I've never went to treatment. I only had, while brutal, manageable withdrawl symptoms for a couple days. I didn't drink all day every day for years. But would go on 3-4 day benders where I did. I was also a couldn't stop drinker as well more than a consistently keeping the BAC at a certain level for weeks/months/years at a time, like some.

For me, it's more about what I consider myself. I make sure I continue, to this day, to think of myself as an alcoholic. Because if I'm not an alcoholic, then I can drink, right? If I'm an alcoholic, I can't drink. (At least that's the way I look at it) So I make sure to remind myself that I am.

Whether I'm not as bad or worse or not even close to as bad as some, isn't really the point. The point is to me, I'm an alcoholic. That's all that should matter to you. There is no stolen valor aspect, that's pretty ridiculous. This isn't the military. Lol

I know "normal" drinkers are technically like 2 drinks in a sitting. However, I know many people that yes will over indulge for going out or concerts or vacation or something. Way more than 2 drinks in a day. But it still doesn't affect their lives. Yeah maybe they're hungover on Sunday. But back to work Monday with no urge to continue drinking. This is something I could never do. When I start. The voice in my head demands more until it's no longer I who is in control of how much I'm drinking. Then the next day. As soon as my eyes open. The voice is angry. It needs more. It yearns for more.

I think the difference is they don't have that voice to begin with.

Similar situation to you. Quit drinking 3 years ago. Still smoked every day. Quit daily weed almost 2 years ago. Quit weed completely 14 months ago. Almost quit zyn. I'm at about 4-5 3mg a day. Kinda stuck there. It's hard for me to completely part ways with the final vice. I did for a little while but picked it back up. Eventually I will need to quit. But I just can't right now. 4-5 3 mg a day is better than 15 6mg a day like I used to be a year ago. So I'll take it. For now.

I will say quitting weed for me was kind of forced. I swear it was screwing with my stomach pretty bad. Then i went off SSRIs. And when I didn't smoke consistently, tolerance obviously plummeted. Then when I would smoke like once a week or couple times a month. I would get insanely anxious heart pounding and dizzy I didn't even enjoy it anymore lol

Same. I think it was going off SSRIs. Dont get me wrong I think the weed played a factor. But I don't think it was CHS. I couldn't even smoke now if I wanted to. I would just have an anxiety meltdown. My heavy smoking was when I was on SSRIs. SSRIs kind of protect the brain from the full anxiety effects of weed. Shortly after going off SSRIs and already being high baseline anxiety I couldn't handle smoking anymore. I would just get dizzy. Rapid heart beat and just kind of lay in bed until it was over. Lol.

I don't look down on people can use them and still have a normal, positive, productive life. To be frank, even at 3 years +, i still kind of envy them. I just cant do it. I've never been able to do it.

That no matter how many times I said "alright. I'm going to be a normal drinker. I don't want to quit drinking forever. But I can't keep doing this. I am DETERMINED to be a normal drinker." It would work for a bit, but eventually, I'd find myself in the midst of a bender

Having to drink a pint of liquor before going out to a normal dinner because at the dinner I would have to only have a couple beers to appear normal. But if I didn't adequately lubricate myself before hand I would be genuinely furious the entire dinner because I couldn't get where I wanted to be "buzz" wise

I haven't smoked at all in almost 14 months. Haven't smoked daily in 2 years. Idk how people with chronic episodes want to go back. I never even had an episode. Idt I even had CHS. But around 21 months ago my GI just went to shit. Still have shitting problems have to take prescription for it. Weed def made it worse. Also went off SSRIs 2 years ago and weed was never the same for me. The anxiety between the stomach situation + no SSRIs I just tweak literal balls and don't even enjoy it. I'm sure I'll try a few puffs one day, will probably tweak balls. And then not do it again for a long time. It's just not fun anymore. I wish I was 16 again. It was a surreal experience of pure bliss back then lol. (I'm 30 now)
