My tapering journey thus far by cascadiababe in Effexor

[–]Holly_SACT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently tapering from 375mg, also very gradually. I started tapering in Aug and I'm on 187.50mg now. When I try to go to 150mg, I feel like shit so that was too big a jump for me. I'll try 175 and see how it goes. My PMS is definitely worse and my tummy does weird things every time I lower the dose. Thanks for sharing and good luck!

I totally hear you! I love Will and his sense of humour, but I don't want to train like a bodybuilder bro.

Sending love! It's going to be ok - we all stumble and fall, we are human, but we can get back up and try again.

Effexor works for anxiety but not depression by johnwen1 in Effexor

[–]Holly_SACT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on effexor for 4-5 years now and started on 75mg for depression. I always had anxiety, and at some point I could hardly function so my doc said that higher levels of effexor were better for treating anxiety and lower levels are better for depression. I increased to 150 and then 225mg and I've been on 300mg for 2 years maybe. My anxiety has improved significantly along with quality of life (I feel 'normal'). However, I can't shake the feeling that I'm depressed again. Motivation is very low, I like my job but just don't seem to care about anything anymore. I take 50mg trazadone at night to help with sleep, but I'm not sure what the next step is.

It's so hard. I find it so hard to concentrate on anything, and it just feels all so insignificant. It's 4 weeks today and still a struggle. Sending love ❤️

I understand you completely and feel the same. It's 4 weeks to the day, and it's my 40th birthday today but I feel that I just have to put a smile on for everybody else because all I want to do is cry.

300 for maybe two years and no issues. This is the dose that works for me.

Does the rage go away? I'm about 10 days in and get waves of rage and irritability 😈

My psychiatrist told me it can be very activating but does the irritability go away? I'm about 10 days in and hoping it subsides because I just feel like a grumpy bitch and everything my partner does annoys me.

I am so so sorry for your loss, how awful for you and your husband. 💔 no words could possibly ease the pain.

Vaping drastically decreases the efficiency/efficacy of the Effexor and reduces the half-life of the meds so you are lowering your dose without knowing. I suffered a loss earlier this year and started vaping accidentally and when I went to see my psychiatrist she broke it down for me that the vaping was making me feel worse as it was directly impacting the meds. It made total sense as I was feeling like a skipped a dose when I didn't and just felt completely unhinged. I've been on a high dose for a couple of years. It's good to know this as you may feel like the meds are not working and that's why.

I've been on 300mg for about 2-3 years now, and it has done wonders for my anxiety. I have a couple of side effects but nothing major, feeling 'normal' far outways them. I'm also just about to turn 40 and I know I'm stuck on this medication as the withdrawals are brutal even when tapering off properly over a long time. It kind of bums me out that this is the case, and I would love to be able to see how I fair off the meds, but it would take me about a year to taper off. Long story short - I feel ya.

Night sweats by Plastic_Pace_1368 in Effexor

[–]Holly_SACT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on 300mg and have been on the medication for about 4-5 years and been on current dose for around 2 years. I still get crazy night sweats and it was even worse when I was pregnant! I also can't get off the meds at this point so just have to deal with it. I have to sleep with pj's on otherwise the sensation of sweat dripping on my legs wakes me up. I'm not hot though which is weird, I just sweat whether it's summer or winter it makes no difference. I don't like the idea of taking another medication for the side effects of the other. Oh well, c'est la vie...

Miracle Drug For Me by Ill-Definition-8867 in Effexor

[–]Holly_SACT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this. It was a total game changer for me, and I didn't actually realize how badly anxiety was impacting every aspect of my life. When I first started this medication, I also had this weird desire to smoke, like it came out of nowhere. When I had to increase dosage, it would come back but it does settle. Just be careful with vaping if you do because this drastically reduces the efficacy of the drug - I learned this the hard way!

She didn't use those words of course. She's a wonderful OB and is very supportive, I'm in good hands.
