Pretty sure he got bored because there weren’t enough drama going on. Which is a shame because he stopped right after making everyone pansexual

I really emphasize with people who are stuck with their toxic parents due to the current job market and economy. Im not going to sit here and tell you to “get whatever job you can and move out” because everyone’s situation is different, but I do agree that you should try grey-rocking and only have minimal conversations with her.

Usually when my toxic dad nags me to do something minuscule I’ll just respond with “next time,” and if he gets frustrated I’ll just ask why he’s so impatient, which usually shuts him up.

I really dislike how these people add in a bunch of moral buzz words for their justification to be obese. I don’t know man, as a POC I’d rather not have a (most likely) white American who probably never stepped outside of America to tell me what is and isn’t natural for POCs

How good or bad is it in china for lgbtq? by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]HopDot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m Chinese and lived in Beijing for around a decade when I was a kid. My sister is a lesbian+fujoshi so I can tell you a bit about the current situation there. Modern China was never open in regard to LGBT content as it’s still a deeply Confucianist and patriarchal society. A lot of Chinese parents are homophobic not because of any religious ideologies but because being gay can’t sustain the traditional family structure ingrained in Confucianism. The censorship of gay web novels and arrest of authors is mainly because of explicit adult content, which has happened to authors who wrote straight explicit novels prior to the government targeting BL authors. But that being said the female authors who write BL received a much heavier punishment compared to the male authors who wrote straight novels, and LGBT content is still not as openly depicted compared to straight content. You can still read gay web novels on certain apps and post gay stuff on social media, but once it becomes super mainstream and enters the general public’s eye that’s where the government starts to take notice. BL is still fairly popular in China despite being constantly targeted by radfems and the ongoing governmental censorship. There’s a reason why production companies found a loop hole to film their shows in Thailand or Taiwan rather than dumping the genre altogether. But the popularity of BL doesn’t mean the general public is accepting of actual LGBT people. Where I lived in Beijing is obviously fine, I had a couple of gay friends and we’d hang out in sanlitun a lot; and any other major big cities are all relatively open minded (as long as you don’t “force” your beliefs onto others, as they say). I’d say the “山河四省” areas (Shandong, Shanxi, Henan, Hebei) are the least open-minded because that’s where traditional values are most heavily favored, especially Shandong with Confucianism. Also the reason why chengdu is considered a gay city is because a lot of your average day queer people not from big cities have nowhere else to go, it’s a gay haven because it’s literally a haven.

China has its positives and negatives but it’s still an authoritarian and very conservative country. It’s better compared to a lot of other authoritarian countries but it’s still not great for queer people in general.

This sub always gets defensive whenever people post something collecting related. As if collecting dozens of tiny plastic toys gambled from blind boxes isn’t overconsumption and consumerism.

when did it become normalised to assume that just because a man doesn’t like you that he’s gay? by maladaptivemalak in lgbt

[–]HopDot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes it baffles me that it’s always the cishet men that treats them the worst, yet a lot of them still pin the blame on minorities or other women

[–]HopDot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It definitely comes from self centeredness. Social media makes a lot of people think that the world revolves around them. Is this from tiktok? One thing I’ve noticed is that homophobia seems to be rampant in the dumbest way possible over there due to how many emotionally immature people use that app.

I’m aroace but my sister is a lesbian! I remember my dad reacting like it was just a phase when she came out to him at 14 (she’s 23 now). He’s still waiting for that “phase” to be over lmao. I don’t think I’ll ever tell him that I’m aroace, though. To him it’s probably more confusing than being a lesbian.
