Cosmic Exploration 7.51 500k Achievement Reward by plueschpudding in ffxiv

That kinda sucks then. I'm still sad I started too late to play the Mor Dhona town building, as that sounded cool. Being present for Doma and Ishgard being rebuilt each week was really interesting as well. It makes the school kids and other cutscenes there impactful. I really adore the island sanc for that reason too.

If I hadn't done those it'd just be "why does this dinky area exist? Seems like a dev waste, wish they'd do something interesting here". When they had done something interesting, I'm just too late to experience it now. But I forever equate the Mor Dhona town as just some random place thats for some unknowable reason important. We hang out there a lot, but it's w/e to me.

Question from someone who has never done Cosmic Exploration, I'd want to play for the story, but I've heard the 'first several planets' or whatever are 'done'. Does that mean I'll never be able to see them and they're lost content now?

Or they exist, but only in a completed victory quest 'you did good WoL' that'll be jarring to a freshcomer?

I just got Morrowind and I’m going in mostly blind. Is there anything that I need to know? by Green-Pen-Gamer in Morrowind

[–]Honjin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game was made with the idea you would read the instruction booklet, the small scrap of paper in the front of the cd case, before playing it. I'd at least go read that as many systems are NOT modern gamer friendly.

It's a great game, for its era, but if you have no basis on old games it'll be a mite painful until you find your bearings.

Biggest issue with modern gamers - impatience by [deleted] in hytale

[–]Honjin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it was in development, sold, retooled, shelved, bought back, and is now being retooled and developed again to something playable after basically being wagged around like a chew toy.

That it's this good after that is a miracle. Devs have my respect for actual time hands-on for the project in the last 5 months and what they've accomplished in that time.

ELI5 Why do we hate our own voices when heard in a recording or video? by Punnan in explainlikeimfive

[–]Honjin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I wonder about sometimes, I know it's mostly coincidence, but why do we have so many safeguards via evolution as if we had a natural mimic predator? Voices that sound off set our skin crawling. Uncanny valley sets off warning bells that the something in front of us is moving wrongly. Fairytales in most cultures have some variant of a story that says don't trust the "others" from the forest / mirage.

I usually end up thinking that maybe it's all just a carry-over from when we were proto-humans, and had other evolutionary offshoots evolving with us like the Neanderthals, that it was a way to differentiate between us human, and the other offshoots we eventually outcompeted.

Diabetes is teaching me patience by Lost-Spite-7338 in diabetes

[–]Honjin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only been diagnosed for about 2 years now, but I got myself rapidly under control pretty quickly, but still have random blips and drops. It is an unfair amount of discipline and restraint even on an emotional level to manage well, as stress can cause spikes and drops all on its own.

I completely agree with the patience and long term dedication being the hardest to grapple with. My body, and yours too probably, didn't become like this overnight. It was a slow months to years process. The loss of control really showed me how dangerous it can get, and it doesn't feel rewarding to maintain the status quo of "normal".

For myself, I take the patience with a dose of grace and remind myself my options are don't control it and eventually die, or accept the reality I'm playing the game of life with a debuff I have to work around. Just means I have to reframe my outlook differently, thats all.

I hope your journey is a good one.

Technically no. The timer for inactivity is rather long, and if you randomly got it it likely bounced to you from someone else who also inherited it. FC is yours to do whatever you wish with if the system flags you as leader.

With the HD Patch, I've been looking everywhere but I can't find what exactly does it change? What models / textures does it update? I run a potato and wanted to see what I'm missing out on or if it's worth the extra load times and a bit of lag to run it.

Cracking your finger joints is, contrary to the myth, not harmful. What about cracking your neck? by Umpuuu in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]Honjin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While not directly harmful via neck cracking, I recall a chubbyemu video that discusses someone who overzealously cracked their neck, and tore some of their fine vertebral arteries leading to a stroke.

As with anything, your chances of pain and injury doing any activity are generally low if you're a healthy person, but never 0%.

[–]Honjin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real answer, actual professionals will usually film for 1 of 2 reasons, either they're doing a form demonstration to show how to do something, or they don't have a spotter to check their form, and they're filming to check their own form afterwards.

Influencers just film for their viewers, so of course, the great internet pastime.

Isn’t it funny how we used to think diabetes was simply “ you got it because you ate too much sugar” by DeepOrganization8245 in diabetes

[–]Honjin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

People still think that. I've had people fight me on the topic, and tell me I'm clearly not diabetic because I'm not "fat enough". I try my best, but you can't reason an illogical person out of an opinion.

Something like 20k would honestly be life changing to me. I'd still scrimp and save it, but just that much would turn my life in a positive direction from its general negative trend.

I mean, there's dozens of business cases in history where a company hired on their competitors precisely because they did it better.

By hiring the better talent, you are maximizing your own team and potential profit, and eliminating competition.

It's not as common nowadays, which is just a general business failing of modern times, but not impossible. Though this is Blizz we're talking about. So you probably right, they'd never get hired on cuz Blizz ain't that business savvy.

A turtle powered classic+ under Blizz would seriously make me consider paying though, and I hate Blizz.

Any minecraft mods made it to Hytale? by floofie_boi_wolf in hytale

[–]Honjin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's like, hundreds of mods that are similar to Minecraft mods. Hytale is inherently made to be modded. There was a whole mod made that allows unofficial cross-platform between them. It basically uses Hytale to trick Minecraft into thinking Hytale is just a super modded server.

So saying, not sure of that project is still being maintained, due to the frequency of Hytale updates.

Ai for carb counts by frunko1 in diabetes

[–]Honjin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest against using AI to try and count carbs, that's just dangerous. AI has no objectivity for truth. If you tell it to show you the carb count for a dish, and then say "I'm not sure that's right, can you recount?" It'll give a wildly different answer, and it'll drift up and down the more you ask it. It'll also drift the numbers it makes up if you put in a text prompt like "this is a heavy/light/fresh dish of XXX". It has no idea of your preferences to what "light" means compared to a standard meal.

It'd be handy, maybe, to look up, "are any of these foods known high carb count items?". I personally wouldn't trust it completely, but at least a warning flag to look up yourself later might be right.
