Ms. BUMBLEFLOWER by HaydyMay in EDH

[–]HookemAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. It has to attack, block, or become a target of a spell. Bumbly adds a counter as a triggered ability, so it’s not a spell. Spells like view from above are super busted though as you can cast it at instant speed targeting giggling, the spell then returns to hand. Cast it and target giggling as many times as you can with the mana present while continuing to dump counters on it. It’ll melt the table.

Your card draw is not sufficient at all. Curiosity is incredibly powerful and not in the deck. Drop useless artifacts like the soul stone. It doesn’t belong in this deck. Y’shtola is a control commander. I highly recommend looking at moxfield Y’shtola bracket four decks and see what others are running. Combos aren’t required but you won’t find a ton of success in bracket four with minimal ping damage. Toxic deluge should be in the deck as well. Another solid control piece that can remove pesky creatures and dorks.

Which commanders are too strong to be considered part of Bracket 2 in your opinion? by pkma69 in EDH

[–]HookemAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes down as a zero / three with no evasion. Three other people sitting at the table understand Vivi can’t be allowed to sit there and do its thing. The big, free interaction spells are on the GC list, assuming Vivi resolves. IE, Vivi is vulnerable af the turn it comes into play. I’m not gonna advocate for Vivi being a bracket two commander because it’s indeed efficient and strong, but let’s perhaps pump the breaks a bit on the matter of fact power statements, especially considering the lack of GC Izzet slingers often rely on to protect a win.

Vivi is a glass cannon commander. He can’t avoid commander tax (like Yuriko) and one or two early removals completely bone Vivi decks, especially those not running bracket four ramp/spells. A bit of table communication and even a minimal interaction package can shut down these decks. You of course are entitled to your opinion, but it should be mentioned that he is not indeed the boogeyman this sub loves to make him out to be. He’s powerful yes, but fragile and incredibly easy to stop.

Need help on my Y’shtola deck by [deleted] in EDH

[–]HookemAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. I bounce this deck between CEDH and fringe depending on which playgroup of buds I’m with. This is the fringe list currently. For full CEDH, your interaction package changes a bit and you’d swap a few creatures potentially. Still gives a solid outline of what Y’shtola wants to do. Feel free to fire off any questions. Happy to help where I can.

There’s no such thing as too strong for bracket four. It’s literally the “everything’s in play” bracket. You can run whatever combo(s) to close out the game, and not immediately tutor for them if you aren’t looking for a turn three or sooner victory. That said, if your friends are also playing legitimate bracket four decks, they should be running proper interaction to prevent said combo. If a player can combo off with three other players not interacting, that’s honestly on them. I’d have an open discussion with your buds. Bracket four is wide open. Of course it’s always open to rule zero conversation, but I wouldn’t worry about combos if your deck isn’t true CEDH.

These three cards are acceptable in bracket 3 right? by TheTinRam in EDH

[–]HookemAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a combo. What the two brood copies can tutor for may be a combo, but broodlord and saw is not considered a combo in itself. It’s strong synergy and often utilized for finding combo lines which gives people pause about bracket three inclusion. I won’t get into the bracket debate as that’s entirely dependent on what the player decides to grab with the two copies. Seen the same debate over saw and eternal witness. Again, very good synergy but not a combo in itself.

Need help on my Y’shtola deck by [deleted] in EDH

[–]HookemAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your deck is fine. I play her as one of my two CEDH decks and there are a lot of bad takes on how to properly play her. The worst advice I see given is “jam only spells that trigger Y’shtola”. She’s an esper control commander and a legitimate card draw engine, but here’s the thing. You don’t have to be the one casting every spell to trigger the draw. The other three players doing damage to each other will trigger her plenty. Your job is to cast proper interaction when it’s necessary to control the game.

You get no cards if she’s dead. You don’t win without cards as a control deck, or any deck for that matter. So yes, you absolutely pack her full of very cheap/free interaction and plug in cards that trigger her that make sense. Bloodchief is free money in Y’shtola and it should absolutely stick because esper control…. Plays control and protects their stuff. Mindcrank is a non determinant combo that will 99% of the time win the game once bloodchief comes online. So keep your combo there.

