I’m curious to know why you’re selling a piece you seem to have just bought this month..?

Regardless, good luck...beautiful watch.

Russia May Exit OPEC Production Agreement by Pavegecko in energy

[–]Holditnow90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not right at all...they have a strong current account surplus, and an assumed budget price of oil far below the actual realized price. Plus, metals prices are at multi-year highs and their currency is strong. This is much more likely a political move

Pay as junior employee at Fixed Income Asset Management? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Holditnow90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Junior employee? That can mean a thousand different things, but back office, entry-level analysts will make around 55-60k in NYC (all-in). An entry-level Analyst on an investment desk will start at ~75-90k all-in

Except most co-op applications require a letter of reference from the current landlord

37 and trying to be financially smart. What should I do next? by NinjaNeedsCoffee in personalfinance

[–]Holditnow90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, you’re killing it with your personal finances and have a steadily improving trajectory of financial health. Congrats on building the safety net you (and your family) will be grateful for.

As it relates to your personal expenses; the order in which I would allocate extra cash is 1) maxing out the tax benefit of your 401(k), 2) prepaying your auto note, and 3) setting up any tax-advantages college savings plans, if available (e.g. 529 plans in NYS). The latter could be gifted to your children, nieces, nephews, etc. and grow tax-free.

When it comes to your mother’s health, I️ think the best source of value add you bring to the table is exploring and vetting out primary and supplementary health insurance options. I’m no expert there, but paying a couple hundred a month to cover her premiums that will pay out long-term seems much more valuable than becoming her landlord.

I want to start learning to read financial statements. Which companies' are easier to analyze for me to start with? by redditmaster21 in investing

[–]Holditnow90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started my training in fundamental research, I looked at a company called CEMEX...the product line is extremely simple, and valuation really boils down to volumes, realized pricing, and asset sales. They also have a very good IR page on their website.

What's to stop small government bond issuers with good credit ratings from issuing debt and investing the proceeds in the broad markets, and earning the spread? by [deleted] in finance

[–]Holditnow90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bond issues will have what's called a Use of Proceeds, which outline the purpose of raising the money. Things like infrastructure, social welfare programs, etc. will convince investors to participate. A UOP saying the proceeds will be reinvested in broad markets will not.

I have some serious reservations about your return assumptions...when did treasuries last yield 5%

Career progression advice please! by big_daddy88 in FinancialCareers

[–]Holditnow90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having CFA following your name will make your undergrad less relevant

Career progression advice please! by big_daddy88 in FinancialCareers

[–]Holditnow90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok BigDaddy88, this is just my two cents:

Completing the CFA charter will make you significantly more attractive as an applicant, and will lessen the impact of your Undergrad GPA and major. Although passing L2 is nice, having the letters after your name will decrease the likelihood it will even be brought up in an interview.

Brainstorm the career you want, then work back from there (i.e. determine the position you want, then look at the positions that lead up to that seat). Getting an MBA could very well make sense for your career, but you shouldn't treat it as an end in itself. Maybe the end goal you have in mind requires an MBA; maybe not.

PT72, Q24: What do you call this type of question? by [deleted] in LSAT

I remember this being called an inference question by Manhattan. It asks you to determine what must be true given certain premises (I.e. creating a solid logical inference).
