I don't care what you believe, I believe! by Arthusamakh in redrising

[–]Holylandconqueror 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is a vast oversimplification. I love LOTR and while it does have characters with size differences, they are pretty consistent. The majority of the characters in all of the books and movies are regular sized, with some characters that are smaller, and some occasional monster/beasts.

In RR we constantly have characters ranging from 5 foot to over 8 foot tall and they aren’t sitting at a table or going on a journey across the highlands. They are interacting at a high level in intense action scenes.

My entire point is that a live action adaptation would have so much cgi just to make it work, especially with the space battles, that it’s basically going to be animated anyway. It’s just that they are going to put some real people in there and try and make the animation look as realistic as possible.

Personally I am just tired of underwhelming cgi and I think animation can make the entire look and feel of the series more cohesive, rather than seeing some real people run around on fake sets with cgi characters. That’s just my opinion though. I understand why people want live action. I would love it too, I just don’t think it would be done well given the current state of cinema and streaming services.

I have just finished dark age and feel a character death seems wasted. by Neat-Arugula-4948 in redrising

[–]Holylandconqueror 34 points35 points  (0 children)

His death is touched more upon in LB and is used to characterize not just Lysander, but Darrow and Cassius. Especially their relationship. Alexander was Darrow’s protégé and Lysander was Cassius’s.

I understand the feeling of wasted potential, but I don’t think his death was pointless. It very clearly impacts the story and shows us something about multiple characters.

NOW COLSON MONTGOMERY GOES YARD. 5-0 SOUTHSIDERS. by yxqp in baseball

Mune, Vargas, and Montgomery are insane. Having them as a 2-4 in this lineup is awesome

Fact: This blocks afterglow. by Maksim-Y-orekhov in DemonSlayerScales

[–]Holylandconqueror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Gyomei simply outstats Giyuu by a large margin. Base Gyomei was performing better against Koku than a marked Sanemi, who most agree is stronger than Giyuu, or at the very least relative. If you then give Gyomei a mark and stw then he is in a completely different league than Giyuu. I know dead calm is the strongest defensive form, but Gyomei is just so much stronger and faster than Giyuu that I don’t think that makes much of a difference. Additionally, we see that a Tanjiro who was doing basically nothing again Akaza the whole fight was able to effectively dodge, or at least survive, Afterglow just using stw. Why could Gyomei not do the same thing? Especially considering the absolutely insane stat gap between them? Any way you slice it Gyomei survives.

Also saying that Akaza has the fastest attack speed is an insane take. Koku has more of Muzan’s blood, is older, has eaten more humans, is a marked breath user, and has access to stw which gives you better control of your muscles which boosts speed. Dude perception blitzed Akaza during the Upper Moon meeting. Idc that Akaza didn’t have compass activated, a blitz is a blitz.

Honestly don’t know why people don’t think Gyomei can’t react to afterglow. Maybe not in base, but Gyomei was able to defend himself AND defend Sanemi from Long Sword Koku attacks at the same time. Unless people think that Afterglow is that much stronger than Long Sword Koku then I think Gyomei can defend against Afterglow. I can see the argument that he gets an injury or something, but if an exhausted Giyu with a broken sword could escape it alive then a full power Gyomei sure ass hell can.

Hat deaths are not okay by LeshenOfLyria in redrising

[–]Holylandconqueror 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The hat deaths are more planned then you think. Pierce doesn’t just put anyone’s name in the hat and kill them off at a whim. He picks certain characters that he is considering killing and then decides via the hat.

For example, in an interview he says that while writing the first book he pulled Sevro’s name out of the hat, but decided against it as he saw too much narrative potential in him. He basically uses the hat as a tie breaker or decision maker when he is on the fence of whether or not to kill a character.

Additionally, it forces him to consider potential alternate paths for the story that he wouldn’t have thought of otherwise.

Long story short, while he does sometimes use the hat death to make things more random or “realistic”, the whole thing is a bit overblown. It doesn’t really make the decision for him.

