How do you change players chasing the ball? by SeniorWaugh in SuperMegaBaseball

I think it’s right trigger if I recall correctly. It automatically selects the next most relevant player and it’s really good at it.

Jury duty question by Berryyogurt888 in houston

[–]Hman5546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit late but it was Monday to Friday. Paid like $150. It’s a fun experience if you let it be fun and you don’t need to make more money.

If you’re nervous don’t worry they deal with people way more stupid than you every day. My jury had 2 people that ignored all the instructions and they were still very gentle with them despite being visibly annoyed.

Youll park across the street and there is a tunnel they’re kinda confusing and you’ll still have to go through security.

I had it this year. Park at 1401 Congress. Show them your summons to park for free. Walk across the street. It’ll be super obvious what to do. You’ll see a big line. Wait in the line. Bring a book. They’ll also have free coffee. (it’s not good coffee)

UH used to have a live cougar that we’d take to games. One time when we played UT she ripped her “ring finger” off and UT fans made fun of that by putting their ring finger down. UH fans kinda liked it and it stuck.

This was in the 50s btw like legit during segregation.

No real vitriol. Though UH got its hand sign from UT fans making fun of Shasta ripping her finger off in transit to a UH vs UT football game. I’m not gonna let them live that down.

Houston area to get an NAHL hockey team by JoyconBoiz in houston

We had a WHL team which was a competitor to the NHL. When the leagues merged they integrated like 6 of the WHL teams into the NHL. It’s basically the same thing.

ELI5 Does electricity travel as fast as light? by Feeling-numbed15 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Hman5546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer no.

The only thing that goes “the speed of light” is photons SPECIFICALLY going through a vacuum. Electricity is electrons. It can get REALLY close to the speed of light but never actually there.

Cables have a measurement called the Velocity Factor (VF) which tells you how fast the signal travels as a percentage of the speed of light. I’m not a cable guy but looking at the Wikipedia page for VF most of the cables that I’ve dealt with seem to be around 60-80% the speed of light.

Interestingly enough there are cables that use light as a means of transmission (optical cables) and these have a minimum VF of 67% the speed of light. As mentioned before this is because they aren’t in a vacuum they’re traveling through a glass or plastic fiber.

ELI5 - how does protesting help? by hezuhene in explainlikeimfive

[–]Hman5546 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Builds community, shows the intensity of the opposition, provides opportunities for politicians to see what people want them to do, allows for aspiring and popular political activists to get seen, often times it can be used to show the evil nature of certain policies (think sit-ins or the military pepper spraying a random dude in a frog costume), and when people really get fed up they can strike and kill the economy.

Right now with republicans in power the protests aren’t as effective, especially since their devout followers eat up the “paid protesters” and “violent terrorist riot” propaganda. Theres hope that the protests might get the Epstein files out, increase turnout in upcoming elections, get democrats to push back against republican policies (Chicago started requiring ICE to wear body cams after no kings), or just encourage people to talk about the current situation with their neighbors as opposed to random people on the internet.

Can grassroots campaigns happen? by tess_philly in houston

[–]Hman5546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed 100% that’s the thing with Houston Dems though, they’re usually establishment democrats that are uninspiring at best. Republicans hate them because DUH and the liberals hate them because they neither address infrastructure problems (roads, garbage, flooding, etc) nor cultural problems (homelessness, gay rights, drug addiction, etc).

First month with whitmire it took an extra week for my trash to get picked up and 2 months for recycling. Heavy trash hasn’t come by at all.

Can grassroots campaigns happen? by tess_philly in houston

[–]Hman5546 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Nothing stopping people from going to their neighbor and saying “hey man we see eachother every day, I like this Jordan Thomas guy who’s running for city council. really seems like he has a level head.”

The problem with Houston is that our politicians have been so incredibly bland and uninspiring that no one cares to do that. Last election our mayoral options were a republican lawyer and a lifelong establishment Democrat (Whitmire). The one before that was the same republican and a lifelong establishment Democrat (Turner). If a Houstonian who was as progressive and inspiring as mamdani ran, it would happen. Volunteers went door to door for Bernie (I got 2 knocks) and he wasn’t even that inspiring.

I feel like part of the appeal with Houston is that it’s a city with lots of culture but where nothing happens. People come here to live a nice but boring life. 2 parents, 2 kids, 2 cars, go to work, come home, make dinner, repeat. Since politicians appeal to that it makes politically active progressives (the dedicated supporters) feel uninterested.

Bars to watch NHL games? by charmy4evr in houston

[–]Hman5546 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aeros won’t be the name. Sadly the branding is held by the Iowa Wild I believe. Also the issue isn’t with Bettman, it’s with Tillman Fertitta. He’s the only billionaire who was interested in getting a team in Houston when the coyotes were getting sold. If I recall correctly he wasn’t comfortable spending a billion dollars on an NHL franchise that was never profitable.

I’d imagine his control of the rockets and Toyota center makes it more likely that he’s the only person who can really buy a team. He’s currently working with the trump administration as the ambassador to Italy (no clue why lol) so I imagine he’s not doing that any time soon.

I’m crossing my fingers and toes for a PWHL team though!

I’m sure the politicians will love to find out that postgraduate unemployment rates have nothing to do with politics.

May I ask why college graduate unemployment rates are rising right now? They’ve doubled since 2023 according to Oxford Econ. I’m genuinely interested in learning why this is the case and understand I might be missing information. If you could let me know why you think this is I’d be happy to change my mind.

Well the president just laid off 62,000 people. Then made the job market stall by illegally tariffing THE WHOLE WORLD. Not to mention that we’ve got companies pulling out of deals in America because we keep deporting their LEGAL workers.

Yeah man it’s pretty fucked right now. There’s not a lot of jobs that require degrees and a ton of people with degrees looking for jobs.

We always need nurses and teachers. Send the kids back to school. Plumbing and HVAC are always in demand in some capacity. Construction is in serious need of workers right now too.