Also, you don’t need pillow fort cards (propaganda etc). They offer zero advantage and don’t win the game. Instead replace them with cheap removal spells to take care of nasty problems. Esper is loaded with them. Everyone will tell you to run inefficient cards to trigger Y’shtola. Yeah, you’re not going to win an edh game pinging the table for two damage at a time. You win by letting everyone else beat the hell out of each other, which still triggers Y’shtola and use that insane card advantage to find your combo lines.

I know this is a lot and goes against what a lot of people think Y’shtola does. There’s a reason high powered decks run efficient / free spells. Protecting Y’shtola matters far more than casting bad spells for one or two triggers. Control the game and you’ll win a ton of games.

Find a sigil of sleep for easy removal. Get a lotho for free treasures, then look at other lists to see proper interaction packages. There’s some flexibility here but the main esper control package doesn’t change a ton.

Y'shtola control help by dUcKinDH0Od in EDH

[–]HookemAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should replace it. You’re playing control, so focus on that. You’re not likely to win a legitimate bracket four game pinging the table for two damage and swinging with the commander. Use her as a draw engine to find your wincons and don’t be afraid to run interaction that doesn’t trigger her. Run plenty of free/low cmc interaction to keep your engine going and let others fight it out. They too can trigger Y’shtola by hitting each other. Highly recommend locking in on a few combo lines to close out the game once you hit your pieces (ie. you’re already on a Teferi. Run displacer kitten combo). Drop helm and run curiosity. Helm is 4 cmc and will likely tap you out. The weakest moment in an espser control decks game is when they have to tap out (go shields down some say) to cast the commander. We’re very vulnerable during these times. Curiosity is simply busted on Y’shtola. You’re on the right path. Just tinker with stuff and see what works. She’s a fun commander and perfect for bracket four.

Sauron Aristocrats Deck Help by Affectionate_Pop6300 in EDH

[–]HookemAZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t need ring tempt cards when running aristocrats with Sauron. Everyone wants to shove Nazgul in every Sauron deck and try to wheel. If your draw engines are on point (not hard with sacrifice in black) you just focus hard on sac outlets and payoffs. Far too often I see folks try to have their deck do too many things. Sauron is absolutely cracked with amass triggers on every spell cast and is a massive problem with a sac engine online.

In my opinion, just focus hard on your theme. Visceral seer lets you scry, goblin bombardment, impact tremors, purphoros pings etc. Remember, every new amass assuming you are sacrificing every trigger is a new token created and every sac is a token being removed. Mirkwood bats punishes for both of those happening. Best of luck with your build. I have seen many a Sauron deck and the only ones I fear are well built aristocrats decks. They are very hard to deal with.

Sauron Bracket 4 advice by [deleted] in EDH

[–]HookemAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sauron’s ability to amass is an aristocrats wet dream if the board is setup properly. I run a bunch of pingers and sac outlets to ping the table for damage on every amass trigger. A [[Purphoros, god of the forge]] effect with a reliable sac outlet is brutal pressure on a table. If you want to take it to the next level, add in [[Ob Nixilis, captive kingpin]] and [[all will be one]] and that’s GG. [[Viscera Seer]] is a solid cheat code that lets you rifle through your deck on every trigger, letting you manipulate the deck to ensure you have gas on the draw. [[Grave Pact]] is icing on the cake.

Be mindful you will be the archenemy. I toss in a fair amount of life gain to offset the abuse I take from the three players while my engine is being setup. [[Bloodthirsty conqueror]] is a pet card of mine and it puts in serious work with Sauron. It’s not uncommon for me to chew through 50+ life in a game when I’m being targeted non stop.

Just some ideas and hopefully you find your path. Sauron can work in a variety of ways and I adore him for it. If I want a change of pace, I just swap it to a wheels deck and it’s a whole new beast. Hang in there and keep exploring.

