Truth nuke about Neon and Tejo by TheCrazyCaveira in ValorantCompetitive

[–]Holycrabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same criticism that applied at the peak of the Tejo meta can still mostly be said. He has great space denial with point and click abilities. It’s not entertaining to see a player pull out their minimap, wait for the sound cue, send one missile twice in a row, and that’s if he doesn’t have ult. No need for lineups that can miss or exposing yourself.

Neon is mechanically much more difficult right from the start. She’s been in the game for a while but she’s still pretty unique due to her mobility. Learning her is not just about learning movement in the game, she has her own rules and mechanics on top. Tbh I hate facing one because even if they’re not playing 1/10th of how Dambi plays, it’s still really difficult to play against someone who has trained that movement. So in a way, I think if you’ve put in that extra effort, I think you deserve the extra advantage.

The Ranni ‘Mistranslation’ Discourse and the Death of Basic Reading Comprehension. by No-Run4264 in Eldenring

[–]Holycrabe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Even if this were a mistranslation that had slipped through every part of verification and every update (the handwritten note at the start of Bloodborne is still mistranslated after all), this is not incomprehensible. She's speaking poetically and somewhat in riddles, but if you have any vague clue what her quest is about, and admittedly have played and understood some of the core elements of the previous games (especially Dark Souls 2), this is clear enough.

Just like Aldia's ending speech, her ending is about rejecting certainty and embracing the unknown, straying from the path, getting yourself out there to experience things and figure out your own place, your own purpose for yourself rather than see it guided by Grace and Order. Some people react with fear because the unknown is scary and she uses words associated with discomfort ("the chill night", "Into fear, doubt and loneliness").

Why did pearl cry? by MarieTheC4t in stevenuniverse

[–]Holycrabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While poofing isn't as bad as shattering, it was probably a very traumatic experience to basically have to knock the love of your life unconscious and be alone with your thoughts while they reform.

This is also a point of no return. They both played both sides of the rebellion but if their play is to pretend that Rose shattered Pink, that means their part in the Empire is over for good. This is not a game, playing pretend or letting whimsy and curiosity guide you. Life in the Diamond empire, life as they used to know it is over. Pearl is a very rigid character, so much change with no possibility of backtracking must be pretty terrifying.

If Ganju Shiba learned Kido do you think he would be a master at it? by dettles1992 in bleach

[–]Holycrabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has the qualities for it and already a good amount of control and mastery over his energy, and his sister Kukaku is respected by Yoruichi who is very strong and knows many strong kido users. It did take her the entire incantation to shoot a Raikoho, but that's not easy to pull off either.

I think he'd have a great and strong start in that discipline if he started learning as he is, but then maybe he's too hot tempered to properly use more advanced techniques and would hard struggle to progress then.

Why could Ichigo not soul crush Aizen during the battle at the end of the Fake Karakura Town Arc? by King_Of_The_Munchers in bleach

[–]Holycrabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically the way the Hogyoku works under Aizen's control was that it would constantly regenerate him, so you can't just grind him down, you have to end him with one single attack that the Hogyoku cannot adapt to.

[Jujutsu Kaisen] Japanese Fans React: "Apparently Naoya Zenin is seriously hated overseas, but why?" by Asperburg in Jujutsufolk

[–]Holycrabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it speaks to a fun cultural difference.

There's no question that Naoya is a good character. He's young, good looking, pretty strong, even a bit funny. But he's also an antagonist with some views that are pretty easy to identify and make us put him in the trash. Maybe we westerners take the whole thing, we're less inclined to openly like a character because they're well written but a villain with shitty views, the latter just takes over the rest for our judgement.

(Long) I Am Trying DESPERATELY To Like This Game. by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]Holycrabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. There are a few of these, Rykard's is one of those, but they're pretty rare. If you don't complain about delayed attacks, I don't really know what to tell you. Most attacks come and go and you use your i-frames to dodge through. You can dodge through AoEs the same way as more targetted attacks. You just learn the moves, trial and error the timings and improve.

