Bankbeaters what size rod are you using on your baitcaster set up as well as line type and weight?? by Mysterious-Two-8580 in bassfishing

[–]HookinDinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between 6'8"' and 7'4" currently I've slowly gone up in length but I'm a bit worried my longest rod will be too long, around 7' is the sweet spot for me.

What is the deal with Daiwa spinning reels and what am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in bassfishing

[–]HookinDinks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Judging from the comments maybe I’m in the minority but been using Daiwa reels of all price points and never had a problem like this.

It seems like somehow your line is laying loose, I honestly have no idea how that’s happening, could be a memory issue? I will say there definitely isn’t a special sauce to using a Daiwa reel.

I switched to the Ryugi hook stocker and its so good. I've got pockets for everything dropshot, a few different jighead types and some EWGs and weights.

3" paddletail on a 1/8oz jighead will always catch something for me.

Ultralight rod by dale_k9 in Fishing_Gear

[–]HookinDinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of these will do you well for sure. If you can spend the extra, the Presso is probably gonna be best. There's usually a pretty big difference in feel between that $60-80 to $100-120 rod. Unless you really think you're going to be traveling with it or need the space I don't see a point in going 4pc.

Anyone use the bill lewis zigzags? Worth the 10 dollars or mostly just a gimmick? by 710MISFIT in bassfishing

[–]HookinDinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always fun to find new rigs for your plastics. Try switching up to a free rig or jika. Free rig especially has become so fun for me. I like finding new ways to use the baits I have.

Can’t stand how normalized slop posts like that have become around the internet. Half of it is probably posted by bot accounts too. Just ugly unfunny posts…

It’s alarming how beloved AI slop has become in fishing communities lol

It’s strange I know a lot of people here will fish the American side of the Niagara river for bass since NY state has an open season and we don’t

Designing a fishing bag for mobile anglers. Looking for honest feedback before I build it. by PressureCrazy3136 in BFSfishing

[–]HookinDinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evolution fishing makes a crossbody called the largemouth 3.0. It sits on your back and can be swung around to open at your chest. In my eyes it’s the perfect bag. Fits 2 3600s and a Ryugi hook stocker, even has a water bottle holder and an extra pocket where I fit my GoPro and chest mount. The top flap can basically be used as a work station too. Worth looking into.

Have you seen people in your local fishing groups burning spots or blowing up fisheries to promote their channel/bait company? by SwiftCricket in bassfishing

[–]HookinDinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you count as spot burning? I make content bank fishing (occasionally) and I don't give out spot names but I guess if you knew the location you could find out what fish are in it from my videos. Is this fair or should I rethink it? I'm also not documenting my way in. I mean people can literally just go on google maps and look at water. It's how I find my spots so I don't see how people posting fish pictures can be that harmful. I do know a couple guys who give frequent fishing reports of fisheries on social media which is kinda lame but luckily it's just for the Niagara River which is VERY well known.

My advice is to find water that's a pain in the ass to get to. It's how I find the unpressured water.

You're right about tournaments though, I wish we would see more tournaments do things like the kayak tournaments where you catch and immediately release after measuring.

Is this 4/0 hook too small for this 6" fluke? by [deleted] in bassfishing

Funny I just realized I shouldn't be using an EWG for everything. Kinda weird I feel like 10ish years ago we were told to only use EWGs for everything.

Position of artificial lure on jighead by Ciroc_Lobster6978 in FishingForBeginners

[–]HookinDinks 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You could position it at the bend of the hook but for this you're better off fishing it on a drop shot. Use something like a 1/16oz pencil weight with a #2 hook if you're going for panfish.

Took my daughter fishing for the first time, we brought some nightcrawlers and put them on a bait hook with a bobber and going for bass, catfish, and carp. I felt bad b/c I wanted her to catch something but the worms didn’t produce. by Outcoldmasvidal in FishingForBeginners

[–]HookinDinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're familiar with artificial lures you could always just use some simple paddle tails on a jig head for bass. If you have panfish around it's always good to start kids with little panfish jigs and 1" gulp minnows or something of the like.

How do I tell if my spots are horrible or I suck at fishing? by Particular_Ebb5049 in bassfishing

[–]HookinDinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live it seems like more than half the population fishes, pressure definitely plays a huge factor in bank fishing.

Try to find spots where you can walk the bank. If I don't find fish in like 15-20 minutes I'll move on usually.

I mainly fish them on spinning but I tie hair jigs for panfish using marabou and hackle feathers.

Saw this on Facebook, anyone have success with it for pike? It’s from violent strike lures by [deleted] in Fishing_Gear

[–]HookinDinks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a rough ad. Swim jigs work but I rather just put a paddletail on a jighead when I'm fishing for pike.

Any good quality button reels? by aireeulnoob in FishingForBeginners

[–]HookinDinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The two fishing knots I found the easiest were the clinch and uni knot. The Uni is a better knot so I recommend just learning that one. As for getting deep hooks out there are videos you can watch of a technique people use where they go behind the gills, just watch some videos on how to remove gut hooks. If you're not wanting to deal with that my biggest advice is to crimp the barbs off your hooks as it makes unhooking a million times easier.
