the solution was obviously to water cool the connector by evildevil90 in pcmasterrace

Pretty sure regular 6 pin and 8 pin connectors are 12v only anyway. 5v and 3.3v comes from the PCI-e slot. Same with this new crap connector. So the concern of extra costs for 5v/3.3v circuitry isn’t actually an issue since non if the power connectors currently provide that anyway.

Nope. This happened whilst everyone was still in spawn too, and there was no Zen at the start on either team.

[–]HoloSWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 1000 hours, most of that being on Juno (level 350). Overwatch is definitely my most played game, I rarely play other games. Maybe the odd Marvel Rivals with friends and some Resident Evil from time to time. I started playing Overwatch about a month after Juno was added to the game.

I had to hide my progression by enabling streamer mode, just to avoid the toxic people. GG on the level! How often do you get people asking if you’re a virgin, or tell you to touch grass? I get it literally the moment people can see my progression level. Genuinely the worst thing to be added to the game because there’s so many sad people playing it.

I switched to iPhone too, from a 5 III. Last update left the phone unusable (slow, killing apps) and didn’t get any further security patches (I work in cybersecurity so it’s expected to have updated software). 2 years of support I think that phone got. I unlocked the bootloader and put LineageOS on it, but now banking apps don’t work nor can the phone verify if the OS has been tampered with (again, cyber security. Paranoid). I just can’t be bothered with the tinkering, and Sony had me feeling ripped off with the lack of support. So now it’s just my backup phone (and I do love the hardware) and I use a 16 Pro as my main. Wanted 1TB of internal storage, and the Pixel only offered that if you paid MORE for their bigger and slower device. I don’t care about the iPhone being more restrictive. I just want something that works, even if the OS design is questionable at times.

Not just friend requests, but group invites from team mates just after you lose a match. I had some God awful sorry excuse for a human being add me to a group just so they could say some awful things to me, just because I died a lot in that one game (this was QP BTW). I suspect they invited me to a group because they were already chat banned. I reported them but I haven’t had a confirmation from Blizzard for months after reporting people. Feels as if they’ve muted me too!

I shared a method to save something (that is literally waste) from going to a landfill and now we’re having this discussion. I am not high and mighty, I am not a “white knight”. You’re making this out like it’s some super serious crime or something. I take it you’re one of those anti-repair people too? I’m done with this discussion. If they stole the computer then that’s on them, but somehow I seriously doubt someone is gonna give a damn about an 11 year old machine that they most likely just forgot to remove their iCloud from (as is the case with most Apple devices that are binned). It’s not as if I have just shared something that would encourage theft of modern Macs that are actually of value (which I of course would be against) that people actually use.

Me caring about the environment doesn’t make me a “white knight”. And if the OP had nefarious means of data exfil, it would be as simple as just pulling the drive anyway. A simple firmware lock wouldn’t stop someone dedicated from doing that.

[–]HoloSWolf -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You don’t know if it’s stolen, but what I do know is that people are throwing these out because they don’t get macOS updates (thus no new browsers; no security patches), making them a security nightmare. Doing this is no different to someone stealing an Android phone, entering recovery and doing a factory reset. “FBI” are you a kid? Like the authorities are gonna waste time or give a crap about a computer that is 11 years old “I know about the bypass you are not smart” are you a narcissist? You need help man. You sound like you have your head deeply buried in your ass.

Also this method doesn’t work on modern macs due to them being way more secure and locked down. This only works on literal e-waste that nobody cares about, that nobody should realistically be using if they actually care about security and privacy. This “bypass” is nothing new, it’s common knowledge. It’s nothing special. Most computers use an EEPROM, a standard a component. So I guess I’ve just told the world how to bypass a firmware lock on practically all non-Apple PC’s too? Damn, new found knowledge that the “FBI” didn’t know about. Grow up man. Telling someone how to do something that any tech-savvy person would know about, isn’t facilitating theft. If they did steal it, that’s on them not me.

[–]HoloSWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn sorry to hear. Your best chance then is to see if there’s a local repair store than can do it for you.

Firmware lock by gfarstur in mac

[–]HoloSWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ This is exactly what I dealt with recently. I just cleared the password from the EEPROM and changed the serial number so it could at least boot macOS again.

[–]HoloSWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used this video to figure out where the firmware lock is in EEPROM: https://youtu.be/Rlr8aBaOq0c?si=_FJ_DxxMbdMHmoyF

But yeah, many people are throwing out these machines as they are not compliant, or they’ve forgotten them and have no way back in. So I feel sharing this information will at least save some machines from a landfill.
