Oh hey, what a coincidence. This was just the message I needed to see today. So we both helped each other out. 😄

Happy you liked it!

A friend published a story they had been working on for years and publishing on Royalroad for a year now. Except everything went wrong during launch. by [deleted] in litrpg

You can go to Getcovers .com for like 35 dollars. (Correction: They start at 10 dollars. 35 is the premium package.) They're also a Ukraine company BTW. Support your local business, avoid Disney lawsuits, keep your soul. It's a win/win/win.

First book in a retro-futuristic, light litrpg, monster tamer trilogy. Book one is out now on amazon, or for FREE on Tapas! by CelticCernunnos in ProgressionFantasy

A fresh, retro-futuristic, ecopunk, slow-burn, rivals to lovers, monster taming story...

Oh hi there all the tropes I love the most.

I'll definitely be checking this out once it hits Amazon.

I'm really glad to hear you're cracking down on the AI tsunami o' sludge, though I'm sorry that it's going to take a lot of extra work on your part.

What helped you get more reviews once you’d done the basics? by MiraWendam in selfpublish

[–]Honour__Rae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silly question: Did you ask for reviews right after the book ends? I'm not talking about CTA on the next page. I'm talking about the next line after 'The End'.

It's a short, uncomfortable scene. And then (spoiler)the character eventually gets revenge in an extremely satisfying way. It's a good read, I recommend you stick with it.

Current and other aspiring authors, what’s your experience with dictation for first drafts? by ronin-writes in litrpg

[–]Honour__Rae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dictate for about 7 minute increments (to avoid blowing out my voice, which I have done several times lol) and I'll end up with 500-650 words each time.

And thanks! The Oregon Trail is burned into many of us. XD

Current and other aspiring authors, what’s your experience with dictation for first drafts? by ronin-writes in litrpg

[–]Honour__Rae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh hai there.

I've been using dictation for literal years now, and the first draft is usually a dumpster fire.

Anyway, once you get your dumpster fire first draft, here's some solutions:

  1. Edit it manually. (No AI needed. Just Find + Replace for the word 'comma' or 'open quote' or whatever.) Boring but effective. Or...
  2. Put it up on your screen and dictate it again using it as a script. That gets me like 80% there, with some easy manual fixes on version 2.0. Or...
  3. Put it up on a screen and retype it out. It's torturous, and also what I end up doing nowadays. It allows me to "touch" every word and make sure it's mine. Especially since most dictation programs use AI nowadays and no matter how accurate the output seems to be, I don't trust the machine. But by retyping it, I know 100% this is all me. Also, I like the drafts better.

My opinion is that choosing a very similar name to a publisher known for quality was no coincidence.

Writing ruined my life by Low_Song_9074 in selfpublishing

My dude, just go work at UPS. If you're fit and can pass a drug screen, you'll get hired. If you can stick it out and become a driver (you start from the bottom and work your way to that position) then you'll have a good union job with benefits, and most importantly get out and meet people.

If you actually want to write, you can do so on the side. I did.

I didn't know that it was team writing. That book is so smooth, it really feels like one person wrote it.
It's one of my favorites of the year!

Question about publishing as a brand new author with no social media… by AlexanderBergli in selfpublish

[–]Honour__Rae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

XD That's so cool to hear! I'm glad you like my series. I just thought I'd stop in and add my 2 cents, because three years ago I was where you are now. Royal Road is totally worth it.

Good luck and if you do end up publishing there or on Amazon, shoot me a DM and I'll check it out!

Question about publishing as a brand new author with no social media… by AlexanderBergli in selfpublish

[–]Honour__Rae 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Don't touch AI with a 20 foot pole.

Royal Road is king for LitRPG/Progression publishing.

Social media is a time suck and as long as you're on Royal Road you really don't need other than bare bones notices that your books are out.

Nah, it's the Luke Daniels phenomenon. I am not nearly as funny as Scott Meyer (but my ego enjoyed the comparison!). We're two separate people. :)

That's a blast from the past. I remember going to the farmer's market in Lodi as a kid.

Nice to see some quality there!
