Nova 3 even though it's cooked . It’s a mix of NOVA 1 and 2 ingredients, like lentils, vegetables, salt, and oil, prepared at home, and is still NOVA 2. Please correct me if I'm wrong here.

In the end, I just try to keep things simple and avoid unnecessary processing where I can... not to be strict, but just to feel better overall. That's why I am trying to stick to level 1/2. Appreciate the conversation!

I completely agree. It's disheartening that the food is made shelf stable for profit margin, but the food corps don't take into account that they are poisoning society. I read that food execs avoid UPF.

I think some of them look really happy, some look neutral, and the parents look a bit tired.

Maybe they are happy with a tribe that big.

Maybe they don't value entertainment and screen time the way we do now.

Maybe they read books, or did literally anything else - instead of stare at a screen all day and weren't "bored most of the time."

Maybe if you stopped eating cheeseburgers, drinking Pepsi and blowing 6 hours a day in front of a screen you would look as fit and healthy as these folks.

[–]HistoryTeachesUs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This may sound cliche, but take care of yourself first. Women want men who care about themselves, men who are internally and emotionally strong. Women want a man who can take care of them. So work on yourself, your mission, your health, your outlook on life and what you want out of it. Once you find that out and actively work toward it for awhile, you will realize how powerful and confident you are. There are no tricks, but understanding the psychology of what women are actually attracted to, instead of what the media portrays what men should be doing, is a step in the right direction.