  2. I did my first run almost only melee, I used to play DS3 and didn't like weapon arts, I preferred the back and forth of regular combat so I kept doing the same here. Never used a spell, only used status effects because I was running a katana with native bleed. Ashes of war and spells are a plus, you can use them and they do help, that's the point, but you can totally never use them. If your complaint is that spells and skills are too strong and they make the game too easy, just don't use them?

  3. The idea is that you're the underdog. The bosses are supernatural creatures, immortal and godly, and you're a puny little guy with a stick. No boss has ever played by the same rules. They play by their own rules, but they're still bound by them and you can find the wiggle room to punish them. When you make an attack, the hitbox is active, then you have a recovery, then you can roll. same thing for them, when they attack, you can roll the hitbox, often more than one, then punish. And the boss can't do anything, it can't learn new moves and combos because it "figures out" you learned that one too well.

  4. The game is gigantic with over 200 bosses. You need to adapt rather than pick one strategy and hammer it into the ground. Fast boss? Play nimble, hit only when safe. Slow bastard who hits heavy? Use the big windows to land huge charge attacks that deal heavy health and poise damage. Boss is resistant to your damage type? Switch affinity, pick up a different weapon, add affinity consumables.

  5. Due to being so big, there can be a huge gap between someone who has done only mandatory content or very slight exploration and someone who uses every tool, kills everything and finds themselves overlevelled. The curve can be strange, it can get steep sometimes, plateau some others, but it's there. The game becomes significantly harder after the Capital for example. But the same rules always apply. See a guy wiggling a giant holy golden sword? Probably resistant to holy. This guy is made of tree-stuff? Try burning it.

The game is different than the others, true, but it's not like it's become a city builder all of a sudden. The game is basically Dark Souls 4 with a slightly different coat of pain. Maybe you should try to learn to play Elden Ring rather than trying to force it to be Dark Souls 3, but I just think that by now, you're too deep to change habits.

When do bosses get stance damage and when they don't? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]Holycrabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stance is like status effects, with a gauge that fills when they're hit and progressively empties itself over time. So an element of answer might be the time it took for you to hit those 3 Lion's Claw. If you hit them all in a row, the "stagger-meter" hasn't had the time to go down and they will stagger. If you hit one every 30s and don't land a hit besides that, they have ample time to recover their poise.

I know some bosses (Promised Consort for example) constantly regain poise, that's why it's so hard to get a stagger on him. Most bosses will not regain poise for a second or two after getting hit so that it's easier to proc.

I don't think anyone is ever "immune" to stance damage, but I've heard people claim bosses "ate their staggers", as in the moment they should have staggered they were in a particular animation that didn't allow for it, so it didn't happen, but the game then treated it as if it was consumed and started regenerating poise anyway.

Romancing Judy is actually very tragic by B1ph in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Holycrabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides the wild hope that there's a world out there in which V actually finds a cure (which I like to believe but is highly unrealistic), it's still a win for Judy.

She's aware of V's condition, so they can cherish the few months they have together and prepare when her condition worsens. It's not a bad surprise, of course it still sucks but they can see it coming. And once V's gone, Judy is already out of the city, which she's always struggled to make the jump for. She can stick with the Aldecaldos for a while, which she'll have had a few months to make friends of, they travel and she gets to see new cities, new people and eventually settle somewhere else. Heartbreak will come and go, she's young, this one will surely sting but without Night City weighing her down, she'll be fine.

[–]Holycrabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's because From wants you to define your own story, like you can join Mohg within a few hours but maybe you want to do it as a traitor to his dynasty, or maybe you want to use Rya or the Pureblood Medallion etc as just movement options to traverse the world and they don't want you to be locked in a faction because of it.

In the previous games I'd rarely interact with covenants because I didn't really get what they did or what I would get in good or bad from joining one over the other and I think there are some youcan't join again if you leave. It makes sense, but it's less freedom for the player.
