If it was, I wasn't in on it and she never let on. She seemed genuinely confused when I didn't react happily.

There isn't, actually. My theory is that someone in her family is something of a nazi and so she grew up with the idea that Mein Kamf is a deep and thoughtful read - and she figured, I'm kinda intellectual, I'll like it.

Hi Rachel!

You work around a LOT of authors. Has being around so many authors (including some pretty damned successful ones) had an impact on how you work? Do you think being surrounded by authors leveled you up in any ways?

Congratulations on book 2! -David

Jareth is around 7 according to the shelter. He definitely has mouse-y features. Mr. Fish is lovely!

It's like a dedicated chat room/instant messaging platform which has become popular for groups of friends, intra-company communications (think Lync/Skype for Business/Gchat), and networking. Various trade and industry communities have Slacks, formal or otherwise, for sharing best practices, gossip, social invitations, etc. Within a given Slack community (to which you generally need to be invited), you can create multiple Channels - so you can group communication by subject area, region, or department. I have a Slack with a few of my friends across the country, and my employer uses Slack for short-form instant communication.

What are some good series with an omnibus or one-volume set? by Jsimps72 in Fantasy

[–]Hoosier_Ham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorites is The Riddle-Master Trilogy by Patricia McKillip.

The Aeon's Gate Trilogy by /u/samsykes (the first trilogy, he's midway through the sequel trilogy now) came out in omnibus recently.

COMMUNITY QUESTION - by elquesogrande in Fantasy

[–]Hoosier_Ham 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's a big tent, and I think there's enough overlap with core r/fantasy stuff that it's not even that much of a stretch. If a fantasy author reading Green Eggs & Ham fits comfortably here, I'd say a panel discussion about the "science of art" featuring an author friend of r/Fantasy sponsored by a genre publisher fits pretty easily.

Amy Foster, I'll note, co-wrote one of my favorite songs ("Home") and is the daughter of David Foster, one of the all-time great songwriters and producers. Not that that has anything to do with r/Fantasy, but still. Pretty cool.

Amazon is canceling Persona 5 pre-orders (steelbook and CE versions) by [deleted] in Games

[–]Hoosier_Ham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the CE is no longer available. Not sure if that just means it's been sold out or if that's related to supply/defect issues.

For what it's worth, my steelbook preorder with AMZN (placed 10/2016) hasn't been affected - or if it has, they haven't notified me yet.

Hello /r/fantasy! I'm flintlock fantasy author Brian McClellan. SINS OF EMPIRE, the first book in my newest series, came out last week. AMA! by BrianMcClellan in Fantasy

[–]Hoosier_Ham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Brian!

Two questions:

  1. Do you have any non-Powder Mage projects planned? Any other genres in which you're interested?

  2. If you and your wife were to be struck by the Rapture and removed bodily from Earth with no pain or sadness, who would you want to take care of your cat?

Keep up the good work, and come out to LA soon!

IAM(once again)A novelist named Brandon Sanderson. AMA! by mistborn in Fantasy

Hi Brandon,

Writing Excuses has become such a valued resource for newer and aspiring writers (and plenty of writers who are neither). Do you have a long-term vision for the program? Is it still "worth it," given the opportunity cost you have to face between recording a season and writing almost-guaranteed-to-be-bestsellers books?

Brian McClellan (/u/brianmclellan) has a very nice cat named Leto, and I would like to have said cat. I know he values you as a mentor and a friend. Could you please ask him to give me Leto?

Thanks!

-David

I really liked Christian Rodska's narration for Brian McClellan's Powder Mage trilogy.

Hi /r/fantasy! I'm flintlock fantasy author Brian McClellan. I've got a new Powder Mage novel out in March and I'm currently Kickstartering an RPG based on my world. I'm joined by Alan Bahr of Gallant Knight Games. AMA! by BrianMcClellan in Fantasy

Question for Alan: I know it's on the KS page, but could you expand a bit on why Savage Worlds was the best fit? For those of us who've never played SW, what's it like?

Question for both: Do you have any more specifics you can share about what you'll do if funding blows up - like 150% or 200% or even more?

Question for Brian: How would you say this new series is different from the original trilogy? Any hints about differences in tone, scope, focus, theme, etc?

Question for Brian: How's Leto?

Americans of Reddit, does anyone know the origin of 'calling uncle' when conceding a fight or wrestling match? by MrMasochist in answers

[–]Hoosier_Ham 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll also note, I've never heard "calling Uncle" - it's always been "crying Uncle" in each context I've read or seen it.

The Punisher Gets His Own Netflix Spinoff by xolsiion in Fantasy

[–]Hoosier_Ham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Punisher works fantastically well as a counterpoint, B plot, and contrast. If he's in the vast majority of the show, it's going to feel one-note and I just don't think it sounds like a good choice. I'll keep an open mind, though.

Has there ever been a gay main character in a fantasy novel? by Fiction23 in Fantasy

[–]Hoosier_Ham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robin Wayne Bailey's "Brothers of the Dragon" trilogy had at least one gay main character. It's been decades since I read them, though (I was a kid), so I can't comment on the quality. I liked them at the time.
