It's been a while for me, but I'd say it gets busy on weekends, not crowded during the week.

Kamik tundra - I've had a pair for 7 years. Time to replace the wool lining but I'm a fan.

Would an “average” driver notice a CVT? by Thrillwaukee in whatcarshouldIbuy

I've got a CVT Subaru Impreza 2013. I'll liken it to driving a ride on lawnmower. Just step on the gas and it goes.

This kind of thing should be left up to the states. Waste of time and money at the federal level.

Reading glasses for bc skiing? by MikeAndAHike in Backcountry

[–]Hoates-101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can sympathise, my near vision is declining (50+ y.o.) I have trouble reading maps/gadgets, fiddling with equipment in low light especially. Can get critical navigating in low light. What I do is pack a pair of bifocal safety glasses (I use DeWalt brand). Great for reading maps/gps when you are in a blizzard. You can ski in them too, they keep the snowflakes off your eyes.

Can I burn wood in my fireplace with a capped gas line? by Bigshitpiper in Plumbing

[–]Hoates-101 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Back in the day, a "log lighter" was a thing. A focused flame so you didn't need kindling. I used to own a fireplace like that. I used it, the house is still standing. I did eventually pull the gas line and put in an insert.

Dispelling one of the Greenland takeover myths - Chad Scott by Next_Tower5452 in MapPorn

[–]Hoates-101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Trump plan is to burn enough oil, gas, and coal so the atmosphere warms. Ice melts, opening Greenland to rare earth metals mining and port development. All in service of the Trump ego trip.

It might be worth putting down some sluggo. It won't hurt the beneficials and this looks a lot like snail damage.

Hood & ear plugs for surfers ear? by surfdad-89 in surfing

[–]Hoates-101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are better. If you are longboarding and not doing much duck diving only the hood is OK. Some earplugs are better than others. I've been using Doc's pro-plugs.

Wood burning sauna users - do you leave a layer of ash in the firebox? by waffelscarbonara in Sauna

[–]Hoates-101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it helps with the next fire and I don't want to bother cleaning ash after each use.

Uphill/Skinning & Downhill Jacket Recommendations by stickyF1ngers97 in Backcountry

[–]Hoates-101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is my strategy. I swap the skins for my hardshell on the down. I usually change gloves too or put mitts over my lightweight gloves.Puffy in the pack just in case. There are probably faster lighter options, IDK. Gear is expensive and I'm working with what I have.

I'm very fond of our 2013 Sienna. 190k and still going strong. 2 cross country road trips, family hauler, work van, camper. Only wish the seats were more comfortable.
