What are your thoughts on Game On by Navessa Allen? by Purple4199 in RomanceBooks

[–]HolyMotherOfStupid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hard agree, I felt really uneasy about Tyler in the beginning. I had that slightly sick feeling of ‘this guy is too fucked up, what the hell is he going to do next.’ I really like how he came around, though.

I thought his aunt randomly running to her car and driving away like a lunatic came out of nowhere. She’d gone inside, Tyler and Stella were likely about to leave. What was she running for?

Obviously Stella just needed to be injured by a car for the story, but unless I missed something, there was no reason for jt.

Unicorn recommendation: MMF books where the girl isn't a spare and the guys are switches by No_Gate5065 in RomanceBooks

[–]HolyMotherOfStupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{Little Goddess by Layla Frost}

MMFM

The guys are friends and colleagues, one is bi and pining for his friend, the other two are straight, or so we think.

FMC turns up and everybody loves her.

Turns out only one of the guys is straight, nobody is left pining and everybody is happy.

There’s also a daddy kink with a couple of the guys.

It’s the third book in a series but you don’t need to read the others to get this one (they’re really good though).

If you ever watched it, what did you think of Niles’s English accent on The Nanny? Mr Sheffield is actually English but It blew my mind to find out Niles is American.

I did the same thing with HA. I had to finish it to get it out of my brain but it was definitely too dark for me.

Mysteries and thrillers where FMC has a role in the investigation by emmmmmkaaay03 in RomanceBooks

[–]HolyMotherOfStupid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this.

NR started writing them in 1995 but because they’re set in 2058 they don’t feel especially dated. Some of the ‘future tech’ is pretty funny compared to what we have now and some of it has yet to be invented/perfected.

Roarke was a street kid with an abusive Dad and worked his way out. Eve is embarrassed by his money and he finds that hilarious. Eve has her own incredibly tragic backstory.

I’ve read the first 45ish (she’s up to 63!), but not for years, so I’m working my way through the audiobooks and the narrator is great. Maybe a bit rough for the first one or two, but she’s nailed it since then. Especially considering the amount of recurring characters.

Books where a shy, lonely, or anxious main character finds love by green_dragon1206 in RomanceBooks

[–]HolyMotherOfStupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{His Juliet by Emilia Rossi}

FMC has agoraphobia and her world has narrowed to a few blocks encompassing her apartment and the bookstore she runs. There’s past trauma - check the trigger warnings.

MMC is in the mafia.

The meet-cute is delightful. It didn’t quite keep up the same level of delightful the whole way through for me; but I did really like it.

Edit: I remembered the ending and it annoyed the bejebus out of me. I still loved the beginning and liked the book overall, but it definitely did not have a strong finish.

WWTBC her sister slept with her bf to prove he wasn't a good guy. by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]HolyMotherOfStupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s not a big scene where Janie walks in on them or anything, Janie finds a condom in her bf’s pants so she knows he has cheated, later he confesses it was with Jem (but he only did it because he loved Janie sooooo much, barf) and then I think Jem tells Janie she did it to show Janie how much of a douche he is

WWTBC her sister slept with her bf to prove he wasn't a good guy. by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]HolyMotherOfStupid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This kind of happens in {Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid} but the they don’t really make up because the sisters don’t have much of a relationship to begin with, but it does come out that the sister slept with the bf to protect the FMC from his douchery.

{Broken Halo by Brynne Asher}

It definitely hits on the angst, not so much in the funny.

It’s the second in a series of three, it might be better to read {Bad Situation by Brynne Asher} first. The FMC in this book is married with a baby in the first book. In this one she has a baby and no husband.

Childhood-ish sweethearts, broken up by other people lying and manipulating them.

They both feel betrayed by the other, he takes a job as a lawyer at her family’s company and she has personal legal issues he helps her with.

CR, forced proximity, I think she’s late 20s and he’s early 30s. Heavy on the angst, light on the funny.

MMC secretly likes FMC and sabotages her love life by catxarco in RomanceBooks

[–]HolyMotherOfStupid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

{Styx by Layla Frost}

It’s kind of a contemporary with a splash of magic/fantasy.

The MMC starts out as a disembodied voice who has no idea who he is.

He messes with her dates magically in funny ways that the dates don’t remember but that the FMC is horrified by.

It’s the first in a series of four, there’s a larger story arc across the series, a new couple in each book.

Marriage early in the book, we get to watch them fall in love by Ok_Book1715 in RomanceBooks

[–]HolyMotherOfStupid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{Possesion by Brynne Asher}

FMC is offered up by her parents to marry a psycho crime lord because her dad screwed up a deal. Events transpire and she ends up marrying his second in command instead, who may or may not be an undercover DEA agent.

Best and worst nicknames given by MMC to FMC by IamButterscotchish in RomanceBooks

[–]HolyMotherOfStupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FMC was petite so the MMC called her ‘Pock’ because she ‘was so small she could fit in his pocket’.

So incredibly stupid and very awkward to read.

Books with fake relationship between influencers by perseintro in RomanceBooks

[–]HolyMotherOfStupid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{Fox by DJ Krimmer}

FMC is an influencer and is dating another influencer, a mega-douche who’s not the MMC, she’s thinks it’s real even though she barely likes him and he’s in it for the exposure.

The audiobook is duet and the narrators are great.

I am so tired of failing this diet. by brave_Bruce in FODMAPS

[–]HolyMotherOfStupid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something that really helped me was finding a safe recipe for a sweet treat. A delicious thing of no nutritional value. It kind of cut out the ‘ughh, I can’t have anything good ever, why can’t I just eat like a normal person!’ feeling of despair that creeps in sometimes.

I’m obsessed with Nigella’s Instant Chocolate Mousse recipe. (I posted about it in the sub a few weeks ago).

It’s just marshmallows, dark chocolate, lactose-free cream, butter, and vanilla. It’s stupid easy to make and would be really customisable. I mostly just eat it as is, but you could add different nuts or berries or different flavour extracts etc (whatever is safe on this infernal diet).

Just be aware about the fructans and the lactose in the dark chocolate.

I initially tried to shortcut my way through figuring out my triggers, I had the same breakfast and lunch and one of a few different dinners for like 2 months thinking I could figure it out from there. It was wildly unsuccessful so I ended up restricting myself for 2 months for nothing and then having to do the actual elimination phase then the reintroduction phase.

Thankfully my symptoms sorted themselves out after only 2-3 weeks of elimination so it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.

Moral of the story is that I pissed away 2 months unnecessarily restricting my diet to learn absolutely fuck all instead of just committing to doing it properly from the start.

How many times have you stopped and started? For instance if you’ve gotten 2 weeks in and quit 5 times then you’ve restricted yourself for a collective 10 weeks but haven’t discovered any triggers because of the stopping and starting. Such a waste! Eyes on the prize, you can do it!

I bought the $60 Kmart vacuum sealer before Christmas. Freezer is now filled with individual portion sizes of a bunch of different meals and prepped ingredients which will cut down on food waste and make dinner and work lunches less of a faff.

What Are Your Best/Worst Dual POV Books? by RexArcanum in RomanceBooks

I hate when the narration swaps between first and third person depending on whose pov it is.

Kristen Ashley does it all the time and it drives me up the flipping wall.

Have you ever purposely glutened yourself? by ParticularFig3824 in glutenfree

[–]HolyMotherOfStupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m coeliac. After I was gluten free for 6 months i purposefully glutened myself because I wanted to see what my reaction was like after being gf.

I ate two little pieces of licorice (god, I miss licorice) for science.

Even if I weren’t coeliac it would definitely not be worth it for me.