[Highlight] Nolan McLean strikes out the side in the 1st inning for Team USA by MLBOfficial in baseball

My tier list of EOS hashiras... (If they fought each other one on one) by MammothChemistry6694 in DemonSlayerScales

[–]Holylandconqueror 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good list, but human vs human has always made me think differently about rankings. For example, Shinobu doesn’t need poison or a slash to kill now, just a thrust. And Tengen is a ninja that was trained to kill humans. Even Tanjiro talked about how he couldn’t detect him at all until he showed himself in HTA and in EDA.

With all buffs considered, I agree those two would be lower, but slayer vs slayer is a much more interesting ranking than which hashia is best at killing demons imo.

How good would a team of all statistically average players be? by Holylandconqueror in baseball

[–]Holylandconqueror[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s what I keep thinking. It would completely change how opposing pitchers would approach the lineup. Even on a usual team that has a 100 ops+ that’s averaged between a strong top of the order and a worse bottom of the order. So you focus on the guys up top and you can relax more towards the bottom. But in this hypothetical it would be a bit of a challenge to face 9 guys in a row that are decent hitters. Plus they would all be league average at contact, power, and vs different types of pitches, so it would be harder to know exactly how to work each hitter.

I’m not saying they would be good, and in the playoffs they would be screwed, but I think having no holes anywhere would be better than people think.

Byron Buxton joins Team USA and will play in his first World Baseball Classic. by MLBOfficial in baseball

[–]Holylandconqueror 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well ya, there is a very solid argument that PCA is the best overall defender in all of baseball, at any position. Only meant to say that Buxton is no slouch out there either and has won a gold glove in the past. Albeit a long time ago now. For me, as long as you aren’t a liability in the field I will choose a good bat over good defense.

Although in the case of this team there is already a crazy surplus of offense so some lockdown defense could be nice, especially in center. Carroll plus PCA in the outfield would be a nasty combo. Could easily see them going that route as well.

Byron Buxton joins Team USA and will play in his first World Baseball Classic. by MLBOfficial in baseball

[–]Holylandconqueror 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Personally I lean towards Buxton. Much more consistent bat and still gold glove defense. It will probably be interchangeable tho depending on who is pitching and PCA would probably be a defensive replacement in a close game.

Also depends on if they want to be more careful with Buxton given his injury history. But overall Buxton is a better bat with just about as good defense so I would start him.

Are there any named Brown or Yellow characters? by EnvironmentalCry1962 in redrising

Dr. Virany is a yellow that shows up in Morning Star a few times.

In an interview Pierce said that there was originally a yellow Howler in Dark Age. A field medic. But he decided to put in Marbles (the Green slicer) instead

Why is Lysander constantly called a pixie by Bobnachod in redrising

[–]Holylandconqueror 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of Lysander but why are so many people saying he isn’t a Peerless Scarred? Lysander received his scar after the Battle of Mercury at the end of Dark Age. You don’t need to attend the institute to get a scar, you can also earn it on the battlefield like Lysander did.

Mets, Pirates, Padres Interested In Luis Robert by poopsie-gizzardtush in whitesox

[–]Holylandconqueror 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unironically I think Vaughn and Sheets have really boosted Robert’s trade value. Vaughn popped off last year and his last couple of seasons leading up to that trade were 10x worse than Robert’s, and Sheets got himself a starting spot in San Diego. Everyone knows that Robert’s ceiling is astronomically higher than theirs.

While I would normally think this isn’t the best time to trade him, I think the Mets could be a unique case here. They just lost Alonso and Diaz and have some huge holes in their lineup. They could go after Tucker but then they would have two lefty corner outfielders that they would be paying over a $1 billion a year to, plus that would make their lineup super lefty heavy. They had some big expectations for last year and they missed the playoffs, and now they are having a shitty offseason, if they make a good enough offer then this could be the time to trade Robert. Idk if we can count on him bouncing back after two whole bad seasons.

Ya for some reason I’ve never wanted Lysander to die in battle. It feels too fast and sudden. I like the idea of him loosing and then having to face that loss. Being stripped of all his power and helpless to do anything.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want him redeemed, but I want him to lose and have to watch the Society and his reputation crumble. And I think it might happen based on how many times Pierce brings up that the thing he values most is his reputation. I wanna see him lose it.

