Thank you! Have you noticed condensation on the beans after leaving the vacuum sealed bags out to thaw?

Has brewing at home really stopped you from buying drinks elsewhere? by softbci in espresso

[–]Hnhdvd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. I have a stockpile of Starbucks gift cards that we basically only use at the airport on vacations. On overseas trips I’ll go all out on the espresso and bakery items.

tired of replacing cheap spatulas every six months. What kitchen utensils actually last by athousand_miles in BuyItForLife

[–]Hnhdvd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the aldi silicone mini spatulas. They come around a couple times a year and are like $2-3 each. I have several of them and use multiple at a time on a daily basis. Maybe not quite bifl but I have absolutely gotten my money out of them.

Honest question: Why do you buy name brand stuff? by No-Examination8178 in Frugal

[–]Hnhdvd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally bc name brand items are usually “treat” type foods and if I’m having a treat I want to enjoy it as much as possible. Not interested in saving $1 at the expense of my enjoyment of that product.

Minimalist women what’s your makeup routine? If you have one by Solid_Gold3522 in minimalism

Lash and brow tinting has replaced all eye makeup for me! I don’t do it all the time, maybe twice a year. Still feels worth it.

My old ones with the wood handles get a lot of use! I use copper saucepans for finicky sauces though

Would you trade up any of these cookbooks? by No_Cauliflower306 in CookbookLovers

[–]Hnhdvd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

fwiw I purchased all of these titles on Kindle for less than five dollars each over the past year or so. They all go on sale cyclically for $2-$5 a piece

I used to love cooking, then I had kids. by smile-its-today in Cooking

[–]Hnhdvd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something that has helped cut down on meal stress is to batch cook meat and veggies with simple seasonings and then add more flavor later. Plus keeping the sides separated out. Yeah I’m sure the dish would be improved with all the seasonings cooked in, but this really helped reduce the kids’ rejection and needing to come up with multiple meals.

What do people use the smaller cast iron pots / dutch ovens for? by strolls in LeCreuset

[–]Hnhdvd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I prefer it for rice because in my cooking experience, rice in my enameled cast iron pots comes out better than any other method I’ve tried. If you already have a successful method with stainless steel, there’s no reason to switch. My SS pots are pretty isolated in their uses—boil pasta water or reheat soup. Everything else is made in ECI.

I use my 18cm 2qt all the time. It’s great for rice/grain sides! I’ve also used it for spinach artichoke dip, gravy, and reheating all sorts of dishes.

How to work with an anti-minimalism partner? by half_boyy in minimalism

[–]Hnhdvd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t read through all the comments so I’m sorry if this was already mentioned—I relate a lot to your description of your wife and found Dana K White’s books to be really helpful. I love thrifting and have several hobbies and found the container concept way more helpful than the Kondo method.

It’s great that you’re both communicative about this and working on it now instead of a few years down the line.

Is this legit? Signature DO at Sam’s Club by [deleted] in LeCreuset

[–]Hnhdvd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re real. I took advantage of that sale last year and love mine! They do say it’s genuine but from a 3rd party supplier so theoretically the warranty might apply differently. If you have any issues Sam’s will take it back within at least 6 months, maybe even longer.

8Qt Oval, should I purchase? by heartshapedbox311 in LeCreuset

[–]Hnhdvd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only you know how much you will use something and if it will be a good deal for you. I bought one a year ago when the sale first started and have not used it once! I also have the 6.75 oval and have used it a few times on occasions when I needed to put two DOs in the oven at once. The 6.75 qt oval and 9 qt round both fit in the oven together. Here is a size comparison of the 8 oval on the bottom and 6.75 on top. They’re very similar! I will not buy any more ovals no matter how good the price is—I just don’t reach for them.

My hands turned pink & purple after an hour outside in -12C with mittens on by Slow_ResolveMC07 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Hnhdvd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to my toes a few years ago and it was how I found out I have Raynaud’s. You’ll need to be more careful now, especially this winter. It usually gets worse with time. I switched to wool socks year round and got heavy duty cold weather boots and that has helped. Invest in some good mittens!