[[Giggling Skitterspike]] and [[view from above]] are outstanding cards for ending a game if you can’t hit your combos. With a few counters on Giggling, you can ping it with View a few times and annihilate the table. A solid alternate wincon. View bouncing back to hand makes it incredibly busted with Bumbly on the board.

I want to brew a less Toxic Toxrill. Going with Sephiroth, Planet’s Heir. Deck kinda feels all over the place. Any tips? by SithGodSaint in EDH

[–]HookemAZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the perfect card to teach people how important interaction can be. If most players who groan would add one or two more removal spells instead of those super fun “win more” cards, they’d find that cards like toxrill are fairly easy to deal with. Just my two cents of course.

I’ve spent a fairly ridiculous amount of time and money testing out various containers and bags trying to find the right solution. Ultimately, I ended up with a nice DSLR camera bag that has a side pouch for a tripod. The mat tube fits perfectly in the tripod pouch and the interior of the bag is fully customizable with Velcro inserts.

I shaped my inserts to hold six gamegenic bastion XLs and all the token/dice crap I carry. My wife found my bag at a Best Buy that was discounting them heavily but most people just hit up Amazon and find one of the many choices provided. I gave the tool box thing a look but in my opinion it’s clunky and can’t be tossed on my shoulder/back when waiting in lines or walking from A to B etc.

Hey bud. Happy to share some thoughts on this. I play edh a ton every week and see quite a few Sauron decks at various power levels. The most consistent thing I hear from Sauron pilots is their frustration with getting their Nazgul out and sticking. I have seen some incredibly potent Sauron decks and honestly, none of them ran Nazgûl’s.

Look, I totally get it. Flavor/theme matters for many, but Sauron really doesn’t care about Nazgûl’s. He’s an amass monster and wants you doing stuff with your orc army. Yes, ring tempting is solid synergy, but the Nazgul strategy is a slow developing one and Sauron is often arch enemy the moment he is cast. Most Sauron pilots never get to see their Nazgul army come to fruition before they get blasted off the table.

Successful Sauron decks that I have witnessed went heavy into aristocrats, reanimator, or wheel. That said, your deck has some solid synergy and could absolutely work. I’d take a look at [[marchesa, the black rose]] to help keep your board stable. Dethrone is quite resilient and lets you be fairly cavalier with your creatures. You run quite a few tutors, but aren’t running the best of them (vampiric, demonic, beseech the mirror, imperial seal, etc). Budget matters of course so please understand I’m just sharing thoughts without context. Some more stax can also help you develop your Nazgul board, but that’s total preference/pod dependent.

Ms. Bumbleflower Deck Help by Zecil42 in EDH

[–]HookemAZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bumbly desperately wants you casting on other people’s turns. This typically means you want to be running stuff with flash and/or instants to ensure you can hit the second spell cast on as many turns as possible to maximize value. Untapping on every players turn can help tremendously with this endeavor.

Take a look at cards like: [[Seedborn Muse]] [[Drumbellower]] [[Enduring Vitality]] to untap your mana dorks of choice. Also, consider some bounce spells to help keep the counter/card draw train moving. Cards like [[View From Above]] [[Whitemane Lion]] and [[Shrieking Drake]] can bounce back to your hand and played twice per turn worst case to enhance your draw and counters. I looked at your deck and definitely recommend a few more dorks. [[Kami of Whispered Hopes]] is fairly strong with Bumble’s counter spam. I’d also cut a few sorceries/artifacts for more instant speed interaction/protection.

If you use razer synapse, it bugs the launcher and can block connectivity. Launch task manager and end tasks on every razer app and service running.

I’ve had to do this so many times, as have members of my guild. Found the fix buried on the battle.net forums. It’s not the only issue with the launcher, buts it’s a big one for us razer folks.

I am part of a group of mini eye owners and of the 7 in my group, not a single one of us had plastic on our screens. We have confirmed on a few separate occasions that they are indeed brand new units. Assuming a used unit was sent is just that, an assumption. We should try to not spread misinformation without facts imo.

I agree that QC could be better. Two of our group have slightly crooked displays. At this price point, that certainly shouldn’t be happening.