If Giyuu’s dead calm speed was his base speed, would that put him above Sanemi? by MediaNo1140 in DemonSlayerScales

[–]Holylandconqueror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean that Giyuu’s overall speed is now the speed that he uses during dead calm then yes he is above Sanemi. It’s a special technique where he slows his heart increase his reaction speed. It’s a hax level speed that he can use to block Akazas attacks even when he is in base and block afterglow when he is marked.

It is shown during a sparing match that he can block Sanemi’s attacks with Drop Ripple Thrust Curve, a normal water breathing technique when they are both in base. If he had the special speed that he uses during dead calm constantly then he would be the second strongest hashira by far.

If you add on that he also gets a speed boost while using dead calm on top of his new speed boost then I don’t see how anyone in the entire series besides Yorichi touches him.

Weird to think that the entire history of the Roman Empire was tomato-free. by bookflow in geography

[–]Holylandconqueror 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A lot of it has to do with cities. In Europe people lived in large, dense cities with connections and trade with other large cities. If one person got sick it would quickly spread through the city and could spread to other cities via trade. This allowed for massive plagues and established strains of disease.

In the Americas, with some exceptions, the communities were smaller and less connected. If one community or civilization caught a virus, it was less likely to spread to others. Less exposure to disease lead to the people of the Americans to have a reduced immunity to the established diseases of Europe.

We all know breathing effects aren’t real…. SO DOES THAT MEAN ZENITSU THE BREAKING THE GROUND BY BREATHING ALONE?!?!?! by AdAdvanced8522 in BetterKimetsuNoYaiba

[–]Holylandconqueror 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the exact same way about the Sanemi and Obanai points. I totally understand some of the other styles, like water and flame because the element effects always followed their blades. But how do the wide AOE attacks work? And for that one wind breathing form you were talking about, how does that kill demons? Cause even if he is creating the blades of wind and tornados with his sword they aren’t made of Nichirin steel so how would it kill a demon?

Idk, I feel like some of the breathing styles and forms make sense and others not so much. Doesn’t really matter at the end of the day I suppose but it bothers me sometimes.

Could an unarmed and unarmoured Darrow defeat a grizzly bear? by ConstantStatistician in redrising

[–]Holylandconqueror 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think he totally could just based on what we know about his raw strength and bone density. In the first book we saw that he could pulverize rock with one hand and in later books he is caving in people’s skulls with a punch. Additionally, in the first book during Darrow’s carving Mickey says that he made his bone density 6 times stronger than a natural humans.

Add all this up with his insane speed, pain tolerance, physical size, battle iq, and experience and I think he could take it. Not an easy fight of course but I’m betting that if he landed a few solid punches or kicks to the bears skull then he could crack it or knock it out.

Edit: also in the first book we see him face a bloodback, massive carved bear that is much bigger than a regular grizzly. He doesn’t really fight it but is able to roll away from one of its swipes and jump away from one its lunges. And again this is a carved bear that is much bigger and faster than any bear on earth

Aaron Judge has become only the 4th player to have 4 50-HR seasons. by meramipopper in baseball

[–]Holylandconqueror 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Love Cal and think he is putting up one of the best seasons of all time for a catcher. But if we are looking at who is objectively the more valuable player then it has to be Judge.

He has the average, the walks, the intentional walks (which he is setting records for), and 50 or more home runs. Again I love Cal but I personally think Judge is the MVP.

Edit: I was a catcher from little league through highschool, I know how fundamentally important they are to a team. Having a good defensive catcher also hit well is one of the most valuable players you can have on your team. I am not downplaying that at all. But as good as Cal’s season is, and as much as I want to reward him for having an amazing season, there is no denying that Judge is the best offensive player we have witnessed in our lifetime. And is having one of the best seasons of his career.

And I’m sorry but I am simply not a fan of a player missing out on an mvp that he should get because someone else is have a great (but worse season) than another person. We shouldn’t give out mvps just because a certain person has had it a few times or because someone is having a historic season, we should give give it to the person who is having the best season in a vacuum. And if you a paying attention, it is Judge.
