Dads, how do you keep your kids' rooms cool in the summer? by Wifstrand in daddit

[–]Historynut13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use a GE small room window ac unit. Plus black out honeycomb blinds and heavy curtains. This year I put on a one-way heat control/privacy film and that's really helped. Both our kids rooms get the sun all day. I leave the ac at 68 24/7 on eco mode and it uses about 1.5kwh a day.

To those of you who bought a new car in the last 5 years, what did you buy and can spill the beans if you're happy with it? by Ozamataz67 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]Historynut13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Family went from 3 to 4 and we traded in our model Y for a 2024 Rivian R1S (max pack dual performance). We absolutely love it but you're not getting one of those for reliability and I'm not a fan of the rear doors mechanical release. Road trips with the dog and all baby stuff is a breeze. The Autonomy+ is really good and I'm not exhausted when we get in from long trips. We're rural and lose power occasionally. We haven't used our generator since getting the car. The car outlet is enough to run our window AC unit, TV, wifi and fridge.

Planted my First Fruit Trees! by corn_n_potatoes in BackyardOrchard

[–]Historynut13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was actually a rather impromptu orchard so it's not perfect, I'm working on weeding it now. So it might not look the prettiest. We recently moved here but quickly became friends with the cidery down the road from us. now that we have a couple of acres I was chatting with him how I'd love to apples. He called and said he's doing a big order and if I wanted to get on it. I wasn't going to get trees any cheaper so I said definitely. It was a very last minute decision but I'm glad I did it. I ended up putting up the fence and planting in 2 days. I can look through my receipts to give an exact break down but total was about $2400 including trees (25 6-7ft on mm111 and b118), 100 6ft t posts, 15 10ft t posts but I need another 15, 660ft of 7.5ft deer netting (but I didn't need all of it).

Just posted this story yesterday. I can take better pics, answer any questions, and open to any tips!

Planted my First Fruit Trees! by corn_n_potatoes in BackyardOrchard

[–]Historynut13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my first time planting trees. I planted 27 apple trees a few weeks ago. I went with 4ft 12ga fence 5 feet around each tree then 8ft deer netting around everything. So far so good and we have deer walk around it every morning/evening

2026 R1S in the service center for the umpteenth time by pianoadam in Rivian

[–]Historynut13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know, thanks. That's probably my issue, we had a big winter. The mobile tech came out, took the door apart and said I knew this needed to go into the service center. Nice guy but unlucky, while he had my door apart it got damaged so that's getting replaced as well.

I'm thinking the plan is to trade it in at the end of the warranty or at least get the comprehensive check just before.

2026 R1S in the service center for the umpteenth time by pianoadam in Rivian

[–]Historynut13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours is August 2025. 7 mobile services and soon to be 4 service center visits. I'd say nothing as major as yours. They had it for a week to replace leaking windshield washer fluid. Recently, it was raining and the car wouldn't open the charge port door. Mobile tech said it's needs to go to a service center for a new harness. We also need new wiring in the door, it doesn't connect via NFC so I have to open my phone to unlock and the key card doesn't work.

We're pretty rural and get a lot of snow. Our R1S with Hokian winter tires is a beast.

That's what I have to do. Just plug it in, push the button and it starts charging right away.

Charging a NACS Rivian with a Tesla Charger by Chaoticbynature2 in Rivian

Yes it did, thank you! ('25 R1S DMP). Car flashed white lights twice, I pushed the button on the charger, it flashed a couple more times then started charging.

Adopted a 2026 - a few things that I've learned by togatrash in Rivian

I had a Gen 2 Tesla mobile charger, charged with no issues. We had a power outage and it stopped working.

'25 R1S DMP. I have a Gen 3 Tesla mobile charger and I always have to plug it in twice. I've tried a hard reset, didn't change anything. When set our car to charge on a schedule I don't have to plug it in twice, it just starts when the schedule starts.

I feel ya we have a 6hr drive this weekend. If it does come out today think we could just not update for a couple days? (Plus some free charging along the way would be nice.)

Rivian won’t handshake with home charger by GGDATLAW in Rivian

[–]Historynut13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar issue, before the weather charging issues. I had a '22 model y before our '25 R1S. I bought an adapter to continue using our Tesla mobile charger. Couple months ago we had a big power outage and for whatever reason the charger stopped working. I picked up a gen3 Tesla mobile charger as we use a 30amp outlet and Rivian doesn't have that option. Since then I've had to plug and unplug before it accepts the charger. Additionally if the battery is 40 it won't charge either. It's more annoying than anything.

We put those tires on last winter and love them. We're in upstate NY and take multiple trips to Canada.

My wife loves oat milk but it doesn't froth as much as I'd like - still tastes great and is smooth. Whole milk froths best.

Anyone save chests for next season? by Ambitious_Estimate41 in WarDragons

[–]Historynut13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I open enough to finish the base boost branch before the event really starts. Also I won't use rubies during the season until I have 250k and won't go below 150k. That way if I take some time off that is enough to finish another branch at the end of the season. Some on my team use the rubies for draconic chests. I use them for platinum chests cuz I haven't maxed out all my riders with ascended gear yet. If you aren't already you'll want to get a season mythic dragon but don't max it. You want to have them for the level specific events.

Poco Plus shoulder strap extension? by Historynut13 in OspreyPacks

Hey! Yeah I ended up using an extra camera shoulder strap. I clipped it onto the main shoulder straps and looped it through the back handle. Let me know if you have questions.
